I feel though that it is contradictory as he says it is inviting you to be yourself in her nonjudgmental gaze and then talking about how it’s also a brutally honest dynamic. I don’t think he is wrong though, on one level life is inherently contradictory and it’s about finding your balance. I’m just pointing out that you need to navigate the subtleties of a relationship. This speech is absolutely beautiful but almost unattainable, a good ideal to look towards. I wonder if liberating love can’t be monogamous?

Brutal honesty can be non-judgmental, now it is exceedingly rare to experience it, but it's also true a lot of the judgements we perceive from others are only our own projections. For me, I simply couldn't believe her, believe that I was so perfect, that I was so lovely, when all I saw when I looked in the mirror was an ugly monster. In a way, I hated her for making me feel I was beautiful, I hated her for making me WANT to try. Almost as strongly as I enjoyed the feeling of her love, almost as much as I enjoyed returning it back... In the end, I fled from her and very quickly hit rock bottom. Let's be honest, there are times we realize that we did something stupid and wish someone would have been there to call us out on our BS and stop us from being a jackass. It is a really liberating feeling to being able to trust someone and give over control to someone else over yourself and come out as a better person in the end.
