I just made them and they were amazing! I wasn't sure how they would come out so I halved your recipe and in case anyone here was wondering it's
3 cups of all purpose flour
    1/2 tbsp of salt
    1/2 tbsp of baking powder
    1/2 cup of shortening
    1 cup of hot water
Thank you so much for the recipe and video! I hope you make more videos 😊

I am going to make these today - they look DELICIOUS! I tried making tortillas using another recipe on YT but they came out hard (softened once heated but still...). I am sure that Christine's tip to use VERY hot water is the key to soft tortillas because that is how I make very soft cakes - I use BOILING water. Works like a charm every time. ❤ A FEW HOURS LATER UPDATE: I just finished making them and my Dad and I had one each. These tortillas came out P-E-R-F-E-C-T-L-Y - so soft we thought we were eating pillows from heaven. So glad I found this recipe! Thank you so much! ❤❤❤

Such a great video. There's no substitute for experience - and you can tell she could do this in her sleep. She gives such sage advice for anyone in the kitchen - "it doesn't have to be perfect - you're going to eat it!" Love her attitude. Lucky family of 6 to have this woman in charge of the kitchen. Thank you for posting this great video!

Are you saying that one kind of person is inherently better than another kind of person at a given thing? How are we supposed to feel about that statement, Selina?

    • @duke08222008
      @duke08222008 5 лет назад +3

@@adamchurvis1Albiet you may may have pointed out a person"s racial assumption of who can make food better than the other but I'm willing to bet that all your favorite restaurants aren't being cooked from the racial derivative of the style food being made. At the same time though, she's not wrong in her statement either. I can't tell you how many times I've yelped mexican restaurants only to see and taste that a highly americanized (recipes from white people) tex-mex or mexican food. You can literally taste and see the non-authenticity and/or bland food more so because that's the culture one has been brought up on. It would be like you saying, "ex.....Finally someone of non-color making a video on how-to Ambrosia Salad with extra sour cream" and you could relate because you grew up eating and you might get a lot shit for saying that but you wouldn't be wrong in your statement. Now, in no way am I saying that only Mexicans are better at making tortillas than anybody else but when you can literally compare this to that of what you can heavily compare to and remember. Especially down to the part where she says use your time wisely and chopped up some potatoes. LOL.

@UC9-BlXSEFlP5aQlZ47_k_EQ Every single comment in your post is either based on a fallacy or is rendered moot because it does not apply to the statement I made, nor does it apply to the overall premise. If you'd like to learn the reasons why then let me know and I'll take the time to deconstruct it for you, but only if you are receptive to learning and not in this just to argue back and forth. I will be teaching you, not arguing with you, because you are not using logic and reason to make your argument. You must first learn how to not base your arguments on fallacies. Are you willing to learn?

@@duke08222008 Now, did I take offense, or did I offer to fully engage you on an entirely intellectual basis? Did I appear to be afraid of what you said, or did I appear to enthusiastically offer to help you to not make a complete fool of yourself conversing with people who understand what a fallacious argument is? And then... what did YOU do?

Thank you!! I started making tortillas at the age of 7 I learned to make them like my Mom soft and wonderful. In 2005 My Mother passed away and I stop making the tortillas. I tried to make them two weeks ago and the dough turned out terrible. I couldn’t believe that, after years of making them I couldn’t make them. I saw a lot of videos but, there recipes were so different then mine. Then I saw yours and I said, thank you God that’s the perfect one. You make them just like Mom. Thank you for taking the time to put out your video. Hav a wonderful day. Yes you are right the hot water makes all the difference.

thanks for this...I'm Turkish and have a texmex husband. I always seek to impress him and the first time I made tortillas he liked them, or at least he said he did lol, then when my sister in law visited us I made them again to impress here and the first thing out of her mouth was that they where disgusting and she would not eat them, and her husband also did not like them. I was so sad not having to have impressed them. Now next time, I will try this and show off again and let see if it meets her moma's standards. They use some sort of Mexican flour mixture that's already prepared, so I like that this is made from scratch. Keep teaching me (-:

I hoped you next batch impressed your sister-in-law. Next time you visit her ask her to make you a Turkish dish and see how she good she does.
I was raised in California and was lucky to eat at the homes of a lot of Mexican friends. I love tortillas, the first 12 or 13 batches I made could be rated from yuck- to- passable.
After that they started to get better and I do a pretty good job now. It is not just a recipe it is a "knack" at that comes with making them.

Don’t worry about impressing. If they don’t like your tortillas they don’t need to say it. Instead, they should have offered to give you advice on how to make them better!! The flour you add water to, are not authentic. At least, u put forth effort and that is all that matters! Keep practicing and you will master the technique. Don’t give up. It takes lots of practice.

No need to refrigerate it. It can stay out for a couple of days....I've even let the masa get a tad sour and it's still good but it will be stickier so just add more flour. It you do refrigerate it make sure you take the masa out to get to room temp before rolling it out or else you will have a harder time.

Christine, i can not thank you enough for this video. I’ve been coming back to it for the past 2 years when ever i feel the urge to make special homemade flour tortillas for the family and they come out perfect with your recipe and instructions every time. Your video feels like home, reminds me of my family and the authentic flavor that comes with it. Gracias a dios for you, you are amazing. 🤍🤍🤍

I just wanted to let you know for the last past year and a half i have been watching this video of you making tortillas, and now I've become a regular maker :-). I put a little twist to your recipe, and put olive oil in place of shortening, and it comes out just as good. thanks again!

If you're asking about the olive oil, yes I did. It comes out just as good, and it makes me feel a tiny bit better of myself just because its not manteca lol :)

Christine has the magic touch, and technique. You can tell that she inherited it from her dear mother. Keep up the good work. You make it look like fun. I will follow her recipe completely. I loved it. Just place a little diffusion on the window behind her to knock down the brightness that is blasting her right side when she backs up. Hope to view your other dishes. Thank you!!

I have watched so many tortilla recipes and you were the only one who explained the need for very hot water , so I used your recipe and I had perfect tortillas, well they were different shapes but the touch and taste was perfect . Thank you and bless you.
