  • Roald Dahl, renowned for his children's literature, had a notable aviation career. Born in 1916 in Wales, he joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1939, training in Nairobi. Dahl became a fighter pilot during World War II, flying the Hawker Hurricane. He survived a crash in the Libyan Desert in 1940, suffering severe injuries. Despite these setbacks, Dahl continued to serve, engaging in combat missions in Greece and the Middle East. His experiences as a pilot greatly influenced his writing, particularly in his autobiographical work "Going Solo," where he vividly recounts his wartime adventures and challenges.
