This is part 2 of our Korea-Japan relations series. You can watch Part 1 of the series, "What the Japanese think of Korea" here: ruclips.net/video/KNIStfey8oU/видео.html We make these videos to bring together different perspectives and encourage meaningful debate and discussion on difficult issues. But we understand that it's hard to get a large sample size for street interviews so we want to invite you to share your opinions - just make a video of yourself and upload it to RUclips with the title, "Can Korea and Japan Be Friends? #AsianBossOpinions.” You don’t need to be Asian or live in Asia. We will feature the best responses in one of our future videos. Thanks for watching and be respectful to our interviewees and your fellow commenters.
Again, I see that you've made (hopefully unintentional) bad translations (and misinformation), especially when interviewing the 82 year old man. 1. The interviewer said "the soldiers did in Vietnam War" no mention of "comfort women" since comfort women weren't used by Koreans in the Vietnam war. (Though there were rapes by individual soldiers, no systematic luring/forcing women into sex slavery like Japan did.) 2. the old man said as far as he's aware, he didn't hear that there was much fuss caused by the Korean army, not the tone of denial in the subtitles. (Though he seems to be obviously uninformed about the matter, since he is very old. Most youth would know this from schooling.) 3. Although there were many atrocities caused by the Korean Army during the Vietnam war, it shouldn't really be a comparison. The Korean army during the conflict in Vietnam were not encouraged to do any harm to the Vietnamese by the government, whereas the Korean-Japanese relations are mostly sour due to the systematic atrocities imposed by the Japanese Imperial government, whether it be the "Comfort women" (systematic sex slavery), or exploitation of the Korean people/resources, Unit 731 etc. Korean Atrocities in Vietnam were mostly committed on a personal level (rapes, theft etc) or by the local military stationed there (pillaging). Not to excuse the war crimes, but it was during a WAR. And Vietnam war involved heavy guerrilla tactics (which is one of the reasons why it was so controversial, as it was countered with non-discriminatory killings) whereas Japan was never really at war with Korea after the 16th century invasion, but the atrocities were brought on by colonial ideals of Koreans being sub-human. 4. Korea has apologied to Vietnam on several occasions, albeit the Vietnamese government said that it doesn't require an apology since they've won the war and Korea only partaken in the conflict due to its relations with the USA.
I think Korean like Japanese people, but don't like Japanese government. So do Chinese. So maybe I can understand what Korean thinking about. So The China & Japan will never have true friendship ( but Japanese people is nice), until the Japanese government honestly admits it's mistakes like Germany does towards Jews. Chinese know of the scandals of their own government, which has killed tens of millions of Chinese, information only temporarily not released, now more and more public. However, the Japanese government's announcements of Japan's scandals is becoming less and less public. This is different. The whole world said "Nanking Massacre", only the Japanese government said "Nanking incident". We know too much about the Japanese government's evildoing, but you Japanese people are not clear. Check Wikipedia in English more information. Have you seen the video about the Japanese prime minister who said, "I'm so sorry” on RUclips? I've only seen the Japanese Prime Minister say "excuse me." They avoid the word "sorry". In Germany, the Nazi flag is a crime now, but the rising sun flag is still a very important position in japan now. That's the difference. I believe that if Germany were to use Nazi flags as an important position, no country in Europe would forgive Germany. The Asian countries, except China and Korea, forgive Japan because they are too weak and spineless. BTW, Japanese government not only do bad things like what I said to China, but also did bad things to other Asian countries. But just China & Korea fight for this.
Now that I see this video, I'm getting curious about the opinion of Vietnam regarding their comfort women by Korean. I know that during Vietnam wars American and Korean create comfort women too, but I only knew Korean comfort women news. Where are the others voice? Was it being suppresed?

Music Art sure, Japanese let the Korean women live after they done their business, but Korean men cut the Vietnamese women throat after they done their business. Even heard of all the torture methods and the mad killing of Vietnamese Prisoner that American and South Korean committed?
It is the only type of apology the Japanese know how to offer. In Japan, apologies only signal that the giver wants to continue to have a relationship with the receiver. It is a tool used very infrequently. A deep apology from a Japanese (the A side) to a non-Japanese (the B side) is seen as entirely unnecessary.
It's quite understandable and fair that some koreans dont like Japan, tbh in real life I feel that japanese and koreans get along very well but in the Internet I see a lot of hate from both parts... I hope for a better relationship in the future!
anyone can talk shit online, and anyone can hate easily behind a monitor and when nobody knows who you are it takes close to zero effort to hate, but everything to love one another honestly wish that both countries can come to peace some day, as a person who grew up in Japan but was born Korean
You probably know this, but Koreans and the Japanese tend to be the best of friends when in North American high school environments. I'm Korean, but all my closest high school friends in Canada were Japanese lol. They helped me get through that ugly time of life!
1:52 He was born(1937) in Japanese colonial era(1910~1945). I think some of the word that he talked is his experience or his close people's experience.
Well personality I don't think if someone was born during a war time they or their close people have real experience of it. Cause my dad was born during a war in my country and he basically didn't have that kind of experience nor did his close people.
@@petrabonnie I’m sorry, but if you have no idea about what happened during ww2 in Asia, then you can’t compare the war experience ever because those years were tough times
@@petrabonnie And where was your dad born? That plays a part. The US, Canada, Australia or NZ? Rural parts of the UK which weren't part of the blitz? @kevin couture actually japanese people do not vote for prime minister, also i heard that, prime minister shinzo abe will be resigning soon because of ulceritive colitis(non-treatable disease)
I see it somewhat the other way around, the old man sees the wrong doings of japan but also is aware that is changed and not the same people that ruled over their country
@@shalahuddin.n2976 to me I think it’s impressive that a Korea person person that is somewhat old saying the good stuff first, it’s a given that they hold prejudice towards japan but he only says something about it after he gets asked the question. Of course he’s completely aware of their wrongdoings, he’s korean. But what I see is how open minded he is to japan and is more surprising that he has a lot to say about the good things. He’s holds the goods before the bad, as a Korean. That’s surprising
I honestly wish that warm hearted Korean grandpa really spoke from his heart. He clearly didn't want to offend anyone but speaking the truth. Shame on the Japanese.
@@UniqueKwon The japanese aren't the same people who colonized joseon anymore, its time we forgive. We aren't exactly the best country for ourselves either with a long line of corruption and I think we should focus on the current problems rather than the past's. There's other countries that have been doing worse and it's actions have never been talked about. While japan gets hated on for something they couldn't control. Lets stop this predujuce and become better people all together.
I am Japanese and I want to say sorry from bottom of my heart what Japan had done to Korea in the past, however we all (especially young people) hope that we can change the relationships as a country in a good way from now on.
My thoughts about Japan are like those of majority of Koreans who were interviewed by Asian Boss. Generally, I admire the Japanese people for their attitude, discipline and cleanliness--both in their surroundings and the way they handle their food. On the other hand, since I'm a history major/enthusiast, I'm also aware of the atrocities of the Japanese soldiers against our grandmothers and great grandmothers during World War II like the Korean women experienced with their Japanese colonizers. The Philippines was occupied by Japan for three years and during those three years, I could say that what Japan did to my country and most especially, to our grandmothers and great grandmothers, was extremely unforgivable. Honestly, I don''t understand why the Japanese government don't recognize this fact and SINCERELY apologize to those countries who were victims of their aggression during World War II, especially to the women of these countries. Why not the Japanese government follow the move of the German government that every time a German leader is elected to his/her post, he/she expresses his/her sincerest apologies to the countries and racial groups like the Jews who became victims of the Nazi regime during World War II? Why does the Japanese government not include in their history curriculum the "sins" of their past like the comfort women and the negative effects of their occupation of the different countries throughout Asia like the Philippines (3 years) and Korea (35 years)? One of the Koreans in the Asian Boss interviews was right in saying that the Japanese should their youth about their history based on the "victim's perspective." I know that this move will be embarrassing on the part of the Japanese government. However, how can they move on if they are not brave enough to face their evil past and express their sincerest apologies to their victims during World War II?
Josefus Aleksis Alunan 【 The IWG Report : Japanese Comfort Woman 】 2015 Today, in spite of evidence that the testimonies about the comfort women are baseless, South Korea continues to hang to it and demand a state apology plus a hefty monetary compensation way beyond what Japan offered. According to the IWG report, the fact that no records have surfaced of war crimes in relation to comfort women indicates the low reliability of the testimony of comfort women. Meanwhile, South Korea keeps asking Japan to admit to its atrocities, make a state apology and give financial compensation with money taken from the government coffers, while keeping silent on their atrocities in Vietnam and disputing against their own old women who used to be U.S. comfort women . Until the IWG report is fully dissected, South Korea should control its assault in the face of unverified accounts
It seems that the two netizens who gave their comments on comfort women are obviously came from the Land of the Rising Sun (correct me if I'm wrong). It is basically natural that these netizens would defend their own country to those people from countries who experienced atrocities during World War II under Japanese rule. This could be the result of sanitizing Japan's history by its government in the eyes of its people. I'm speaking from the victims' perspective and I firmly believe that it's a historical fact that Japan during that time did something bad, or should I say evil, against our grandparents and great grandparents. How would they disregard the fact that Japan then conquered Asian countries like China, Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. without doing such atrocities, specifically not recognizing the human rights of their conquered peoples? I'm a history major and I'm confident to tell these things not just from the victims' perspective but also from a historian's perspective.
Josefus Aleksis Alunan i absolutely agree history textbooks should write down what japanese did (obviously facts tho, because many nationalistic koreans and chinese have come up with crazy figures of numbers that never happened) but the whole apologizing constantly is RIDICULOUS. If your great grandfather killed someone, and you were never alive or apart of it, is it really up to you to continue apologizing for the rest of your life what your great grandpa did? no. Get over yourself, modern day germany does not support nazis, just like modern day japan does not support the imperial empire. THINGS CHANGE. god if we bring up every single atrocity committed by any group we would never move on. Japan aided korea by the millions in 1965, they gave reperations to Vietnam. and al countries like vietnam, taiwan, singapore, etc have all forgave japan and they have extremely strong ties. the countries benefit off each other. japan is now the number one investor in vietnam and the vietnamese people have also done a lot for japan. this is what it looks like. please stop telling innocent japanese kids that they should be blamed for atrocities that happened when they were never alive, let alone be a part of. look how close america and japan are today! and notice how all the young koreans mentioned how kind japanese people are. that’s called learning and moving on. yes they should recognize it because it’s history and we should not make the same mistakes ever again. but get over yourself, do you really think japan, where it’s at right now (culturally, socially, physically) would ever try anything like that again? i don’t even know of a country that would.
Jessie Li haha I was travelling in Japan for three weeks and I came back home about a week ago, I spent 9 days in Tokyo and I tought that the food was quite cheap to be honest. Only thing that was just a little bit more expensive compared to other countries was staying in hostel/air bnb in Tokyo. :D
@@Thayoz because your tourist and much probably you have money for it, I live in Japan more than 12 years and with one salary I can't spend more than 3 days there because of high price
I am so mad with the mistranslation and tricky editing they did. Asian Boss, can you at least be honest?? People who can't understand Korean will have a wrong idea of what the old man said cause of the wrong translation you did in English
No matter how well me and my Korean friends get along with each other on a personal level, it seems extraordinarily hard to achieve the peace between the countries given the history and recent political issues... good to know some responded positively about Japan, and sad and sorry to see what our ancestors had done still devastated their hearts.
You only need to apologize and admit your mistake. It is unfortunately something Japan refuses to do. Hopefully a new generation of leaders will come and heal their lands.
@@tongo148 Admit yes, apologize no, not in the slightest. The only people who have to apologize for the crimes of ww2 are either already dead or extremely old. It's not the fault of todays people who were born many years after the war. Rather they should learn from past mistakes to prevent such thing from happening again.
I thought Japan and Korea will never be friendly to each other when I saw this comment section but it might be the best for both countries if they want.

Basically, politics sucks, internationally. Everyone’s history is dark. But the people, all over the world, is pretty damn alright (for the most part). We’re not that different from each other. It’s interesting hearing about other countries conflicts and struggles. This video definitely widened my worldview. It’s oddly humbling.
Indeed. And I have to say that it seems to be positive changes for the most part. Younger Koreans seem to show more that they're collectively moving on rather than holding on to past grudges.
Why did you MISTRANSLATE INTENTIONALLY?? In 9:10 , the interviewer didn't say "comfort women". What she said is "what Korean soldiers did in Vietnam war" and she meant some rape crimes or civilian damage which was committed by some individual soldiers. It's totally different with "comfort women" which was systematically run by Japanese military authorities itself. Korean authorities didn't run comfort women in Vietnam.
This is why Japan bringing up Korea's Vietnamese war crimes to justify their atrocities in WW2 is a nasty move. Japan's comfort woman is an issue of collective slavery and exploitation denying human rights done by Japanese imperial authorities whereas Korean soldiers' rapes and homicides of Vietnamese were an issue of individual war crimes not done by the government. And Korea made apologies to Vietnam for its soldiers' wrongdoings.
@@busysloth6592 It's a story about a Korean prostitute and her owner to the Japanese army, and it's not exploitation or anything. Some of the women may have been forcibly brought in or the money was not paid properly, but it is the responsibility of the Korean owner. The Japanese army gave them a job for the purpose of getting money, but they betrayed them. Adult Japan paid money because Korea made a fuss about the comfort women issue. But the money was also stolen by organizations and governments, not the parties involved. A problem of responsibility only for Koreans from beginning to end.

I totally agree with the old man. As a korean my impressions of Japan is positive in a way (manners, culture, food, anime etc) but also negative (politics, history, etc)
That man is 82?!?! He could have fooled me by saying he was 60! That being said I felt he showed some bias towards the Japanese as he thought it was terrible what they did to his people but when told about the Vietnamese, he seemed to brush the story aside and say nothing happened. Anyways, this interview with the other people were very informative, I hope one day the Japanese & South Korean governments can put their issues aside and work together for a better future for both their citizens!
The Korean government has apologized and requested a joint investigation into what really happened there. Vietnamese replied that everything's cool. So no, Japanese and Korean responses to allegations are not comparable at all.
I would say most Koreans are usually uninformed/misinformed about their own country's wrongdoings. Issues that spring to mind are the Vietnamese comfort women or the massacres of Christians in the mid-late 19th century. Koreans typically only learn about how they were wronged in the past. I suppose this kind of thing doesn't happen exclusively in Korea, however, but most countries.
Im Japanese American and all of my friends are Chinese Korean Americans and we love love love each others differences and cultures but also realize that we have 99.9% in common with each other.
It seems to me like they don't have any social issue with Japanese people, but rather have a political problem with Japan as a country and how it has handled certain issues of the past. Hopefully I'll have time to record a video for this sometime because I think it's quite an interesting topic 😊
paisleyyama Hey :), don't get me wrong, I'm not neglecting the political issues or downplaying them at all. What I mean is that the general public doesn't seem to have dislike towards Japanese people in general. They infact love them and have good experiences having visited Japan however from a political standpoint they have unresolved resentment towards the country for past doings. It's like when you have a friend who has deeply wronged you but you choose to move on from it because you feel that it would be better to try and move forward since the person has changed a bit for the better. The only problem is that the person has not apologised appropriately and shown any remorse for what they did or acknowledged that they have done you wrong. So the hurt sits with you and festers overtime and will eventually explode. I think that's what you mean by Political issues eventually leading to future problems and wars. This is why I think it is good to have these conversations so that people can see how others feel and my only point is that socially for the Korean people there seems to be a sort of open heart to want to build better relations with Japan on condition that they appropriately resolve the political issues. I just think its a good start that they don't hate Japanese people as a whole ☺️

Honestly, it really is the same anywhere you go. In high school and lower, students don't tend to learn about the atrocities committed by their own government. A lot of the Japanese don't know about what happened during WWII, a lot of Koreans don't seem to know about the comfort women in Vietnam and most Americans don't know about the My Lai Massacre and other atrocities in Vietnam. I'm portuguese and we have a colonial past. I think it's both stupid and irresponsible to be ashamed of your country's past past a certain time frame. For example if someone comes to me about BS regarding Portugal colonizing Brazil (back in 1500) I roll my eyes (specially since the white descendency in that country is more closely related to the colonizers than even I am in most cases. It's disingenuous to say things done there were done by "Portugal", any more than Brazil. As a contrast though, if I know of something war related back in the 70s when Portugal were fighting in their ex african colonies (Angola, Guine etc)...........then I'm much more inclined to take ownership and feel bad about any harm being done But mostly.........it's a hypocritial topic since EVERY country was created and born out of blood and violence. And throwing away all positive aspects of your history makes as much sense as an american denouncing EVERYthing in their culture, because they invaded Iraq or Afghanistan. Mindless shame and guilt breed NOTHING positive and only focus on negative aspects.

I like most of serious topics and interviews that Asian Boss covers. Appreciate the hard work and valuable programs. Japan did the same thing (comfort women and massacre) to our country Indonesia. Japan never apologized to us either as far as I know (I'm 35 years Indonesian). And what happen today? Japan and Indonesia both governmentally and the people have become close friends. Strange but thats the truth. Maybe we Indonesian are more forgiving than Korean?
@TCHD 2017YT oh I see!!! But some Filipinos have a grudge and hate toward Japan up to now, those Filipinos whose relative became a victim of Japanese during the war. It may seem short for some, but for the victims, I feel how angry they are with Japanese up to now. I think Japan should take a step regarding this
@TCHD 2017YT the same here in the Philippines, most of those who suffer from the Japanese during war passed away. But others who witnessed the horrible event are still alive. My grandmothers told me about how they witness the war, luckily, it was Japanese who help them escape the brutality of other Japanese, they told me that some Japanese are really cruel during the war, only few survived. By the way, they both died because of old age, and hearing their stories during the war, I got afraid of Japanese before.

When I was in Japan there were a lot of Koreans. I really feel like it is more a political issue rather than social. Also Japanese girls who I know really admire Korean culture (music, food, clothes make up etc.) I did not hear them speak in a bad way about Korea at all. I think it's a shame that Japan is put away as a bad by some Koreans just of the political situations. I'm not trying to trivialize the history (!). The old man of 80 something who spoke with so much nuance about Japan has my respect. Even though he knows the history about Japan/Korea he still has the courage to talk also about positive things in Japan (as far as he can be positive). I hope relationships between Japan and Korea will improve and also hope Japan will speak kindly of Korea.
Many Japanese and Japanese politicians still say that "Japanese aggression contributed to Korea's modernization," "Japanese Military Sexual Slavery is a prostitute," and "Japan has never invaded Korea." At least the Korean government has correctly acknowledged the sacrifices of Vietnamese civilians, apologizes to Vietnam, and never makes a mockery of their deaths. Korea doesn't even revise history. It is very regrettable that Koreans were sacrificed during the Japanese colonial period for 35 years. 1.3 million Koreans, including Hiroshima, were forced to work abroad, and 6.4 million were forcibly mobilized for coal mines and construction in Korea. More than 10,000 Koreans were massacred in Japan in the Great Kanto Earthquake (the Japan admitted only 6,600). 220,000 Koreans were forcibly recruited and killed, and other victims of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery, Victims of biological experiments, and victims were too many to be listed one by one. However, Japanese politicians are changing their words that there was no massacre of Koreans during the Great Kanto Earthquake in May 2023,Japan has designated Gunhamdo (the island where Koreans were forced to work) to UNESCO. Also Japan is putting pressure on each country to remove the comfort women statue.
@@kcco8367 you think yourself superior or something? Have you apologize to Vietnamese women? Payed them? Or are you just mad people are finally uncovering what you people did?
You are having a big misunderstanding. Japan, to the governmental authority of the country and accepting the forced into sexual slavery. Japan's problem is that Japan does not acknowledge it. It is hard to deny that some Korean soldiers killed civilians or had inappropriate incidents during the Vietnam War. However, it is fundamentally different from the Japanese military's crime during World War II. It happened by "Japanese government" In the case of the Korean military, it was considered inappropriate behavior by some deviant people(raping, sexual crime), and if rape was detected in combat areas, it was severely punished. If rape was detected in the battery, he would have been punished severely. Never run a system to sexual slavery was spearheaded by countries like Japan. South Korea has never run a state led to sexual slavery, like Japan. South Korea's military law punishes anyone who rapes, there is no punishment other than death penalty. In fact, some soldiers were executed for raping. Between Korea and Vietnam, there are no unresolved past issues. If the Vietnamese government demands an active investigation, compensation, or apology for its past history, the Korean government has no reason to avoid it. Korean presidents have expressed regret over Vietnam several times. (and it should never stop.)
@@vere569 Koreans: Japan should apologize. Also Koreans: what we did in Vietnam is different, because we said so. We don't care what Vietnamese people say, it's different lol.
Something I really appreciate when watching both Japanese and Koreans is that when asked what they think about something they will very carefully respond with, "The media says __" or, "I was taught __". Which conveys a great sense of openness. You don't see much of that in the west anymore.
Great to hear from real people on the street absolutely hitting the nail on the head from both videos. I really wish there was less rivalry and more co-operation between Japan and Korea. The only hate is obviously directed rightly so towards respective Governments.
Can you do interviews with Asian-Americans and other communities that are not based in Asia? I'm Korean-American and it would be really interesting to hear perspectives on the same topics from these communities and immigrants!
As a Chinese American I dont think most of us care about this topic (aside from maybe 1st gen). Most of us learned about the atrocities through history class..so we arent totally ignorant about it either.
9:12 What the interviewer say about the Vietnam war was corrected. Korea was just as cruel to the Vietnam comfort women as the Japanese to them but most Korean don't acknowledge this at all. Just google La Dai Han. Its the tern for half Korean hallf Vietnamese baby that was born because of raped. So it a bit hypocrisy that they so upset about Japanese apology when they did the same thing in Vietnam and thinks it was good deed.

Since establishing diplomatic relations with South Korea in 1992, the Vietnamese government has maintained that there is no need to apologize from the perspective of the victorious country. But that doesn't mean it's gone. We must remember this and apologize
As third-party foreigners don't know very much about Japan's atrocities, It is very inappropriate to advise Koreans to be reconciled and to understand each other. It's like asking the Jews to understand and forgive the atrocities the Nazis committed. The Japanese government makes lame apologies only if it is politically disadvantaged. but if circumstances change, it makes a reversal of the apology. Japan has been repeating this behavior toward Korea for 70 years since World War II. Japan is a crazy country, isn't it wrong to say so? This is the reality.
I agree that it is hard for those that are not part of the culture to understand the full context of these situations, but that does not mean that they should be silenced when asking for peace. Many foreigners go to great lengths to educate themselves and these matters, even if they do not carry the same emotional toll as they do for citizens of these nations. Furthermore, asking for peace should not be viewed as a bad thing; I don't believe people are asking for anyone to forget what happened or dismiss how serious it was - simply that everyone involved chooses to move forward as equals. Ideally, everyone would push for a mutually beneficial and respectful relationship between the two nations. Somehow, I don't think the average Korean or Japanese person really has a problem with the other, just each other's governments. Remember, people are not their governments. Your right, the political nonsense on both sides has been, at varying times divisive and unsettling. Unfortunately, this is often the nature of politics. To take it as commentary about the mentality or sincerity of the Japanese people as a whole is a gross generalization that will lead to naught but hostility and misery. In summary, Japan's government may occasionally be crazy, but that doesn't mean it's people are. Besides, both South and North Korea have had their fair share or asinine politicians too. On another note, it is really inaccurate to compare this situation to forgiving the Nazis as if they are somehow still in power. In case you missed the memo, they are not, nor is the empire that committed the crimes against Korea. The people affected by the Third Reich absolutely hold those responsible accountable for their crimes (as many as are still alive, that is), however they also understand that the current German government is not the same as the Nazi party that controlled Germany during the war - they are as different as can be. It would be completely irrational to hold them accountable for crimes that they had no part in, no control over, and in many cases, weren't even around for because they had yet to be born. Likewise, holding the current Japanese people accountable for something they had no part in or control over is illogical at best, and prejudicial at worst. Should Japan teach it's citizens about what happened and the crimes their empire committed? Absolutely. Should those involved be held accountable? Most definitely. Should a grudge be held against people who weren't even around for said events? No, not really, not by anyone that considers themselves to be a rational human being. Again, just as the current German government is not the same as the Nazis, and nor are the German people, neither is Japan's current government or it's people the same as the Empire that invaded and occupied Korea. Biggest take away - the Japanese people and their government are not synonymous; maybe don't treat them as such. Also, as a side note, it's a little hypocritical to claim foreigners are inappropriate in advising reconciliation as they "don't know very much about Japan's atrocities," and then compare it to the Nazi regime, since you clearly don't have as good a grasp of modern European politics as one might hope. If you think we have no business commenting on things you assume we cannot understand, you should at least have the courtesy to return the favor.
White soldiers (especially French and Russian) in the Eight Nation Alliance raped and bayonet every Beijing women they came across in NE China in 1900s, just because Chinese wanted to defend their own country.
No, it is asking the jews to accept and move on from what the _germans_ have did. Modern Japan isn't the teikoku, it is imperative to not generalise the two, leading to further tensions and grudge. Many South-East Asian countries have moved on from Japanese Occupation, perhaps it is because we're all developing countries with no money and time to waste, you might say, but even Singapore -- the country with the majority of mainland chinese that we all know the Japanese empire just love to play pin-the-donkey with-- has moved on to a clean state. I feel that we can only forget the grudge and move on; such crimes are incomparable, can't be bought by money, and not even by an apology. Although, I really do wish that the government would put in more effort into uncensoring the textbook and promoting more racial equality policies through education. With the ageing population it is imperative that Japanese learn how to stop xenophobia around their country and improve foreign relations. Maybe once the people are free to learn, the government can finally apologise and East Asia can flourish once again. Praying for yall 2021 election.
This is actually what's happening between Japan and China and between Korea and China. New defense contracts excluding the US as trumpanzee requested 5x the money we pay annually. However the feud between Japan and Korea will never be resolved as we will always remember what the Japanese have done to us, while the Japanese try to bury what happened and act innocent.
I myself am Chinese and live in Canada. Korean, Chinese and Japanese people can get along with each other here. I feel like we can be very good friends if there is no such history. I mean we still have a lot to do.
Honestly, it's so reassuring to hear the openness of these young people. I hope that these two countries are able to get along well in the future and be friends.
I am a Korean. I , my family, and all of my friends feel that we owe debt to Vietnam for the misconduct done by some Korean soldires during Vietnam war. No excuse is justified. We will continue to express our apology until our sincere heart is accepted by Vietnam and its people.
I’m reassured that the people of both countries don’t dislike each other's culture. If they try to dislike culture, it means the end of the relationship 🥺 Youths from both countries should discuss, because it is the youths who make the future relationship.
In short, every country has a dark history and governments are corrupt. Despite this, normal Koreans like Japanese and normal Japanese like Koreans. Any reason why anyone would want to cause tensions is selfish. Agree to disagree so look forward to a better future together.

Elle Tan Let's be real here. Do you really think you view or your people's view will change anything? No, the world doesn't work like that. We like our status quo. If you want change so much, then just go to war. If you don't then just let it go. You're wasting your time in life by worrying over something that won't change and you can't change. Look, my people (Indonesians) have been conquered and enslaved by Japanese, they're pretty brutal as well. And guess what? The Japanese didn't apologized. But we've gone past that and we simply let things go. But look at us now, many Japanese investors are here and many of my people are working abroad in Japan...What i'm saying is that, most of the times, grasping on to the past may burden you more than when you let things go.

Many people dont know Korean are not a victim but a perpetrator during WW2.They volunteered for Japanese army and committed brutal misdeeds with Japanese soldiers together. thus Korea was not allowed to sign the treaty of San Francisco. After the war, Korea whitewashed these facts under the carpet and pretended to be a victim of the war. Many Korean-soldiers were honored in the Yasukuni shrine as a hero and were paid money for that. Regarding comfort women, Korean believe Japanese soldiers kidnaped them to battle fields. They dont learn the fact that Korean agents fooled these women into serving soldiers there. Unfortunately many people are fooled by the Korean's anti-Japanese propaganda.
In this RUclips comment section: Japanese about the Comfort women issue: "Where's the evidence?", "We already apologized so why are you still talking about it?", "Lets forget about history. Past is just the past", "Hey let's talk about Vietnam instead" Koreans about the Vietnam issue: "We're terribly sorry for what happened, and we want to apologize, but Japan took it to a whole new level compared to us." "You can't compare sex slavery with sexual assault." I swear it's the same thing everytime there's a video about Korea and Japan in RUclips. And don't mind me I'm just a Canadian eating popcorn.
We’re all hypocrites in the end but seriously the Japanese take it to a whole new level. It’s an entire nation of people that can look the other way whenever things go wrong
When I was high school student I learned that korean soldiers raped vietnam woman during the vietnam war. It's fact and unforgettable history. but I think the situation is a little different between japan and korea. actually korean government already tried to apologize many times(president park, moon already apologized and said we want to give some compensation for victims)but vietnamese government deny that apology because of two reason; they are winner of that war. and the war is between U.S and vietnam not with korea. we participated in the war as a alliance of U.S. of course it's our fault but we can't apologize because veitnam government don't want for korean government to apologize. furthermore we had never committed the veitnam war but japan committed the second world war and colonized us during almost 40 years. and in veitnam war sexual harassment had done as a personal level. but it was japan emperor that made many korean girls their sex slaves. I think comparing the cases between korea and japan is absurd. It's totally different situation. If we just focus on the victims of the wars, many foreigner think it looks so simmilar because japan also apologize to us many times about sex slaves, and also colonization. but when they apologized about it they said like that. japanese government didn't know anything about it. but the government admit some bad japanese did that. so they decide to apologize. after that? the minister visited yasukuni shirine keeping an ancestral tablets of war criminals. they have never apologized if we don't ask for that(before Vietnam government ask us to apologize we did that) and after apologizing unwillingly they justify there fault. that's why many korean think japan government is not sincere regarding their fault. many korean think they just pretend to apologize In my opinion we don't need to be too serious about the issue as individuals. younger ganeration don't need to apologize the sin which their ancestor committed. but in case of government they must apologize about what they did. every government including korea, japan and veitnam must consider the victims of the history first. if vietnam government said korean government don't need to. we must keep apologizing about what we did. and it's same to japan. all of us, as a human, recognize the history as it is and must be sincere when we apologize about what we did.
In conclusion, I'd like to say one more. I think this channel is presenting a very one sided picture of the issue of the vietnam war. the interviewer asked only one old man the question about the issue. many elder people tend to be more conservative and think differently in comparison with younger generation. we have studied about veitnam war in school now and think we must apologize to the woman raped during the war.

(Though there were rapes by individual soldiers, no systematic luring/forcing women into sex slavery like Japan did.)
2. the old man said as far as he's aware, he didn't hear that there was much fuss caused by the Korean army, not the tone of denial in the subtitles. (Though he seems to be obviously uninformed about the matter, since he is very old. Most youth would know this from schooling.)
Do a video on India

Josefus Aleksis Alunan Did Germany apologized which country ? Other than Jewish Persecution . .
Josefus Aleksis Alunan 【 The IWG Report : Japanese Comfort Woman 】 2015
Today, in spite of evidence that the testimonies about the comfort women are baseless, South Korea continues to hang to it and demand a state apology plus a hefty monetary compensation way beyond what Japan offered.

No matter how well me and my Korean friends get along with each other on a personal level, it seems extraordinarily hard to achieve the peace between the countries given the history and recent political issues... good to know some responded positively about Japan, and sad and sorry to see what our ancestors had done still devastated their hearts.

@@busysloth6592
It's a story about a Korean prostitute and her owner to the Japanese army, and it's not exploitation or anything.

I would say most Koreans are usually uninformed/misinformed about their own country's wrongdoings.

A lot of the Japanese don't know about what happened during WWII, a lot of Koreans don't seem to know about the comfort women in Vietnam and most Americans don't know about the My Lai Massacre and other atrocities in Vietnam. It's disingenuous to say things done there were done by "Portugal", any more than Brazil.
As a contrast though, if I know of something war related back in the 70s when Portugal were fighting in their ex african colonies (Angola, Guine etc)...........then I'm much more inclined to take ownership and feel bad about any harm being done
But mostly.........it's a hypocritial topic since EVERY country was created and born out of blood and violence.

It happened by "Japanese government"
In the case of the Korean military, it was considered inappropriate behavior by some deviant people(raping, sexual crime), and if rape was detected in combat areas, it was severely punished.

Since establishing diplomatic relations with South Korea in 1992, the Vietnamese government has maintained that there is no need to apologize from the perspective of the victorious country.
But that doesn't mean it's gone.
We must remember this and apologize
Korea should learn from Vietnam.
Vietnam keeps one-track policy, whole Korea, two tracks, demanding apologies and money from Japan.

I’m Japanese and not into politics at all. But let me just say I love Korean food, face masks and body scrub😍

In this RUclips comment section:
Japanese about the Comfort women issue:
"Where's the evidence?", "We already apologized so why are you still talking about it?", "Lets forget about history. Past is just the past", "Hey let's talk about Vietnam instead"
Koreans about the Vietnam issue:
"We're terribly sorry for what happened, and we want to apologize, but Japan took it to a whole new level compared to us." "You can't compare sex slavery with sexual assault."
I swear it's the same thing everytime there's a video about Korea and Japan in RUclips.
And don't mind me I'm just a Canadian eating popcorn.
We’re all hypocrites in the end but seriously the Japanese take it to a whole new level. It’s an entire nation of people that can look the other way whenever things go wrong
damn true, I don't think all the Japanese comment are like this but at least 80% of them are exactly what you portrayed.....lol
If we just focus on the victims of the wars, many foreigner think it looks so simmilar because japan also apologize to us many times about sex slaves, and also colonization.
but when they apologized about it they said like that. japanese government didn't know anything about it. but the government admit some bad japanese did that. so they decide to apologize. after that? the minister visited yasukuni shirine keeping an ancestral tablets of war criminals.
they have never apologized if we don't ask for that(before Vietnam government ask us to apologize we did that) and after apologizing unwillingly they justify there fault. that's why many korean think japan government is not sincere regarding their fault. many korean think they just pretend to apologize
In my opinion we don't need to be too serious about the issue as individuals. younger ganeration don't need to apologize the sin which their ancestor committed. but in case of government they must apologize about what they did. every government including korea, japan and veitnam must consider the victims of the history first. if vietnam government said korean government don't need to. we must keep apologizing about what we did. and it's same to japan. all of us, as a human, recognize the history as it is and must be sincere when we apologize about what we did.
