Paul Mauser's Rage sounds like a pretty sweet metal song about old guns.
hell, id name the band that!!!
Sabaton need to make an album just based on firearms development issues like that :D. including Crosier and the Lewis gun :p
Trouble is his ego also led to some very complicated polotics that started WW1.
Or like an old sailing ship feint.
I have to say Othias, May, and the gang at +C&Rsenal this was by far my favorite episode of the series. I love how you’ve set the stage up for the up and coming Mauser rifles and how you took Peter Paul Mauser from a name in a book and really made him human. I’m currently saving up to go to college with the hopes of becoming a history teacher. I have often said that history should be taught as the life experiences of men and women in the past instead of just names and dates. I believe that shows like yours, +TheGreatWar, +ForgottenWeapons, +BritishMuzzleloaders, +Capandball, etc... truly inspire people my age to really revolutionize the way we look at, learn about, and share history. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
I want to like this twice
Excellent Mr Hartle! Hope you can follow thru... having taught in the classroom i can say there's nothing more frustrating and meaningful.. Those who forget their history will have no future...
The great war is so amazing
I used to believe that the Ottoman Empire just bought generic leftover Mauser rifles. Man, I was wrong.
Thank you for informing me and many others about this interesting history!
The Minute of Mae is nice, but I'm still waiting on a reverse episode where Mae does all the talking and Othais the shooting :-)) Let's hope it will happen at some time :-))
Maybe that will become an April Fool’s day episode
2mm Kolibri April Fools episode? I'd watch that.
In another timeline, Othais is an outstanding History teacher.
If you want to watch someone that was a history teacher that looks at old style guns to modern guns, look up Mishaco. Dude is awesome with all the guns in his collection.
But that’s this timeline 🤔
He's an outstanding teacher in THIS timeline. Thank GOD for the internet!
I am from Turkey and we call every bolt action rifle, no matter what company or what nation made it, mavzer, Turkish pronunciation of Mauser and we have folk songs about the gun.
I would love a link to any of those songs!
watch?v=8auCPavt0qA this is one of the famous ones. It recounts the story of Mehmet Efe, leader of one of the irregular nationalist militia groups who fought against Greek occupation during 1919-1923. Also i remember there is a really famous song about Martini rifles. I am studying history and loving the historical parts of your videos. Keep up the good work :)
@@Candrsenal here is song featuring martini henry rifle which was the synonym for rifle before german influence :) ruclips.net/video/4QzxrGu0BS8/видео.html
@@TheNord06 i m a turkish mauser collecter and you made a happy men with your song ! form France. Tesekkur ederim beyefendi
and there is also:ruclips.net/video/BwsTp_-7Z4M/видео.html
the song is about black sea sailors who carried guns from british occupied istanbul to anatolia via black sea during the indepence war.You can hear the saying him" hotchkiss" clearly.
Sweet, a dedicated Ottoman rifle episode. If only they were more common and worth way less, I'd jump on an Ottoman 1887, Peabody, or even a Snider. Plus, I learned that the Ottoman Empiee made Snider breech-loading rifles out of Springfield percussion rifles that they bought from the Germans, who captured them from the French during the Franco-Prussian War, who bought them from the US, who also sold a bunch directly to the Ottoman Empire. And the Snider actions were either bought directly from Britain or locally made. And this was just an emergency rifle meant to make sure that every soldier had something to fight with.
Matthew Mason they were used extensively by the Zeybek regiments
25:20 very nice... Loved it... Turkish folk music in background...
I absolutely love the subtle background music you've included in the last few episodes. It's very soothing and adds a great atmosphere to the show.
Sorry, the background music SUX. It is annoying, distracting and contributes nothing to the content or delivery.
Watching from İstanbul thx you!
tony liudakis wake up your dream looser greek.
@@ThatGuy-a48 your race is even more disgusting
@@bigsmoke1787 truth be told I regret making that comment I was mad at something at the time. However you are an asshole still
YAY! C&Rsenal time!!!!!! Othais is gonna read me a bedtime story!
Yeah hahahahahahaha that was good to sleep by
That's what I thought 6 hours ago....
The history lessons of this series go FAR beyond just a history of WWI small arms.
Thank you SO much, and looking so forward to seeing a inter-war years series!
You and Mae get Two HUGE Thumbs up. I love the grin from the self proclaimed recon queen she complete a firing!
When are you going to do the AR15?
TAOFLEDERMAUS , 2057
TAOFLEDERMAUS That's WWII..duh!
So it wasn’t made in 1915?
Well he did the m16, although it a 1916.
I think he's still trying to find a Serbian contract AR15. LOL!
"...and the gun can't talk."
You're going to narrate a rifle in the future, aren't you.
Honestly one of the most interesting "second rate" weapon episodes to date. Cant wait to see the rest of the mauser family show up
"Hi, im Othais and welcome back to the all Mauser channel." Lol. But in all seriousness, i went to the National WW1 museum in Kansas City, MO. If you get a chance i suggest you go. They have two firearms you have not covered yet the Japanese Murata Model, 1886 (Meiji 20 type) and the German Sauer & Sohn pistol.
Cameron Boyce Classic artistry. Picasso had his blue period and his pink one. Othais had his .32 ACP, and now he has his mauser one.
The endless nonsensical commentary on the art pieces is present too. :p
I live in Kansas, and yes, that museum is world-class.
I hate to imagine just how long it took to make dies for that ammo... never heard of that cartridge until now.
Not perhaps as difficult as you may think. 9.5 is far better known in the US and Britain as a .375 caliber. There are a lot of .375 based cartridges still out there. I don't have case dimensions handy, but something might be close enough to modify.
@@ringding1000 hum, I actually try to remaque this cartridge and its not easy. 9.5 turkish is .374 caliber not .375. And very hard to find a mold for this bullet :)
@@Contribuablevener Well, bullet molds can be made for not much money. But, I would slug the barrel before doing anything. That way you will know what the true bore diameter is. And while I can't know the exact condition of your specific gun, pure lead cast bullets over light to moderate powder charges offer little over pressure risks to a suitable shooter gun. I wouldn't sweat .001"/.00254mm difference all that much.
@@ringding1000 hello, thank you for your answer. I already check my bore 66mm from bolt heat to twists and F 9.45 Z 9.74 I think bought a .375 mold for 38/55 caliber, drill grease place (sorry for my english, I m french) and add paper. For a bullet + paper at 9.70mm like original ammo (I have one). What do you think ?
@@Contribuablevener I think I would try it myself with light charges with dead soft lead bullets and inspect cases closely for pressure signs. I run my muzzle loading rifles with cloth patches at .005" to .010,(.127mm-.254mm), over bore size with no problem.
But you can also get a swaging die to reduce the diameter if the lead bullets also. If a custom mold isn't for you.
But it's your gun and your health. You must weigh the risk and judge for yourself.
Why the hell do you have to be so interesting. The amount of time Ive spent listening to you.
Brilliant work, as usual, Ive learned so much in an entertaining way. Thank you, Mae and Othais. The eye candy helps, too.
The transformation from the M1887 to the M1890 was pretty darn amazing.
Sing, oh muse, of the rage of Paul Mauser...
Boreas74 Swift ships, the wine dark sea,and rosy fingered dawn.
... that terrible wrath that was to bring so much misfortune to the Germans.
"War were declared"
Oh Othias.
I love the contemporary music! icing on the cake!
the background music is a nice touch. nice.
Once again the bar gets raised with another excellent, excellent episode congrats team
You can make a mini series about the Mauser brothers. Act one, grow up, design weapon, get contract. Act two, lose of brother, sell gun to Turks, get screwed by partners. Act three, revenge, make better gun, eventually get company back.
Finally! Cheers from the former ottoman occupied Albania
That was a tight grouping. Don't mess with Mae.
Sleep is for the uncommitted.
Today I bought rum just to celebrate the upcoming 4th, and have a nice drink for this.
amazing video. who knew story behind a rifle could be this fascinating.
This is my favorite gun channel. It always feels like coming home to sit down and watch O&M work that gun history. Question: How much black powder was in the original cases and did your homespun loads have the same amount of black powder in them?
When is Mae gonna break off and do Dino Tales? I imagine it's just going to be her playing with dinosaur toys like Wash in Firefly. "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
mausers are some of my favorite guns
I'm still drooling over that model 8 and Winchester self loader in the background
I sense the 1889 mauser on the way.
Abe he just announced it
There is a Hotchkiss 1914 next to Othias, just in frame...a clue to a future episode?
Dan Schneider yes, obviously
Dan Schneider the same as in the last episode where it was seen. The clue is that well see it in the next episode. In the same roll as in the twp before... Xd
Hagen I'm sorry, guess I am not as astute as you. Obviously
Hanf Peter Maybe they are going to hunt yetis with it then in a special episode
I've been waiting to see a episode on the peabody martini
I own 4 of these including a German Issued one (Soon to have a carbine). I need a Serbian Mauser Koka!
mae firing the fugly mosin is just precious.
The noise I just made when I saw this upload would make a pig blush.
You could do an hour on the history of the sardine can and I'd watch every minute of it. Keep up the good work. Thanks
Hi, watched this episode a few times know. I really love the "boring history lesson" othias telling us here... This time I wonder for the first time about the pronunciation of "Huber" as "hu-bee"... in Germany and esp. Bavaria where I live, we say it more like "hu-bear"... so know I have a new quest to find out how the guys name from the episode really was pronounced... craving for new episodes with new guns! Doesn't matter which one!
Beautiful rifle, also one of the best groups!
Great episode!! I didn't even recognize IV8888 but I recognized his fugly mosin, haha.
I would ask Mae “ are there any smokeless guns you would put behind this gun”
And I thought I was going to bed early tonight... I'm imagining Othias somewhere laughing
just playing pubg
A beautiful episode....engaging, who would have thought old black powder Mausers from the middle east would be so good to learn about.
It did actually injure Paul Mauser's pride so much that just before the 98 was ever commissioned, he made a test rifle and it blew up in his face which caused him to lose an eye which was was always salty about till the day he died.
Jun Kitami wasn’t that a semiautomatic rifle design that he was working on after the 98?
Eight-fifty-five p.m. About to go to bed. Othias! Tell me a bedtime story! Thank you!!
Excellent watch good sir. Supreme knowledge I may say. Thank you
The Mauser episode I was wishing for.
Woot! I’m on vacation and can watch the vid when it drops.
You need to wear a Helmet, in period, with a beard rescape to include a twisty mustachio, and a monocle, maybe a pipe like Sherlock.. Othias can dress up too, if he wants ..
Because of that joking with introducing her, I will just say, to her credit, she is a a good looking gal.
Outstanding as usual!
I needed this, right now
Othias really knows how to pay Mae a compliment doesn't he ?
WE NEED MORE OTTOMAN GUNS! (1893 please?)
That rifle is absolutely stunning. It really does not look - holy shit - 130 years old.
Keep it up, I really appreciate it
Woooooo! Nice one guys, thanks
Great history lesson! Thanks a lot! 👍💞
After seeing Mae take some recoil in earlier videos, it looks like she is shooting a .22 here.
Really cool Rifle, the most bang per grain of black powder per round, but there is still all that smoke.
Can’t wait to see the episode on the 1889!
Please do the 1890 ottoman!!!
really quality video
I wonder if Othias ever picks up a gun without letting out a big "UUUGHHGHGOOOFFF"
Abaddon GC
O0f
Abaddon GC you have seen any of the pistol videos, right?
Yes, I can see 2 future C&Rsenal channels in the future, the all 32 channel and the Mauser fan boy channel!
My old 1966 Martin Retting gun catalog has these for sale at $39.
This is indeed a very good black powder bolt action rifle.
Yeah Ottomans :3
You think you can't get more tacticool than the Mosin Obrez in the end? That's where you're wrong, pal! Check out InRangeTV and their "What would Mosin do?" Project!
I love when you do a review of a Belgium 1889 artillery carbine
Please do a review on it
With friends like Lowe, who needs enemies?
Wow, it's almost like the evolutionary predecessor of the L61R with that lower lug...
Excellent history (high) to gun details (low) ratio gg
Can't help but think that in a low gravity setting, the kropatschek based rifles, like other open top, might have cartridges flying from the lift, limiting it to single shot. In a retro space combat ( or rather low grav breathable planet) setting, an enclosed mechanism like a winchester might be superior.
Listening to a C&Rsenal episode when not fully woken up has its hazards.
Got a question though: does the rifle get clogged more easily because of the smaller caliber ?
canicheenrage Fun fact, the 71/84 is a controlled feed. What do I mean? The lifter encircles the base of the case enough that it CAN'T fall out, and if loaded with proper bullets, the cartridge overall length is long enough that the tip of the bullet is within the receiver, when the cartridge is in the lifter. You can cycle a 71/84 upside down just fine. The ONLY way the cartridge can get out of the lifter is forward, which is the direction you want it to go.
Mae firing That legendary Fugly Mosin created by Eric Iraqvetran8888 makes a good after credit scene it beats the MCU films hands down
Turkish mauser Was used in Çanakkale, Ankara was imported 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
yes in the name of our strength of our rifle ♥♥♥♥
25:16 yemen folk song
Atila Oyunda kral adamsın vesselam

This episode arrived at an insanely coincidental time. I'm listening to a lecture series on the Ottoman Empire and yesterday it covered Sultan Abdul Hamid II's effort to modernize the empire. The lecture introduced me to Colmar von der Goltz and his efforts (along with many other German and European officers) to help modernize the Ottoman army. The way the Germans hock that rifle at the Ottomans is very indicative of Germany's benign contempt for the failing Ottoman Empire. Sadly, it looks like those Ottoman rifles were outclassed real soon.
Also, regarding finances of the Ottoman Empire, they had defaulted on their international debt in 1875, so I'm pretty certain that no one was gonna loan them money while they were still sorting out that mess. By world war I, that debt was eating up 30% of the Ottoman budget.
Glad it laid in nicely!
27:14 that's a tight group, nice !
It's like the rifle didn't even recoil from the looks of it. Holy crap.
8:10 That reminds me of the advice given to Hiram Maxim about helping the Europeans kill each other...
35:17 He's still part owner, and thus part of the company's profit.
Also, I notice the battle sight blade shown in May's segment is marked for 300, not sure it that's Meters or Yards, but there it is. I'd wager a guess that the express leaf is marked for 400, and the beginning of the ladder is 500 and up.
correct
45:24 it’s the “giving rifle….”
Oh comeon I have clinicals at 6 you monsters. I know what im watching on break tomorrow
I have only one tiny issue, what's with the music in the background? Other than that, great episode guys, thank you!
I hope you're taking note from the Mauser's and not letting stock of the patented plastic pokie get spread around!
You should write a book about Peter Paul's Rage.
I am not sure, but I doubt we had any good rifles that were proper for the needs of an empire to adopt as standard issue for a foreign nation at that particular moment. I feel like it was mainly our handguns and a few automatic or semiautomatic fire arms that we had anything worthy of using. I mean, around that time they just then realized bolt actions were the way to go, and were most suited for a manually operated weapon best suited to endure whatever the military would experience in war. This was all in a relatively short amount of time too. To me that just feels like there is no way in hell for companies and any inventors to have gotten proficient and knowledgeable enough in what makes a good bolt action yet. To me it feels like they were like halfway there (They were getting there), and only certain companies and individuals that might've known enough to what makes a bolt action, and what type of things work best. I think most of the companies and inventors by that point were catering to a market that was not into the bolt actions, too. I surmise it was literally the semi-automatic rifles and lever action rifles was where you might find a good place to adopt, or begin working with the developer to improve and modify their weapon where it finally becomes "perfect." ("perfect" being a completely subjective term. "Perfect" is really referring to what kind of product you might get as a finished result depending on who's the potential buyer willing to spend enough cash and time on it, and while whatever crap along the way that could come a long and act like a wrench thrown into the cog during the process.)
This is really nice to have with the sleepless night caused by my pneumonia.
oof. Feel better
The IV8888 Fugly Mosin makes an appearance!
Back on the 1 1/2 hour lee metford/enfield episode did Mae only fire the enfield model? I would think the metford would be a rival for best blackpowder rifle.
The song in the background while Mae was shooting was pretty nice any idea what is the name of the song
Germany adopts gewher 1888, ludveg buys out mauser: Germany and ludveg: Why do I hear combat music?
Ludwig Loewe: "hey Isidore! How you tie this tie? Ah, hell, close enough."
"You figured out a way to screw this mauser guy yet?"
So Mae, it's WWI, will you take an electric-powered Gatling Gun into combat? Or a Fokker-Leimberger 12-barrel rifle-caliber rotary gun?
Great video. What about a Swiss K1911 vid? Thanks
