Well, glad you liked my upload of this. I almost lost this material through the tape becoming old, but was finally able to digitize it a few years back. I just reviewed it and remember that it was a busy trip, with a lot of locations visited! I hope to visit again and take some more video of the area. Thanks for the feedback! - LHS
@planetX15 Glad you liked it! Most of my old videos are of Tokyo, but I recorded some video while visiting Australia in 1992. Watching this now makes me want to visit again. Have things changed a lot? - LHS
I arrived in Melbourne (Tullamarine) in November 1991, to live in Ringwood. I think we went from the Tulla Freeway to the South Eastern Freeway, so we missed getting caught in Melbourne's traffic till we joined the Maroondah Highway at Mitcham. I remember that day, it was hot, really, really hot!
During my 1993 visit, I went to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Surfers Paradise and Cannes. Each city had (and has I'm sure) its charms, but Melbourne stood out in a way that's hard to pinpoint - I guess it seemed like the most European of the cities I visited?
sorry mate i should explain i have no site so i don't vidio i listen to sounds on youtube and your upload was fantastic. the city is so diferent now mutch more crowds
@@imhamish That must be why there is a roaring trade in people getting bollards installed on their driveways (to prevent carjackings). I have friends that used to live there, they say leaving Melbs was the best thing they ever did!
If I dig out the tape, I can find out, but after editing and posting this, I put in a box and a lot of other boxes have landed on top of that box over the last eight years, so I'm not sure when I'll find the time to dig through things and find out.... In any case, it was sometime in April 1992....
Melbourne was a very different city back then! It looks completely different now as it's had a bit of a boom - fastest growing city in Australia now and set to overtake Sydney in population in the future. The skyline looks quite different today. You can see that in my video of the Yarra river: ruclips.net/video/Qvh0kESSFTs/видео.html The trams you show were actually different to the ones they use today - especially now with the new rolling stock. One thing I would say is that there seems to be more people walking strangely enough. The volume of pedestrians crossing the road in front of your van was quite something. Impressive that you also took the Stony Point Line. Quite an impressive line it is too. There is another in Queensland that I recommend (Kuranda Railway up near Cairns). Sorry I actually missed this video previously! But it's certainly interesting to compare to what I see in 2015.
+Svartmetall Sverige! About the Kuranda Railway - I rode on that actually! I was lucky enough to experience the first class carriage with its original antique wooden interior - I understand they modernized it. At the time (in 1992) I remember talking with someone from the railway who was saying there was some controversy about whether to preserve that carriage or modernize it... apparently it wasn't so popular with tourists since they couldn't see the scenery as well as in the more open types. Here's the 1992 footage I took: 1992 Australia - Cairns - Kuranda Train Ride - Hotel - Etc. ruclips.net/video/z6NI7lCb1Ss/видео.htmlm4s
Lyle Hiroshi Saxon That's pretty cool! You know, we visited very similar places it seems. I also took the old antique train with wooden benches back in 2004 in fact on the Kuranda railway. Will definitely watch your footage now, thanks!
I love how you show the drive east out of Melbourne.....Out to Pakenham is all built-up and unrecognisable now

I haven't been back since I took this video... if you post videos of how it looks now, I'd like to see them (to see how it's changed).
you will love it if you come back.
the city has changed allot now from 1992 when i was 5
I hope to visit again someday, but I'm probably too old to emigrate.
No, I was just visiting. It looks like a nice place to live though.
Not these days, it's become a very violent place and will only get worse, unfortunately.
@@PsychicIsaacs Bullshit. Melbourne remains one of the safest and most liveable places in the world.

Thanks for reminding of that. I probably should edit that in with specific segments - it's got a bit much all lumped into one video as it is now.
Puffing Billy pulling into Belgrave Station!
And none of those kids EVER fell out of the train's windows! Amazing, isn't it?
I've only visited Australia twice - and this 1993 visit was the second of those. I hope to visit again.... Is that old steam train still puffing away?
