    Middle frog: Ping 999+ "waiting to reconnect"

  • @George.Orwell
    @George.Orwell Год назад +78

    SHORT EXPLANATION (for GenZ): t's not that they taste bad, they sting and have poison glands connecting to the base of the quills. That means the one who almost swallowed it had an experience equivalent to taking a bite out of a cactus covered in rubbing alcohol.
    LONGERINO FOR TARDS ONLY: The saddleback caterpillar (Acharia stimulea, formerly Sibine stimulea) is the larva of a species of moth native to eastern North America. It is also found in Mexico. The species belongs to the family of slug caterpillars, Limacodidae.
    The larva (caterpillar) is primarily green with brown at both ends and a prominent white-ringed brown dot in the center which resembles a saddle. It has a pair of fleshy horns at both ends. These and most of the rest of the body bear urticating hairs that secrete an irritating venom. Contact with the hairs causes a painful, swollen rash and sometimes nausea in humans. In some cases, more severe reactions to the venom can occur, including a systemic condition called erucism or acute urticaria, for which severe symptoms may include migraines, gastrointestinal symptoms, asthma complications, anaphylactic shock, rupturing of erythrocytes, and hemorrhaging. The hairs should be removed from the skin immediately to prevent more venom spread. The cocoon may also have irritating hairs, and hairs from the larva can fall on surrounding objects.
    Acharia stimulea is known for having one of the strongest stings and due to the saddleback caterpillar being commonly found in ornamental plants, gardeners are most at risk to accidental exposure. The spines along the caterpillar, when broken, will release an irritating toxin into its victims that is known to cause acute urticaria in humans. These spines are fragile and can become airborne and embedded into surfaces therefore immediate action is required for removal if infected to prevent prolonged harm. Spines can be removed by using adhesive tape over the infected area to pull out the spines, with a new piece of tape used for each treatment.
    Symptoms can be mild or severe and can last from a few hours to a few days depending on the sensitivity of those infected and can be relieved through prescribed medication on a case-by-case basis. Some of the symptoms include headaches, conjunctivitis, difficulty breathing, gastrointestinal symptoms, asthma complications, anaphylactic shock and hemorrhaging. Ice packs, corticosteroids, topical and oral antihistamines have been reported to help relieve pain.

    I like the idea of a sorting algorithm representing rational, deductive thought and reasoning eventually resolving on a logical conclusion, while the loading dial isn't necessarily implying any rational thought behind it; it's just loading an action. In this case, for the leftmost frog, that action is "EAT FUNNY WIGGLY THING". And after the other two frogs hurt themselves trying to eat a venomous 'pillar, the middle frog realises it's probably _not_ a good idea to take a taste itself.

    As someone who's actually been on the receiving end of a saddleback caterpillar sting, I feel AWFUL for these poor ribblers who got stung on their tongue. If you see one of these, do NOT touch it, you will regret being born when you experience the level of pain they can bring.
    It is still to date the most agonizing pain I've ever experienced, and I've been stung by three Japanese hornets. Trust me, the hornets were comfortable compared to the fiery agony that was the venom of the humble Saddleback.
    Even then (I was 8 years old) I knew they could sting and was trying to avoid it while I was looking for other insects on the rose bush behind my grandmother's house. The little fμ¢ker decided I wasn't allowed to avoid him and he borderline launched himself off the leaf and fell on my right middle finger. The pain I felt was unlike anything I had experienced and I spent the next 2 hours during VBS, while my brothers and cousins were having fun, running ice-cold water from the water fountain over my finger just to numb the pain to a bearable level.
