I just ordered this pen today- I had some pen money to spend, and I spent all day trying to figure out what I wanted. This took the leaderboard when I watched all 3 videos I could find on it- all 3 pens looked different and I loved all 3 of them. And I am still comforted that if for some reason it's totally awful (which I doubt from what I know of Leo and the blank maker), that I can send it back. I did end up picking up this pen!!! It is my very first fountain pen ever and I LOVE it! I also didn't get one with much variance in colors but it is still gorgeous. I inked it up with Colorverse Hayabusa (Clair Coco used it in her video and I loved the color). Thank you soooo much for recommending I get this pen in my previous comment! I am in love...need to get better at inking, my gingers are a mess lol

Thanks Sarah! The different versions of this pen are lovely, although they give different vibes. I ran into this with the Candy Estie. The promo photos for the regular size and the oversize had such a different pattern that I thought it was too risky. For this Leonardo the variations might not matter as much.
YES I was so disappointed in the first TWO Estie Candy pens I bought. I bought two on release day because I figured I would like one of them. They were pretty, but nothing like the promo photos. I ended up selling both of them to buy an oversize version from The Nibsmith. He had photos of five OS Candy Esties on his website, and I asked him if he still had a certain one. He did, and he sold it to me! So I ended up with one I love, but it was a journey for sure. That was probably one of my first experiences with that kind of expectation/disappointment, and it's probably a big reason I'm hesitant to buy things like that anymore! You're right - with this pen, I think they're probably all really pretty, even if they're different. The combo of colors and glitter can't really go wrong, I don't think!
I do, too! It took me a minute to adjust my expectations, but I told someone today - this one is so pretty I might have chosen it myself if I had several to choose from. It just wasn't exactly what I expected when I opened the box!
As a pink and purple lover, this is the perfect mix without the greens and blues mixing in too much. But I agree, if you loved the green and blues touching as in the stock photos, this is disappointing. But the fact that it’s so different like this makes others hope for either more blue, more pink, no blue, etc. on their lottery. So it’s a very very difficult thing to satisfy everyone’s preferences. You either love yours, hate it, or learn to love what you got. So I definitely save mine and don’t ink it up if I don’t like it and return it for a better one. I’ve had to do that with my Persephone, and it worked out nicely! Really love your version of this blank. And I agree, Goldspot does a great job in giving us more than just one stock photo that features the best pen. I really appreciate that and it helped me to avoid this one because it’s too risky of a resin design. Thank you for sharing❤

A very beautiful pen. Love the matching nail colour.Thank you for showing it. Momento magico is the one model from Leonardo I don't like. The dimensions smaller than what i prefer. If it were a Momento Zero, I would have got one. It was a relief actually, because I just recently picked up the Atlas stationers exclusive Leonardo MZ Golden abalone.
I know that feeling of relief about not "needing" to buy a pen! I understand not liking the Momento Magico. I like it because it's similar to the MZ, but it has a flare on the grip section, which prevents my fingers from slipping onto the nib. Other than that one feature, I probably prefer the MZ, too! I made a comparison video between the MZ and MM when I got my first MM. They're so similar, yet so different! That Golden Abalone is gorgeous - I hope you're enjoying it!
Great video!! My Leonardo came today. While I was hoping it was more like the colors of your pen, I got more purple,blue and green in my blank. It is very beautiful but I like your pen color better. I have ordered stormwinds blanks before and the 2 colors I got did not have much variation in them so it was exactly like the pen maker’s website. I order a lot of custom pens and usually I’m ok with the resins being different. Hope I grow to love this pen once I ink it up and start to write with it!!

I take myself through those exact same thoughts when I see a handmade blank made pen fresh out of the box! I even did it with the Pelikan Moonstone I just purchased 😅 I always take my new purchases to my desk lamp then natural lighting before I confirm my choices and BAM, that sparkle gets me under its spell every time. My Leonardo Planetary Nebula is one where I LOVE the body but the cap was just so so for me. I had Kirk Speer put an Imperial grind on it and now it’s one of my absolute favorites. My Visconti Kaleido Unicorn Galaxy has half the cap with no blue/purple swirl…. it is just clear with the big fat sparkles. At first I was bummed, but now I enjoy it because I think of it as a nib “show off” window. I could tell you a story about almost every one of my pens 😂 I will have to say, I did decide this year that any material with swirls or such I need to see pictures and videos of the exact pen I am getting. No more expensive gambles for me! There will always be another beautiful resin that will be made! I swear, this pen hobby is an adventure 🎉❤

Mine just arrived today and it is amazing to see the colour variation in these pen, mine is so much more green and blue with almost no purple. I was hoping for a more purple one but I do like my blank & it means I get to go ink shopping because I don't have a single ink that matches the pen.

I bought this pen the day it came out and absolutely love it! As soon as I got it I inked it up with a pretty pink shimmer ink (FWP Blushing Blossom) and it works great! When it comes to buying hand mixed resins without seeing in person I will only do it if it is either a uniform mix like just shimmer in a translucent resin (think the ascension wing blank from Stormwinds) or if I like all the colors in the blank so I don’t mind if I get more of one than the other. Like I don’t like brown and orange too much so if I am looking at a pen that has orange mixed in with other colors I am not buying online because I don’t want to get a pen that is 70% orange.
It sounds like you have a good system for decision-making! I like how you think. With this one, I think I thought "I know I MIGHT get something different, but I'll probably get exactly the pen I'm picturing in my head." 😂 So I do love it, it just took me a minute to adjust my expectations a bit!

I‘m really tempted to buy this pen, but I have the Momento Zero Grande 2.0 Galattica Universe and I think they are somewhat similar, so I will pass on the Bella di Notte. It would also be an import (US -> Germany) for me and the price including all fees is just too much for my budget right now. ;) I need to stop buying the US exclusive pens for a while, I think. :D Yours is a gorgeous pen though, thanks for showing it to us ! :)
There are so many US exclusives - I bet that really can take a toll on one's budget! The Galattica Universe is GORGEOUS and so special - if I had that one, I probably would've passed on this one, too!
I have number 136/170 and almost sent mine back because I wanted it to be more purple but I have since fallen in love with mine. It is mostly this gorgeous pinky gold with a bit of seafoam but it is light, not vividly colored like yours. The nib is great and I love writing with it. I love Leonardos! I am glad I kept mine - it is a totally different color from yours but I asked her to pick me out the most beautiful one they had left! It is amazing when the light shines on it. I got a medium nib because that’s my jam. Yours is gorgeous.

I got the Leonardo Cosmic Dust -- a Pen Chalet exclusive -- in all the pictures I saw it was something like one third cream, one third turquoise, one third brown. I picked mine up and... 3/4 brown with 1/4 cream and no blue. Completely not the pen that I'd wanted, with a totally different vibe. I still see the example photos of the pen and think, "Oooh, so pretty!" and it's kind of painful. I kept the pen that I got--I don't hate it; I just wouldn't have intentionally bought it--but I've been reluctant to roll the dice since. The differences are just too dramatic, and sellers often warn in promo materials that they're not going to help you pick out one that you like, so...
Oh noooo! What a bummer. I have experienced this several times. The sprinkle milkshake Benu pen from Goulet was one that I returned because I couldn’t get over the difference in the one I received. I wish that all retailers would do like Goldspot did with this one and take some photos that include a bunch of pens with an array of patterns, so you at least know what the possibilities are! You’re right - it’s rolling the dice for sure. I wish I had a pen show closer, because I’d probably wait and buy a lot of my pens in person if I could!

When I saw this on FPT I knew you were gonna end up with it….i just knew it. I want a Leonardo, but I’d have to buy it in person, too outside my comfort zone to spend that kinda $$$$& and not love it when it arrives
lol! You know me too well! I passed on this pen for a couple of days when it released because I was concerned about the resin. But then I couldn’t stand it and decided to give it a shot. I am not disappointed!
No need to be rude! I’ve owned a large number of fountain pens from many brands and makers, and this is the FIRST time I’ve noticed threads scraping the inside of the cap all the way around. It almost creates suction. Of course they need to be close to close tightly, but they don’t have to scrape 360° around the threads. Thankfully they’ve already worn down slightly with use and feel a bit better. Thanks!
I wonder if you can email pen sellers and ask them to send pics of stock so you can get your preference on the first try. It can’t be fun or productive for them either, having to deal with returns and unhappy customers etc. I bet they’d rather we communicated, especially on these expensive items. Sorry, but $200 is still expensive in my world. ❤
$200 is expensive - no apology needed! Some retailers are willing to work with you and send photos ahead of time, but others won’t - it’s a lot of work to open up lots of pens and try to take good photos and then back-and-forth with the customer. I didn’t ask Goldspot - I knew it would be luck-of-the-draw, and customers should go into this purchase knowing that. This is why I typically only buy handmade pens after they’re made instead of doing commissions. But yes, if you’re not willing to risk it, it can’t hurt to ask if a company will work with you!

I still see the example photos of the pen and think, "Oooh, so pretty!" and it's kind of painful. I kept the pen that I got--I don't hate it; I just wouldn't have intentionally bought it--but I've been reluctant to roll the dice since. The differences are just too dramatic, and sellers often warn in promo materials that they're not going to help you pick out one that you like, so...
Oh noooo! What a bummer. I have experienced this several times. The sprinkle milkshake Benu pen from Goulet was one that I returned because I couldn’t get over the difference in the one I received. I wish that all retailers would do like Goldspot did with this one and take some photos that include a bunch of pens with an array of patterns, so you at least know what the possibilities are! You’re right - it’s rolling the dice for sure. I wish I had a pen show closer, because I’d probably wait and buy a lot of my pens in person if I could!
I actually really want this pen but am afraid to order it in case I get too much green or blue. I would love it if I got a blank like yours

When I saw this on FPT I knew you were gonna end up with it….i just knew it. I want a Leonardo, but I’d have to buy it in person, too outside my comfort zone to spend that kinda $$$$& and not love it when it arrives
lol! You know me too well! I passed on this pen for a couple of days when it released because I was concerned about the resin. But then I couldn’t stand it and decided to give it a shot. I am not disappointed!
The scraping threads are a you problem. Tuey beed to be close so the pen oid will fit correctly
No need to be rude! I’ve owned a large number of fountain pens from many brands and makers, and this is the FIRST time I’ve noticed threads scraping the inside of the cap all the way around. It almost creates suction. Of course they need to be close to close tightly, but they don’t have to scrape 360° around the threads. Thankfully they’ve already worn down slightly with use and feel a bit better. Thanks!
I wonder if you can email pen sellers and ask them to send pics of stock so you can get your preference on the first try. It can’t be fun or productive for them either, having to deal with returns and unhappy customers etc. I bet they’d rather we communicated, especially on these expensive items. Sorry, but $200 is still expensive in my world. ❤
$200 is expensive - no apology needed! Some retailers are willing to work with you and send photos ahead of time, but others won’t - it’s a lot of work to open up lots of pens and try to take good photos and then back-and-forth with the customer. I didn’t ask Goldspot - I knew it would be luck-of-the-draw, and customers should go into this purchase knowing that. This is why I typically only buy handmade pens after they’re made instead of doing commissions. But yes, if you’re not willing to risk it, it can’t hurt to ask if a company will work with you!
