This is actually a genius set in that it fits pretty much any line of figures you might have had. Your Star Trek can go back in time, your superheroes can go to a lost world, your apes can discover an unexplored area of the Forbidden Zone, etc.
If I had known about this back in the day I would have taken my Ka-Zar action figure (a helmetless Thor in homemade lion cloth) and used that cut out sabretooth as Zabu and made this my Savage Land play set. (And as I write this I mentally time traveled and did just that--all without a Flux Capacitor, so thank you).
Have a picture of myself opening this playset at Christmas (with an array of Planet of the Apes) figures in the background. I believe I also got some Carson City figures that year. I loved the MEGO toys.
@@BrickMantooth I wish I had more, but I'll have to start going through some boxes of photos. I used to be a huge MEGO fan when I was a kid. Had Planet of the Apes, The Super Heroes line, some of the Carson City figures, etc. Here's an imgur of that photo with the Lost Continent Playset i.imgur.com/cyihjr2.jpg
i had a few A.J. ,s .I also had all other figs around at that time.He did fit in w/ other lines ,so he was always there ! Discounted ,i was able to score shitloads of stuff that last year.
I think it's funny that three Mego lines are mentioned on the box- Action Jackson, Planet of the Apes, and World's Greatest Super Heroes. I have the Batman Batcave, which bares an uncanny likeness to this playset. The Bat Signal still works. It's interesting that you show the Action Jackson outfits. I have three different versions of the Surf 'n Scuba outfit. I also have the Jungle Safari outfit with the nice artwork on the box. I have the Star World figure case (as well as the Space Case), and it's probably the most blatant Star Wars knockoff I've seen. I have it filled with extra GI Joe clothing. I love the artwork- an R2-D2/Nomad hybrid, C-3PO with a hangover, Darth Vader in a miniskirt, Chewbacca with an Apes vest, Steve Austin's Mission to Mars helmet.
The action figure on the left 1:06 looks like one the "Fighting Yank" figures :) Dinosaurs are also more similar to the "Chinasaurus" series... I'm glad I've found your interesting channel!
Never had the Apes or AJ, but totally had some of the monsters and superheroes. Damn I miss having silly crap like that and playing the hell out of it. I remember thinking the monsters were generic and looked nothing like the Universal monsters lol
I got an action jackson for Christmas one year. I have to say it was a bit of a disappointment. Gi joe had tons of weapons and accessories while A.J. not so much. Also the 8 inch size as opposed to 12 inch gi joe just didn't make the cut for me. Don't get me wrong I still played with it but didn't enjoy it as much. Everything paled in comparison to gi joe.

The magic of the Mego-Verse. 🙂
Did you do a video on the Jungle House? I can't find one.
I haven't yet.
I was curious about the function of the idol. I googled for it, and nothing I found actually mentioned it.

Well done!
I need to catch up with all the videos I'm glad I've found this channel
Welcome aboard!
Soooo cool!
totally agree.
i don't recall these sets when i was a kid. i later saw a batcave plastic set for the smaller figures
The pocket heroes batcave is cool.
Very cool back story on this. Thank you.

Very cool! I wish I had photos like that.

Whoo-hoo...I've been waiting for this one for a while now. This is "THE" piece I want most.. Thanks for doing this.
You're totally welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
I find it odd what Mego really went to town on with this and some parts seem flimsy. The box seems really sturdy. Love those cave people.
I like that video.
thanks Sir!
Is there pvc in old toys, like the chemical that goes into the air?

Yeah AJ is a fun line to collect, it's got great outfits and they don't often break the bank.

The cave and the Apes village use the exact same pattern tooling on the vinyl. If I had to guess, the Batcave was designed first.

I'm glad you found us too!

Curious that the cave-dwellers are clearly smaller (or 'further away') that Mr Jackson. They look more to scale with later 3-3/4" action figures...
Yeah they're kind of like 5 to 6" tall.
I thought maybe this was connected to the movie of the same name, but the movie was from '68. Still... they seem to be the same basic idea...
I had the PotA tree house.

Cool playset.
I like to think so.
