Please don't shy away from SHINee or Jonghyun's solo songs because of that. We would love it if, after you've seen all of their group MVs, you ventured to all of their solos (all members have at least one solo MV each).
@danni _05 as someone who has loved them for over a decade, I ask that you give them a chance because they are worth it. Jjong's greatest gift to us is his music and he continues to be with us through it so I hope you can listen to it and appreciate it.

@danni _05 same here, but i listened to some of his songs as well as shinees and i feel like it would be a crime for me to not listen despite his early passing. I will look at it as god blessed us with a voice to hear before his passing.

In the clip with Minho and Melania, if u watch it back, you'll see that it was included not because he was standing next to her but because of the two girls standing in front of them. They both look calmly at Melania and then the one on the left (as we're watching) notices Minho, starts freaking out and points at him so her friend notices him as well. As soon as the second girl turns around and sees him she screams and freaks out. That's why Minho suddenly smiled with a surprised expression on his face.
So they were chill about meeting Melania but when they realized they were standing next to Minho chaos and fangirling ensued.

Great reaction. Jonghyun was very vocal about his struggles. He always spoke about it in interviews etc sharing with his fans and expressed a lot through his music. He was also actively seeking help and always encouraging and comforting people who had struggles of their own through his radio show Blue Night. Unfortunately he had depression for most of his life and things became too much for him even after doing everything he could to heal.
a psychiatrist in a tv show talk about it and she said that probably he had endogenous depression (that one is when your neurotransmisors are unbalanced) and its treated with therapy and meds, but nobody tell him that, he was just in therapy with a crazy professional.

I can't believe that it'll be the 3rd anniversary of Jonghyun's passing next month. It feels like it's been forever for me. His face and his voice are still freshly engraved in my mind and I still listen to his solo tracks. His last album that was released posthumously has so many vibrant, colorful songs, and the MV for "Shinin'" is also like that; his songs literally embody who he was as a person: a kind, beautiful, shining star, just a pretty soul, through and through.
it feels like its been forever but sometimes it also feels like it was only a few months ago... I love and miss him dearly but like you said his legacy will live on forever.

Depression is an illness, a disease...it doesn't matter if someone with depression has nice live, people who support him/her, happy environment, etc. It's just eating you up from inside out.
Jonghyun once said that being with SHINee helped him through it a lot...that was one of the best moment in his life.
When I heard Jonghyun's Heya after such a long its been like almost 6 months since I heard it last, I again was reminded how lucky we were to have such amazing vocals like its the best in the industry, and the regret that we lost such a amazing voice,amazing artist,amazing person will always be there in my heart..

i hope you don’t get scared away :( it was hard to listen to old songs and jonghyun’s solos for a while but his talent is INSANE and his music lives on.
SHINee and Shawols will always referred to in the present tense cause he will forever be in the hearts of SHINee and Shawols. We continue to cherish and remember him through his legacy, his works and comforting words. By always standing behind the boys, not only we get amazing comebacks but we also protect, care and provide strength to them to keep on doing what they love. Once you get to Our Page, a song the boys wrote for Jonghyun (in their last comeback before leaving for military), its about them continuing to carry on and fulfilling the dreams all five of them had when they were little boys. Their songs always touches your heart differently both the upbeat ones and also their incredible ballads. Of course their live stages are entirely on a different galaxy ( I always prefer those live stages over their amazing MVs). You're so in for an epic ride!
I miss our Bling Bling Jonghyun. To think about it, actually Jonghyun really open up about his depression. He talked about it on social media, variety shows, wrote a book, went to psychiatrist, unfortunately they didn't believe him and take it lightly. And what make me feel so sad is we are too late to notice him😭
Thank you for talking about Jonghyun like that. Without criticizing. But the thing is he tried. He said, he wrote songs about it and and talk about it in radio show as well. also wrote a book. But somehow it happened like that. He may end up trying everything. Things end like that. Unfortunately
SHINee are a group I found home in. Honestly besides the music they are all lovely human beings. As for jonghyun everyone misses him terribly but I know he is happier where he is. Gym helped me a lot too I can relate to what you mentioned. It’s kept me stable. Looking forward to rest of your content :)

SHINee will always be in my heart, they were the first group I followed since debut. I will always be so proud of them and so thankful that I’ve been able to follow them for years. December is not easy despite it me and my sister’s birthday month.
And yes Please don’t shy away from Jonghyuns solo music, his vocals are magnificent and they shouldn’t be missed.

@danni _05 yah his therapist bluntly told him that he is the problem and he wrote it in his last farewell letter which kills me and afflicts pain in my soul. Like even when he asked for help he was still refused.

going to see a doctor for mental health is a HUGE step, because most of the time suffering is very easy to hide because it’s mental. it means you’re really desperate for change. to hear that after you made such a huge step must of been shattering. mental health professionals need to be better trained, it’s absolutely unbelievable what they said
They have a great discography. Group. Individual. OST. omg so much and so good. Love Like Oxygen was the 1st SHINee song I heard and fell in love and was the 1st fandom I became part of. Love the meaning of your tattoo.
How to pronounce their names:
Onew: o-new
Jonghyun: jong (jong) hyun (hyon)
Key
Minho: Min-ho (the h is faint but not silent)
Taemin: tae (teh) min (you've been saying tay instead of teh, like most english speaking reactors)
Jonghyun is more like: Jonghyån
(Å is pronounced the same as 어 and yå is the same as 여)

Jonghyun has a bunch of ballad songs. From him or the songs he made for other artists, such as Lee Hi- breath, jonghyun- end of the day, Taeyon snsd ft. Jonghyun- lonely. We miss him so much. If you heard the song that he made, you’d know the struggle that he have 😿😿
Actually, "Lonely" is Jonghyun's song and Taeyeon is the featured artist. That is why Jonghyun is the one in the MV and we only hear Taeyeon's voice in the song.

Oh, finally! I've been waiting for something like this since you heard Replay, it just seemed like SHINee would be the perfect group for you so it's been worth the wait - confirmed when you listened to Sherlock/Juliette. When your eyes lit up listening to Shift, haha! I feel like 1 of 1 may be your favourite album but they're all so incredible, amped up to 200 when you get to watch the lives! What amazes me (among countless things) about SHINee is how distinctive their voices are but how beautifully they blend together - you can listen to any SHINee song and pick out not just the verses and choruses but even the ad-libs to figure out which member is singing what.
Have a beautiful time on this journey, I hope you'll get to join us in falling in love with the boys and their music too! SHINee really does have their own sound and does a bit of everything - their longevity shows how diverse they've been with their genres. I can't wait for you to get to know them all better too! Their variety appearances are top-notch, they're so funny with each other and can really give and take with the hosts!
I hope you'll get to listen to Jonghyun's music too and not just Taemin's. I feel like new fans may feel a bit guarded about getting into his music (I'm a pretty new Shawol myself), but his brilliance deserves to be remembered. He left behind such an incredible legacy with his music and presence that should be celebrated with joy. His music is so beautiful and fun too - he was so witty with his lyrics! SHINee are the ultimate performers, I'm so excited for you.

U should check out ' A not so unhelpful guide to shinee'. This guide definitely covers more of the shinee members individuals activites including their acting works. So for minho, key, onew u will be able to see differenr sides of them. Also, it covers each member equally well and highlights their strengths. This is honestly a guide that isnt skewed towards any members
Actually, in my opinion, if you want to know the members more individually, you should check out the Very SHINee Intro videos for each of the members which were also created by the same person that made this "Very SHINee Guide" and they created all of the individual guides in the last few months, so they are the most up to date of all the guides out there. I find it often leaves new reactors asking a lot of questions and not understanding the point of some of the clips. I suggest saving "An (un)helpful guide to SHINee" for after he has gotten to know the members and their personalities better. I find that guide much more enjoyable for people after they become a shawol because they understand why certain clips are supposed to be funny, etc.:D

Just so you know, Rntb is a typo, it should say "SHINee is an R&B boy group." SHINee are known for their R&B style of music.
SHINee's fandom is SHINee World and for short we mashup the two words and it becomes Shawol for short (pronounced like Shy-wall in English or Show-all)
May 25, 2020, was SHINee's 12th anniversary. So SHINee are part of the second generation of Kpop and yet they are younger than most everyone in their generation and are the same age or even younger than most other groups, such as EXO and BTS, etc. which are part of Kpop's third generation. SHINee debuted young and have the experience of seasoned veterans. It just goes to show you why they are legends in the industry.
When SHINee debuted in 2008 Onew -- real name Lee Jinki -- (lead vocalist) was 18 (Onew is pronounced like Oh-New, which means or sounds like the characters that mean soft or gentle in Korean. He was given the stage name Onew because of his calm and gentle personality which makes him an amazing leader), Jonghyun (the main vocalist and songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14,.
So now after more than 12 years, they are all in their late 20's and early 30s. Onew will be 31 in December, Key just turned 29 in September, Minho will be 29 in December and Taemin just turned 27 in July. SHINee are still young, and yet, they are some of the most well respected artists in the industry.
The reason why the audience screams so loud and Onew cries during this performance of "Rainy Blue" is because this was Onew's first solo performance since having vocal surgery. It was a really scary surgery because there was no guarantee that he would ever be able to sing again, let along at the same quality as he did before the surgery. Onew spent about 3 months after his surgery not being able to speak at all in order to give his vocal cords time to heal and then he had to learn to sing all over again. This performance was proof to himself and the fans that he could still do it and that nothing had changed.
And, yes, Taemin plays the piano, and it's performances like this where he gets the nickname as our eternal maknae vampire. :D Some of the time. In certain performances and MVs the way Taemin is dressed and the whole aesthetic of the video or stage, such as in this "Rain Blue" performance, really does give off vampire vibes.
One of the reasons why Key chose to come up with funny answers for that questionnaire is the fact that this Weekly Idol episode was part of their 10th anniversary promotions and so they have been on the show many times and had to fill out that same questionnaire almost every time, and they have answered those same questions dozens of more times for other variety shows. So, after that many years, it has become boring just to give a straight answer. They often try to come up with clever and funny answers to give them things to talk about and to create comedic moments in the show. What's particularity notable about the fact that Key said he is from New York, is the fact that he is fluent in English -- almost to the point you would think he is a native speaker. So, if you didn't know him, you might think he really was from New York.
The amazing thing about Key's high note in "Like a Fire" is that if you listen to the original version on their album, he doesn't have a high note in that song. But during that performance, which is from their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul, he, out of nowhere, decided he wanted to add a high note. It's almost as if he decided he wanted to try and outdo Jonghyun who is the group's high note master and the one who has the high note right before Key in the song. :D That's Key's classic diva attitude.
One slight error in this guide: Minho is actually the MAIN rapper of the group and Key is a sub-rapper. (To say Minho is the second rapper makes it sound like he isn't the one that raps the majority of the time in SHINee's songs.) Minho is credited with writing almost all of his rap sections in SHINee songs, which is proof that he is the main rapper. Minho will have songwriting credits on almost every one of SHINee's songs because he wrote the rap section.
Also, Minho more than sings SOMEtimes, he sings just about as much as he raps in SHINee songs. He has the deepest voice out of all the members -- which is why he was made the main rapper -- so SHINee's songs don't often highlight his singing in the same way as the other members, but he is part of all of SHINee's harmonies. Also, by virtue of the fact that he is part of SM, means he also has an amazing voice. When you really get to know SHINee, you will see Minho has just as much vocal range as the rest of the members, and that is why SHINee's five-part harmonies are so outstanding.
That is also Minho's classic iconic laugh. He laughs with his whole being and he lights up the room while doing it. In that same clip, Jonghyun fell down because, if you see that full clip, you will see that Minho was spraying water with a spray bottle and the floor was all wet. Before Jonghyun walked in the room the other members were playing around sort of making fun of a commercial they did for a Japanese ramen noodle company where they were each given a different dance move that they used to crush the noodles. SHINee's cover of Lady Gaga's "Just dance" was a special stage at a KBS award show in 2010. Here is the clip of that performance. ruclips.net/video/VsFMUnFqiK4/видео.html They were dressed like that because they were supposed to be dressed like Lady Gaga's over the top crazy style.
if you notice, that last clip of SHINee playing charades, and Taemin trying to guess "suitcase," was at a fan meeting in Japan. So, they were all speaking Japanese. As you can see, SHINee are all fluent in Japanese. They are just as popular as Japanese artists as they are Kpop artists. Most Japanese people don't even consider them foreign artists. SHINee debuted as Japanese artists in 2011 and they spends about 50% of their career in Japan doing events and concerts, etc. For every Korean album SHINee also has a Japanese album, but their songs aren't just remakes of their Korean songs, the majority of their Japanese songs are exclusively in Japanese. And that also includes Taemin's solo career -- for every Korean solo album, he usually follows it up with a Japanese album, as well.
And yes, Obama actually talked about following SHINee at a press conference while he was president of the United States. That clip is 100% real.
This Guide video was made in 2018, so to update the information, yes the other members of SHINee -- Onew, Key and Minho -- now also have solo careers. Onew and Key had their solo debut right before they went off to the military in 2018 and they both have solo albums. Minho also released his first solo single "I'm Home" that same year, right before he enlisted in the military as well.

I'm sorry you went through tough times but I'm glad you overcame it. I started listening to kpop in 2014 and honestly didn't listen to SHINee much until Jonghyun released his album SHE IS. It was so good and made me take a second look at SHINee. He really was one of the biggest talents in kpop so it was a huge shock for all kpop fans when the news of his passing came out. It was also a difficult time for his fellow SM family. Suho was close to him and still is close to Minho because they trained together. I remember EXO attended to the funeral and the next day had to fly for a concert abroad where Suho sang EXO's Playboy that is written by Jonghyun. Anyway I hope you check out his She is and Lonely MVs because for me they show the two sides he had: a fun bright personality and a vulnerable introspective personality.

Yes D, one of my favorite groups along with SuJu that were THEE hippest groups together, they were all singers, musicians, songwriters, and fashion icons, not to mention spoke different languages and well known actors, kind of like Exo....very talented, superior vocals.....Jonghyun, it's still hard for me...he was my bias...
the sparkling voice resonates in my brain and those solo performances I will never forget, etched in my brain for life, unforgettable, impactful, full of emotion, only Chen comes close, because there are not many groups who are musicians and songwriters with mesmerizing vocals around like back then.....my
yes, we have fantastic groups coming out every year, the talent is endless.....but Shinee's older bops and beautiful ballads, I have them all with me...Onew, singing "Nessun Dorma", the world's most famous aria, for which I learned Italian in school to sing and understand that song and many others, he sang it like a pro....Key the rapper who can sing, I thought was a cutie pie and loved his smile, he sometimes looked serious and intimidating, remind me of D.O. or Suga,.....and Minho I was in love with because of his dramas, especially "To the Beautiful You" which I watched 3 times over the year...I'm glad they did their service, now maknae Taemin's turn, in hope's of a reuniting in the future...if only🙏💙🌺

Jonghyun actually talked a lot to his boss about this problem but since SM Entertainment doesn’t want to provide mental help to their artists he couldn’t get help... then he turned to write songs about his depression and he talked to his friends about it but he never wanted to make himself a “bad person”...
and I just want to say that I totally agree with you on finding even the smallest things to keep you going!
I have more to add that I forgot to write. Jonghyun actually did have a therapist but SM Entertainment wanted to keep it hidden. The therapist told Jonghyun that he was the cause of all his pain. He believed this to be true because he had thought that himself

He did seek for help, but no one take it seriously especially therapist but I could say that to open up his mind, have to be done by him. It was such pity that we all realized it quite late. He wrote every of his feelings in this songs all written in the lyrics.:'(

Being recent Shawol, I don't think I've watched this A Very Shinee Guide haha.. But I've seen most of the clips. I've known them for such a long time though I can't even remember what my first impression of them was and never had problem remembering their names. I just wanna say that he reach for help, he visited a psychiatrist or psycologist, i dont remember, and this "professional" keep blaming him for feeling what he felt. He had a radio show where he talk a lot about his issues and of other people who reach for someone to listen. He is the best

He died from carbon monoxide poisoning and in all of the songs he wrote he told about it also he told therapists and drs and noone listened to him he acted happy and fine on stage but he hid the pain and depression which i wish his members couldve helped him with but i feel like they were the only ones he didnt talk to 😕😔so they still blame them selves and did for a long time im very glad that they renewed their contract though
