We have watched our parent's generation tolerate all sorts of things for love. That's just not going to happen with most people in our generation. I think it's fair for anyone to select a partner on the basis of what they need. In the kind of world we live in today, having similar belief systems and ideologies definitely goes a long way.

Having a companion who believes in equal rights for women and minorities is not a "complex" issue. I being a man would also like to hang out and feel safe with people who believe in equal rights for women and minorities.

The very fact that at an epistemological level we are at a position where our foundational understanding of reality and something as transcendental and corporeal as love has to be tethered to this schismatic binary and dichotomisation of being "progressive" and having "shared humanity" goes to show how mimetic thought process has become in postmodernist zeitgeist, love is something that is a transcendental noumena and not subject to utilitarian imperatives. Anyways this thinking is just a remananent of anthropomorphic hubris.
