I read many reviews and procrastinated for 3 years before I decided to buy the Battenkill III Disc. Finally get it in front of me today and I ask myself, " I wonder if there's a RUclips video on this....". If I saw this vid three years ago, I would've bought it then; you were great! LOL!
Nice review. My Hatch 2 would randomly free spool since I bought it. Sent it in twice for repair and it still is the same. So I decided to replace it with the Battenkill II disc reel. My first day with this reel it handled trout from 13" to 19" flawlessly on my Scott G Series 4W rod. Perfect match up. Very smooth retrieve and drag. It has a handsome finish and a classic look. It also costs about $275 less than my Hatch, which will BTW get sent back for it's third repair. Then it will become my backup to the Battenkill (or I will sell/trade it).
I could hardly hear it. Hope the editor can take it back into his editing program and UP the sound, a bunch so that the next fishermen can hear more of what Tom had to say. Thanks...
Does the standard IV and the Spey IV carry the same spool? I'm looking for a spare spool for the spey version, but all the German online stores seem to offer only the standard ones.
Really bad review. Why are you afraid of the reels? I want you to pickup each reel and crank it forward and backwards so we can clearly HEAR the difference in reels. If you are going to review reels, here is a proper check list. 1. Where are they made and who makes them? 2. material made of? plastic, composite, die cast, aluminum CNC milled, other. And what type of finishes and color available ? 3. Drag design - sealed, unsealed, cork, etc. 4. Drag resistant pull in pounds 5. Spool design 6. Handle material and length 7. SOUND??? Click or Silent? Click on retrieval or outgoing line? Let people hear the real and action. 8. Type of use? Freshwater, Saltwater, both; etc 9. Extras that come with it? spools, backing, cases, extra handles, tools, parts; etc 10. Maintenance and greasing if need and frequency? 11. warranties and any clauses on warranties(fees for mailing stuff in)? 12. Type and size of arbor? 13. Pickup rate of spool? 14. Weight of reel? 15. Suggested line weights and line? 16. Extra purchases available? Engraving, custom paint job? 17. Know complained about defects, such as the spool randomly falling out while walking or fishing or drag jams🤔🤔🤔. 18. Appreciation of reel if any? What is the reel worth now vs. 10 or 20 years ago? Basically, does it hold it’s value over time. Which reels have gone up most in value? For example a 20 dollar Pflueger Medalist bought 30 years ago is now 140-160 bucks🤯 19. Is this reel paired with a matching rod by the manufacturer for a discounted price? Example: the Clearwater. 20. amount of suggested backing and line
Own 2 of these and really love it. Basically impossible to find a reel of this quality at this price point. The design is perfect for any rod too.

Love this video. Like the reel a lot. Trying to decide on this reel or Mirage LT.

I cannot find that Battenkill disc V reel anywhere. I can find the spey reel but not the regular V
which size would you get to pair with a 6wt rod, with 6wt line?
thanks for the info
bring back the IV-V click spey reels.
What did you say could not hear a thing
where exactly are they made?
made in china, like all things
Instructions for mirage spool removal are poor. Orvis needs to make a video that shows step by step.
Have Orvis invest in a lapel mic. so we can hear you -
Audio is terrible
Can I get one for free pls?
no
