A tip for perfect alignment: You don't need to zoom in to align elements to the artboard. There are vertical and horizontal align options in the options bar at the top (when an element is selected). Just choose "Align to artboard" from the drop-down and it will enable one-click alignment. Cheers!

Thank you Erin for a tutorial with actual speech in it. I can't tell you what a monumental waste of time it is constantly having to wade through all the videos where the presenter just wants to play music at me. Honestly RUclips needs to come up with a way to categorize videos between talkes and silent / no talk. Save millions of us tons of time. I sifted through 6 or 7 videos before I came across yours.

You can type 11/3 in the width bar instead of calculating it and then entering it there.

Thanks for the helpful video Erin! I'm on my way to making a brochure. A friend pointed out that you could also use the Rectangular Grid Tool to make the three boxes. That way you can align the whole shape to the art board in one shot. :) Keep up the awesome tips (please)!

There is a shortcut to make or copy an object ctrl+d it copies an object which you copied before. Thanks for the tutorial

your logo is just superb
to move all you do is have to hit return on a Mac or enter on a PC to bring up the move tool dialog box...then you put in your 3.66 Horizontal and 0 Vertical and then click copy.....then hit command D or control D to duplicate that move as many times as you need. Save your time with shortcuts!

What I did was create a shape with the same dimensions of the artboard (exclude the bleed), and then selected Objects > path > Split into Grid, from the top menu. Then a dialog box appears and you just type how many columns you want, in this case I said three, and then check the add guides checkbox to add guides where it intersects. Its quicker than reading it :-). Just want to know if this is also a correct way of doing it?
This would be the most efficient and accurate way

Unfortunately Erin, most tri fold brochures are roll fold/letter fold.
The back panel folds inside the front & middle panel.
It is therefore necessary to make allowance for this.
If the panels are all the same size, the panel that folds into the other two will not fit properly.
This does not apply to a “Z” fold, where all panels can be the same.

How do you prepare for print? Like the right pannels (inside spread) how does it print out? Do you have to combine them with adhesives? Or do i print two sided?
@Katie Paul I believe the word you will see in your print screen will be "collate". That will print it using one sheet of paper with print on both sides.

The control, shift, alt isn't working for me. It just moves those three boxes to the other artboard, not copy and paste

When I want to send it to a printing place, how to I set it up to indicate where it needs to be folded. I sent something like this to a printer and they asked for fold marks...

yes, you're right. It's actually the center page that's smaller, exactly by the amount she was off by in the video. The correct way of drawing the folds is to divide your total width of 11 inches by 3, take away ⅛ inch from the inside panel, and add half that to the other two. The result will be two panels that are 3.68 inches and one panel that's 3.62 inches.

Hello my dear and respectable teacher... I have a question....
Question is! Can I start our design from the read line... Or tell me what is the aims of bleed...
The red bleed line indicates the 1/8" bleed. Bleed is a printing term that is used to describe a document which has images or elements that touch the edge of the page, extending beyond the trim edge and leaving no white margin. When a document has bleed, it must be printed on a larger sheet of paper and then trimed down. We add bleed to print designs so that JUST IN CASE the trimming isn't perfect, they have a little wiggle room so that there won't be any white left.
Everything between the edge of your document and the red bleed line will get cut off when trimmed after printing.
Not sure this is a good template to follow, the folds are not all the same size. The cover fold should be slightly wider, the inside folded panel (left), the one that "folds into the middle" should be slightly shorter width wise to accommodate folding inward, better to grab a template from the print vendor you're sending the art file to, or get dimensions from online

one fold should be bigger, or else the trifold would never fold properly.
My God!! Okay, first.. you can just reflect it horizontally making a copy of it instead of moving and typing the exact size. Second, when you make a 3fold brochure you have to consider the fact that one of the panels should have smaller width due to the fact it is going to be folded into the middle (100mmX100mmX97mm).. And third, you can just drag and drop a guide from the ruler and position it wherever you want ( on the artboard) by typing the exact position in "transform x/y"panel instead of converting shapes into guides... These are some basic beginner tips... I really have no idea why you do it the way you do it.

Lady, never start a video tutorial sounding like you're attending a funeral, and apologizing for not creating a video for a while. I watched this video in 2021, first time I've even heard of you so how am I to know you haven't done a video in a while? This destroys so much credibility on your part in my opinion. "I want to show you quickly...." More than nine minutes of a video is not "quickly." Tutorial finally starts at 1:05. Also do your division of the 11/3 BEFORE you start your video so no one hears you struggling with finding the width of the thirds. Finally (because I just couldn't watch any more after 3:41), let's HEAR you. You sound like you're exhausted, and your voice drifts away leading to nearly whispering some of the instructions. I wish this was better because I was really looking forward to a decent tutorial.
