Always kind of wished I could give Gene a spot to raise dogs in one of my settlements...
Spacedroner seriously
Spacedroner same
I know make a business
The Castle would be perfect! No raiders! Lots of raising space!
Fanfiction Writer shut up giving us all falls hope but your Right
I love Gene. He's the most wholesome character in the game
Jeffrey Yaw yep
its to bad we cant give him caps just to be kind and let him keep the dog
i killed him.
I personally think he's the most likable character in the game.
i got diffrent feelings about him. I hate him beacuse of the : oooh i sell dogs but oooooh i dont want to ooooooh. Pretty nice guy tho
Would be cool if you could Pay Gene to live in a settlement and raise dogs for guard duty or hunting.
TotallyCluelessGamer thats actually a good idea, i swear the fans are smarter than Bethesda
That is a brilliant idea. I’d download that mod.
So much wasted potential. Great idea!
Actually he is a reference to a old woman on fallout new Vegas, Its a Rex companion quest
@@DanaBanana94 it's a reference to fallout new Vegas
The sandwich argument is a reference to the real life case in Massachusetts, giving a legal definition of a sandwich. The verdict is anything between at least two pieces of bread.
It was also in new vegas
@@machinegarden Could you explain? I am currently doing another play through just for Easter eggs and unique weapons/apparel and would love to find it, as I never have.
Duncan Campbell so would a taco count. Are biscuits sandwiches. Put stuff in the middle of a roll.
@Tejesh Patel but a hot dog bun is one piece of bread, not two separate pieces
@@idrathergotohell5215 well sometimes the bread splits then it is a sandwich
I remember getting the dog from Gene, and stopped what I was going to make sure she got to the settlement, and then made a couple of doghouses for her and dogmeat. It's a shame we couldn't recruit Gene into a settlement :(
That sounds surprisingly wholesome
Edit: Spell check didn't catch that...
I took the dog and killed him then ate him in front of the dog

It's sad when some of the nicest and best people in the game are just random encounters that 90% of people miss. And that some of the saddest plots are also just random encounters.
i felt really sorry for the runaway girl, who was dropped out from his parents before the bombs fell.must be really fucked up if the last thing you experience with your parents be4 you die is a fight.you'll find her remains and her holotape in the rangers shack a little bit south of sanctuary hills.even if it's just a video game, it's a pretty sad story that somehow doesn't leave you untouched.
Reminds me of Uncle Leo from Fallout 3. Heartwarming guy, but encountered randomly and with no follow-up.
@@duczman76 I’m sorry dude but you’re literally the definition of an unreliable narrator lmao you start off saying “the runaway girl” and then immediately a run on sentence later you refer to them as a boy. Well which is it??
@@kazuhiramikami8620 i don't give a fuck on your opinion.
@@duczman76 hmm I figured you’d say something along those lines but eh it’s just my opinion bro. Don’t take it too wrong lol
anyone else get really fucking sad when the guy sold his dog
you could hear the sadness in his voice
LaughGazz 2.0 I felt like a terrible person I wanted to give it back, give him money and send him to my settlement so he could raise dogs there and keep them
@@branpuff4218 wish there was a option to have him join one of the settlement the player is controlling, that would be realy nice if we could maybe put up some lab and have a scientest settler to so they two could work on breeding dogs that have the least bad gens and mutated dna from raidiation so we would end up with healty dogs. it defenitly looks like someone been doing that with cats considering we dont find any mutated cats, all of them look like completly normal cats we find in real life.
So, funnily enough, I did have an encounter with the couple and the synth. However, once I failed the persuasion speechcheck, a yao guai just suddenly ran up and murdered everyone.
Yukii Oto at least it wasn't a deathclaw
Yao Guai judgment is the only true judgment
Yao Guai:YEET!

@@Arvel_The_Swit while talking to the cult at the ampitheater, a vertibird crahed on the guy and killed everyone
You can buy a dog for the same price as MacCready 😂
Xenomorphing no because if you get him to like you you get your money back so he's pretty much free
Anne whoosh
Because he’s a dog
@@PretzlcoatlTheFirst Personality wise, he's more of a cat... prickly to strangers, tolerances you - until you prove yourself useful to him, small, and easily offended.
Danse is your dog, loyal, protective, doesn't know what to do with himself when you're gone, big, cute, and a bit dim.
Lol
It's that encounter with father and daughter made me wish there was a mod that would let the player direct them to one of your settlements, so they could have a roof over their heads.I'm not a "feely" person, but it does pull my heart string a little bit, maybe because I have kids too.
13:08 "Jesus, They're dead...." "and you're next..." LMAO
Wait what
Next video: is it moral to buy Gene's dog?
Paladin Danse shut up you synth.
Nyarlathotep he’s a synth but he’s also kawaii so chill
I always feel horrible about buying the dog in that encounter.
IT'S SO SAD
Yes, as it allows him to feed himself and stay afloat. If he didn't have the money, he wouldn't be able to take care of the dogs he loves. Not to mention, he loves being able to raise a new puppy after selling one of his dogs. I think the true question is; are Gene's dogs as attached to him as he is to them, and is it fair for Gene to sell the dog, when it has no say?
Paladin Danse f’real
The last one about daddy and his girl... made me tear up somehow... :'( I just feel so much empathy for people who genuinly care about one another and stick together even if the world is going down hill... I always was a cry baby but espacialy with family stories like this :'(
these random encounters are one of the biggest examples of how fallout 4 does have some really good role playing elements in it (contrary to what people seem to think) I mean look at the Jules encounter, look at all the different ways you can handle that situation. it's pretty cool
Agreed. I see that Bethesda did put a good job over the game, but they applied the good parts in easter eggs, instead on the standard path.
Oh, and it is interessting that FO4 took the part that everyone liked in the previous games: you can choose your approach in a situation. Or you go guns blazing, or you go persuading or you go sneaky until the end.
Also Bugthesda did a pretty good job removing skill points, but don't take MY word for it, go watch Many A True Nerd's video
It's a shame you can't get the guy and his daughter to join one of your settlements.
It's too bad that Bethesda never included an option to allow encountered settlers and good people to be invited to settlements. I mean you can invite Shepherd but it would be a nice feature to give others a home too.
Jack Barnes the quests that the mechanist sends you to stop the robots, if you are quick enough and save the settlers they are attacking you can send them to your settlements
There are occasional spawns of random settlers which you can send to settlements. Sometimes they are fighting something, and if you intervene, there is an option to send them to a settlement.
wow I've played a lot of Fallout 4 and I don't think I've come across those
Theres actrually an encounter even without the Mechanist DLC
I got it on top of the Dam North of Sunshine Tidy Coop where 3 settlers where being attacked by raiders and after killing the raiders and speaking to the settlers they asked to join my settlement
Yes you can. I meet settlers all the time that I can save and send to a settlement. But that might be a product of mod enhancing the spawns. (WOTC)
Someone should make a mod that allows you to make a mirlurke sandwich.
Or make bread, period
I have run into gene so many times and I had like 4 dogs and when I found gene to get my fifth one a deathclaw showed up and ripped him and my fifth dog to shreds
Rhys Jackson That is so tragic, the embodiment of savagery killing one of the last good folk in the wasteland
Zork K8ng I even tried re loading and I got the death claw one shot and when I went to shoot it cuz I had no AP and gene ran in front of me and took the bullet and he dropped dead and then the dog came back to kill me so I put it down and re loaded and gene just kept dying so I said fuck it killed the deathclaw and buried gene at sea
Rhys Jackson Wow...
Why'd you give him a vikings burial tho
Rhys Jackson... XD HAH. But thats tragic.
"And now its your turn"
"Wait what?"
I dont know why but that made me laugh
I remember meeting Clinton and Charlie just east of Concord, and I felt so bad for them that after several attempts, I reverse-pickpocketed my upgraded 10mm pistol and a few handfulls of 10mm ammo onto Clinton, and wished them the best of luck, and went on my way.
Thats so nice of you!
i need to do that with a minigun and a rifle....
Bethesda, why can't I just tell them to live in one of my many settlements
I was sorta tempted to do that too. :(
i like how in the encounter with the two dues arguing about the sandwiches you find a bread box in the duffel bag
i really wish you could bring the no hostile people like Clint and his daughter to be settlers to help them or other settlers in these encounters
One thing about the escaped synth, probably a minor detail.
But I was under the impression that until they meet with the railroad they don't have names, only designations.
So why is it that Jules is Jules?
Warden Tauros maybe they asked what his name was so he came up with one
(MINOR SPOILER ALERT) Typically, the ones that don't have names are the ones like H2-22, who was brought directly from the Institute. Like, X and Patriot brought them through the maintenance tunnel. Maybe Jules was already on a data mission for the Institute, like Mayor MacDonough, and decided to defect after catching wind of the operations at Bunker Hill.
tekkara It states there's a spoiler. Sorry you read ahead anyways my dude.
tekkara Fair. The response was @'d to me, tho, not the OP. And he didn't spoil that much. Like, at all. Don't worry too much about it.
tekkara so u just dound diamond city?
I wish they'd let us have Gene as a settler so he can live with his dogs
"I'm Garrus Vakarian and this is my favorite synth in the wasteland!"
I feel these random encounters are examples of how Beth really missed an opportunity. They could have made these random encounters a source for recruiting named settlers. I mean who walks up on a girl and her father camping by the river in the wasteland, and doesn't mention that they have a safe place that the duo might enjoy living at? No... the sole survivor just walks away, and says sorry bout your life... Hope you survive.
Exactly. And in exchange you have boring zombies just called "Settlers" walking around with the same 3-4 lines of text. Why would they waste such potential?
True that
Or expanded on Art vs Art. Why is he important enough to justify replacing with a duplicate?

You get the old man and the child are near Sanctuary as well. There is a hill near Sanctuary where you can find them.
Most of these encounters happen at various locations. Note the campfire? You'll see those all over the CW. Not all of them have a random encounter attached to them. But, it'll give you a good idea of what to look for if you're trying to find random encounters. I myself have found the father/daughter RE behind Concord and someplace else. The dog salesman Gene can be found all over the place. As he wanders. I have run into him once at diamond City and once between Abernathy Farms and Good Tidings.
I got them yesterday at that dam structure near Oberland Station and that radio tower.
It's a reference to cormac mccarthy's the road.
Gerbil13 ha! Thank you. I'm a little slow on some of the references. Makes more sense now. Most of FO 1 and FO2's random encounters were movie/book references (whale that appeared to have fallen from a great height, the Tardis, and of course, Monty Python, etc).
The fact that you followed Jules makes me so happy. That's exactly what I was hoping you'd do!
Anyone else think Fred's face looks like Chuckie from Child's Play?
when I fist came to his area I thought he was a Ghoul.
Fallaria Rising looks like that one dude from that one punch man anime
When I encounter Gene I always feel bad for the guy. I know what it's like to raise animals for a living. It can be hard to part with them. Then again some people can do it easily.
None of the good ones easily part with them. Or if they do part easily it's because they sell them young. Young enough they don't have any attachments
Sad thing is, there is a followup event with Clint and Charlie. If you meet them once, there is a chance you can come across a scene in which they are dead on the ground and a feral ghoul is there that attacks you. Sad really.
bl1ndrag3 the mother is a ghoul 😂
what? a dead child in a Bethesda game? never
I kept stopping and reloading because I thought I did something wrong. These two seem like perfect people to send to one of my settlements.
I have to listen to Marcy bitch at me all day, but can't save a tired old man and little girl? C'mon Bethesda.
Charlie can't die, child NPCs can't die in any bethesda game.
Gene looks like the Wolverine
Garrus - "Do you wanna buy a dog?"
Jack - "Yeah, sure. what breed is it?"
Garrus - "a German Shepherd"
Shepherd - "WOOF WOOF! we'll bang, ja... i should be going."
I feel like there should be an option to help Jules the escaped synth make it to Bunker Hill. You know, take him on as a temporary companion like you could in the first 2 Fallout games, until he arrives at Bunker Hill.
You can help him by putting him out of his misery.
I like the fact that you do the loose lore that I used to do that I don't have time to do anymore and because I watch you I can bookmark stuff and not have to spend hours and hours and hours having to look for these obscure things in the game that you and I enjoy because their nuances within the game more or less thank you for spending all the time that you spend
Gene makes me cry lol
Gene can be encountered anywhere in the commonwealth. The first time I met him was at the Red Rocket settlement south of Sanctuary Hills.
The pain he shows as he sold you his dog got me. nice voice acting.
I met him on the route to Kellogg
18:17
I found this guy in a house standing on top of a couch, I came back 3 mins later and he was dead. Turned around and I found his killer, A legendary deathclaw
13:13 had me dying😂
Awww I feel bad for the first guy!
I understand him completely!
It’s like selling your most sedimentary possession. You don’t want your good ol’ 3DS being used for a 1000 ft drop video do you?
i wish for gene you could give him the caps but let him keep the dog
A dabing pickal rick
Gene makes me sad for some reason because he is so genuine
if I could do anything about Gene, Clint and Charlie, I'd send Clint and Charlie to a settlement, find Gene, tell him about them both, and ask for him to move to the same settlement so Charlie has access to all the little doggos and Clint knows that his daughter is in good hands.
Everytime I hear the dialoge of him actually selling the dog it makes me teary
Hey Oxhorn. Just south of the Drumline Diner is a blue house. Next to the railroad. It too is a popular random encounter spot.
That one either has a maximum number of encounters, or is level capped. After a certain point people stop showing up there. At least in my playthroughs.
I love how clearly you talk and explain things it's significantly better than other youtubers
I got the art vs art I saved art
Abe Lincoln You saved Art but not Art!?! You monster
I killed art and art couldnt tell who was a synth therefore they both died.
the synth is the one kneeling on the ground
you saved art but killed art? i saved art and killed art
Abe Lincoln I don't know how but i saved the real art and somehow angered him to the point where he shoots me everytime i see him
The most random of encounters documented by our friendly neighborhood ox, this is one of my favorite series' because it shows the true randomness and sheer amount of things in fo4, such an amazing game
It's a shame we can't have the option to make Jules gene Clint Charlie and heck the gassy guy into settlers
That power armor charge thing makes me laugh so hard, I'm disappointed that I never used it
Um something sad happened in mine with gene....i bought his dog and he walked into the sea :/ has this happened to anyone else?
the life glitcher Wow. I guess he was really upset about selling you his dog...
that made me laugh so hard
XD yay sub for more bad jokes XD nah jk
You sure it's Gene and not Jack? Bonus points if you get that reference.
Like that old lady in GTA SA
Thanks a ton for making all of these. Really makes me appreciate Fallout 4 a bit more especially. I watch them at 2x speed, otherwise quite a bit slow.
I own a Rottweiler and I really want that junkyard dog
Something about the galling laser in FO4 makes it the most badass version. I'm always happy to see you use it. You ever tried Skibbida's galling guns mod? He added some past favorites and created some new ones. He made a couple heavy machine guns too, the WH-Mk. 19 Shrike, and the larger WH-Mk. 22, but that one doesn't have a sweet name, even though I call it the Condor. Also a properly amazing heavy guns mod. Oldie but a goodie.
You keep failing your persuasion checks
tboyrunner115 it's mainly because his charisma is low since he's doing these at low levels. Some get locked out after a certain level
Also, love the Ruby icon
I am so glad that Bethesda drew from real Boston talent for this game! The accents are authentic. If you look close at the subtitles for 'gassy man' they read 'upchuck' but the voice actor actually says, "Bahf". Priceless!
Gene should be recruited into a settlement as a merchant, or just give him a hug
I've actually found minutemen at random encounter spots, an occasionally a vertibird will show up (not sure if that constitutes as a random encounter tho), although ive never seen the railroad show up
Clint and his daughter charlie, i had this random encounter, i went to kill some stuff nearby and when i ran past the hotspot again, they had both been killed by feral ghouls.
Oxigen Waste nooooo!
Gene is so wholesome; one of my favourite characters in the game
I actually saw gene in my sanctuary settlement and bought his dog but I felt bad after
I ran into the gassy guy in Concord and when he told his story Longneck Lukowski's place appeared on my map. I also ran into a random synth in an Institute jumpsuit walking along the tracks near Fort Hagen. If I remember right he has no dialog options and just says "I can't talk now, I need to get to Bunker Hill." I've played a lot of Fallout 4 and I've seen both of these encounters only once. Gene the dog guy I usually run into just West of Sanctuary Hills on a little island, early in the game.
I’ve actually stumbled upon the “Art vs Art” random encounter, I came upon it on the docks opposite of The Caslte behind one of the shipping crates it was weird for me since I almost couldn’t tell which was which 😂
You know i love random encounters, theres like so much more story and such a deeper story when you are not told a story. Drawing your own conclusions or making up a story for these characters in your head is always the most fun leaving you wanting more. Somehow bethesdas best stories are no stories at all!
Thank you Ox!
I encountered the syth incident with fred after this video.
Thanks you got me prepared. I almost died but I survived!
6:50 I found those two in a random house in the middle of no where having that exact same conversation
“We never find any hostile BOS”
Well i was wandering around and bunch of hostile BOS Soldiers attacked me for no reason
I love how Preston saunters by and gives you a sideways glare when you let the synth get killed.
i actually met gene in a train car even had a tent and cap stash he was sleeping so i stole his stuff then he woke up and started trying to sell me his dog i didnt want the dog i let him keep it
Poor doggo what if he doesn't have enough caps to feed the big ones because he never seems to really want to sell them?
I’ve found him passing by Red Rocket to Sanctuary so many times.
These series give me life and quench my thirst for the wasteland. Can't wait till November!
Early on in the game, you can sometimes find the guy having stomach trouble, sitting at a cooking station in the empty parking lot near the museum where you meet Preston & Co. After you have your conversation with him, he _does_ give you a can of Potted Meat, and then your Pip-Boy map is updated with Longneck Lukowski's location. Also, be careful with that random encounter hotspot at early levels. There's a chance that you'll find a random-ass Yao Guai there, just milling around the place instead.
Lol that part where you can kill jule's friends then he said your turn now thats evil
The Gene encounter actually happened at my settlement randomly, I was just setting up my starlight drive in settlement and he just walked up to me, I was very confused.
The Jules one is the same with the art one the unarmed one is the synth
For Art vs. Art, the best way to tell which one is a synth, is to go into V.A.T.S. and look at their resistances. Synth Art sometimes has a higher armor rating (but, not always!). But that's not what you're looking for. Look for the electrical resistance. Synth Art will always have a resistance to electricity!
Or have good Charisma ;)
I gunned down both and used my cannibal perk to the finest
One time, there was a random encounter of a Damn Raider Death Squad. One lesson i learned that day is , don't underestimate Raiders
You can find about 20 cannonballs out back of fort strong, just so you all know
gene was the first random encounter i had, and i was so desperate to get that dog! she and dogmeat hangout in front of my house and i've started calling her angel! they are a great team for defense! ♥
Once a group of raiders that tried to rob me and they didn't make it out alive
20:40 me " that's so so sad "
also me " Kill the old guy"
20:15 This was the moment I shot a mini-nuke.
So ive been binging these old videos of yours recently. I remember playing FO4 around 2016-2017 and thinking it was a really good game, but not a very good Fallout. Watching these videos makes me appreciate it a lot more and I kinda miss the game. I don't have a copy of it anymore but I'm thinking about hitting my local used game store and grabbing a copy so I can replay it.
I wish u could give Clint some weapons for him to use, many of us have weapons we don't use often or don't use at all
May have seen the Clint and Charlie encounter before, but man do I end up tearing up every time, wanting to do something for them.
I got a dog from gene but a legendary alpha deathclaw attacked my settlement and lets just say he didn't make it :(
"And now it's your turn" made me laugh so hard
I found an eyebot pod in the glowing sea
Zayne Pruett Me too!! Only place I’ve found it.
I came across a similar situation where dude thought Jules was a synth but he wasn’t. I saved him and then followed him to see where he would go. After three or four minutes of shadowing this fellow he ran into the synth version of himself!! A small dialogue ensued with the synth saying he was there to replace him. There was a scuffle and I don’t actually recall who came out on top. Interesting to see a version of this interaction where Jules is already a synth.
Great videos by the way, I find myself watching your videos whenever I need info about Fallout four.
Jesus.. Gene reacting to his dog, and his god being yours now is SO sad, holy crap.
Well you said god so I would be sad if I lost a god.
games and glory hey his dog is god
@@jakebruin9268 Nice new vegas reference
I remember starting up a new game and was cleaning out Sanctuary and then happen to look over at the table behind the house close to the Workshop and seeing Moss and Micky having their conversation. I was so damn confuse.
Love that you followed that guy
7:53 "Here you can find a wild mongrel and a dead scorpion" punts wild mongrel
I love your channel! Fallout 4 is my favorite game. Keep to create Fallout 4 content!!!
The first encounter was so touching... Bethesda does emotions right for once.
Man I love these vids, it's 4.30am now and I started watching at 7.02 yesterday... you got your self a subscriber. Good job man.
I didn't notice this was really a hotspot of sorts until I watched this video, but when going to fort hagen during the mission to find kellog you may come across a stunted yao guai which actually turns out to be a hotspot. I don't know why but as default the stunted yao guai always spawns as the first encounter at that hotspot making it very unnoticeable, but by discovering a location then coming back you will notice another new encounter to take place where you found the stunted yao guai (which by the way is a great way to refresh a hotspot without quicksaving assuming you have new places to 'discover' nearby)
Hey oxhorn I found gene righ outside both trinity tower and diamond city and once found him a short walk away from sanctuary this guy is ether real common or I'm lucky
Ps I always feel bad for the guy and wish I could tell him to live in sanctuary
The gassy guy is found literally almost every where, I once encountered him 3 times within 2 hours of wondering about and a 4th time where he died cus of rads mid conversation cus he was in the glowing sea
well all random encouters can spawn in different location and with gene, he has multiple random encounters that can take place in the same game, and each time you encouter him he can sell you a dog so that makes him more common
why was he in the glowing sea tho
Well he was dumb
Gene and Mac are the two most wholesome people in the whole Commonwealth.
hey oxhorn got a question for ya and would like to hear a your thoughts or others from comments. here it is, my friend and i were playing fallout 3 and got on the subject of ghouls. my friend said he would rather kill a ghoul before they go feral even if there a good person or not just kill the ghoul before they go feral so they don't suffer. me i told him that's messed up and the killing a feral was the only thing since you're freeing them in a way since there are ghoul characters that are fine i feel killing them is just murder not mercy. what are your thought's everyone?
Blue-SoulRain I think if they're are fine then leave them be but if they are turning feral it's best to give them mercy. they mostly go feral if left alone
i depend's on the situation, if it is a normal ghoul and its attacking me then yeah, i would shoot the shit out of it, but if its like the vault-tech rep from fallout 4 ( which is my favorite person in the whole game and really want a mod that make's him a companion) then no, i would not kill them, but with feral ghouls i would try to capture them, sure keeping them in a cage is a bit inhumane but it's better then killing them, i know there would be no way to make them normal but again it's better than just slaughtering them like the brotherhood doe's,as we learn in a brotherhood quest, feral ghouls know when there not going to win, when the brotherhood first take Boston airport, they say that at first the ghouls run at them and try to kill them but then turn and run, so there not just mindless ''zombies'' they are still fairly sentient.
like the other two said it is based on the situation. take Jamaica plains for example your forced to kill all the ghouls because they never run away. I have had on occasions had some run away in different locations. like at the slog if the ghouls are like them I leave them alone.
i wish you could find a fraction or group of ghouls that try to help feral's. that would be cool, and after meeting them you get a gun that knock's feral's or at least new dialog option's
gizmoandback i love your content
