That pianist really adds to this performance as well, especially at the ending. Superb all around.
finally someone acknowledging the pianist, lol!! cheers! (a fellow pianist here!)
I need the pianist's part to play myself.
Any ideas where to get it?
Yes!!! I was a vocal and piano major. I’m itching to play this version!!!! I LOVE THIS
yes the pianist was just life
@Cynthia Erivo I'm from Jamaica, you should visit sometime
She is one of those people who were born to be a star
Exactly.
@Cynthia Erivo If this is really you, I would like to add my appreciation to you. I had not heard of you until Strictly and I've looked up every YT of you. Aretha gave you her crown
Now, she's literally gonna fly in the Wicked movie.
INSANE. plus her broadway body is just as fierce as her belt
Leo Carmody regine velasquez sang this song far better
Regine fans are obnoxious . Stop making everything about her, troll.
@@Rosannasfriend shut up idiot
Is that last note a D5? Or E5?
@@darylmilan and barbra did it better so stfu
I would watch the hell out of a West African version of Yentl.
Or they could just cast her
Liam Gaine you’re right. I’d still pay to see it.
It’d be cool if she could play an Ethiopian Jew
Liam Gaine There must be other cultures where traditionally only the boys could get an education -the story would work with any of those.
@@liamgaine why not? Any play requires a suspension of disbelief. If you can watch a bunch of people running around a stage pretending to be in a field, and not think it looks rather silly, you should be able to watch a black woman play a polish Jew. What matters is the talent that makes you buy it. If the emotion is there and the message is there, the cosmetics don't matter a bit. Barbra didn't look like a boy in a single frame of the movie and yet it doesn't distract from all the sorrow, the pain, the anger and the joy the movie brings.
lord she serving arms honey, I'm jealous.
It's crazy because she's singing as though she's just talking! Making it look so easy and effortless. I also saw her in TCP and was so excited when she won her Toby award as it was truly deserved. Her rendition of 'I'm here' hits me every time without fail.
*Tony award
It sent chills through my whole body watching the Tonys. I really hope they released a soundtrack for this cast like they did when Daniel Radcliffe did "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying". I wish he'd do more Broadway...
It's Tony award not 'Toby'.
@@Patrick11030 look above your comment. I corrected my auto correct mistake 4 years ago
I love when she hits the high "sky" note. her body lifts up and it's just perfect.
By a mile, the most talented person to stand on a broadway stage! Her voice is surreal, Her as Celie in TCP is a must see performance.
you know when there are just some songs that shouldn't be touched?? well Cynthia once again has proved me wrong...she really is incredible!!
@Cynthia Erivo nice try we all know you're a fake acc
Where does a voice like that come from?? She channels five voices at once...extraordinary.
0:40 even at this mistake, she doesn't let it affect her and it is very subtle. cynthia is absolutely incredible and gives us a beautiful piece!
Cynthia Erivo for World Domination.
she managed to give a stellar performance with only a piano and her voice. This song's power derives also from the arrangement written for a full orchestra, could have been a disaster with only a piano. She's amazing.
She is something else. Stunning. Go see her in the color purple! Most wonderful performance I've ever seen!
+John Turner Agreed truly stunning , blew me away
Right!
I'd give a vital organ to be able to see her and her original cast of TCP today.
I just can't stop looking at her buffed arms. She even beats Michelle Obama!! GREAT!
And Angela Bassett in What's Love Got to Do With It.
+Copa Enxuto haha that's all I could look at
+DaTeamMinaj oh yea her too!
Regine Velasquez sang it better
Herminia Soliman De Guzman wtf.
I had never heard of her until i saw the Color Purple for the first time in February and i was COMPLETELY captivated by her performance. I couldn't believe that someone so incredible had gone unnoticed (at least in the US) for so long! And on top of being such a phenomenal performer, she seems like such a genuine and down to earth human being and i love her even more for it! I can't wait to see what great things her future holds because I, and basically everyone else who has heard her sing before, will be throwing all of my love and support her way!
you might also watch a version of regine velasquez
+charissemarcia A Great British talent!
+Craig Contel strangely enough, I do know that song and was OBSESSED with it when I first saw that movie, but I didn't put the two together in my head until I saw her in TCP 😂😂 I was like "hummmm her voice sounds REALLY familiar....". So not only is she a talented vocalist, she's also an amazing songwriter!
This performance killed me and then resurrected me :')
Cake Slate then try Regine Velasquez's version so you can rest in peace forever.
All I can say is, I simply love me some Cynthia Erivo ❤❤❤
I literally started crying, uncontrollably. Absolutely incredible
Cynthia was born to sing. Without a doubt! 💜🎤
this. why is this not viral. this is everything i've ever needed in life.
She was giving so many outstanding moments, the audience applause just kept coming!
Trying to watch this over until it stops giving me chills! I'm up to 27!
People don’t understand how hard this song is to sing and she slayed this.
Especially for someone like Barbra Streisand who carried that last note for around 40 seconds. I'll give it to Cynthia Erivo who did what she could to keep up.
So proud to have followed this girl from the start. First show. And now Broadway. 6 WEEKS TONIGHT
Tell me where
Where is it written
What is it I meant to be?
That I can't dare...
It all began the day I found..
That from my window I could only see
A piece of sky.
I stepped outside and looked around.
I never dreamed it was so wide
Or even half as high.
The time had come
(Papa, can you hear me?)
To try my wings
(Papa, are you near me?)
And even thought it seemed at any moment I could fall,
I felt the most,
(Papa, can you see me?)
Amazing things,
(Can you understand me?)
The things you can't imagine
if you've never flown at all.
Though it's safer to stay on the ground,
Sometimes where danger lies
There the sweetest of pleasures are found.
No matter where I go,
There'll be memories that tug at my sleeve,
But there will also be
More to question, yet more to believe..
Oh tell me where?
Where is the someone who will turn and look at me?
And want to share
My ev'ry sweet-imagined possibility?
The more I live - the more I learn.
The more I learn - the more I realize
The less I know.
Each step I take -
(Papa, I've a voice now!)Each page I turn -
(Papa, I've a choice now!)Each mile I travel only means
The more I have to go.
What's wrong with wanting more?
If you can fly - then soar!
With all there is - why settle for
just a piece of sky?
Papa, I can hear you...
Papa, I can see you...
Papa, I can feel you...
Papa, watch me fly!
That 6 pack doe
Lol I thought I was the only one who seen it...😂
I just witness artistry !! She is a ☆
My GOOOOOOOODNEEESSSS! SHE'S LIKE SINGING IT IN EXCHANGE OF HER LIFE! *AMAZING*
The woman NEVER MISSES!!! She could sing ring around the Rosie and bring tears to my eyes!
I'm grateful that I get to live at the same time as this amazing human being called Cynthia Erivo.
STUNNING VOCAL!
I've seen this great British talent singing in the West End loads and I have always been obsessed. Am glad she is now famous. She is true lot talented .
Hallelujah. Praise God for a great talent.
Wow! the ending!
I watched the movie Yentl because of this performance! lol!
Amazing......living proof that there are still great singers out. She has a new fan.
Every once in a while I come back to appreciate this performance (and especially the pianist!)
I just can't stop listening to this, not only is the voice so beautiful but the performance is so genuine. I am so lucky to have seen this today.
SING LIL SISTA SAENG !!! chills of awe !
This pops up in my feed every six months or so and I have to watch it about a dozen times, then I can move forward with the rest of my life.
I'm...I'm...speechless it was so beautiful.
This is fantastic!!!
i feel really bad for whoever had to go after her.
lolol
😂😂😂
Nile Andah I was just thinking, “Tell me she was the final performance because NO ONE would want to follow that!” Amazing.
god!!!her voice so gentle also so powerful.
Woaaaah. Her voice is perfection -- her outfit is awesome and cool and contemporary -- and holy fuck check out her torso when she belts out those last few lines! I hope we can keep Cynthia Erivo around for a bit.
That was really beautiful. I had the privilege of seeing her in The Color Purple on Broadway and she was incredible. I honestly went to see Jennifer Hudson, who was also spectacular. But the bonus of discovering how special Cynthia is made that night even more memorable. It really was a privilege to see her perform live.
I can't wait to hear her in Wicked...she's amazing
Awesome!
Blown away!!!!
Too much love for this woman and her humble self!
One of my favorite songs ever - and you nailed it!

Got chills abt to cry lol. 💜 Definitely blessed to perform and sing. God bless you.
I love her beautiful voice, the way she emotes, and how puts her hair, makeup, and clothes together. And when she speaks at concerts, she is really sincere and thoughtful. Just an elegant person all around.
Thank you for singing my most favorite songs.

MY GOOOOOODNEEESSSSSS This performance, such a challenging song to do.
I'm in awe every time I watch Cynthia Erivo sing and this is no exception. Her own rendition of Barbra Streisand's famous song, " A Piece of Sky," is phenomenal and masterful. I can't wait to watch her in " Wicked," the movie.
This woman is just wow!!!!
My GOD! She is AMAZING!
