I wrote Cynthia an email via her manager this past summer. I'm not sure if she ever got it because she was in the middle of The Color Purple, and I know how it gets when an actor is in the zone. But when Pulse happened, it really got me in the gut, a constant wave of insecurity and fear and sadness. At 31, it brought me back to being a young child, bullied and suicidal. All I could listen to for weeks afterward was her rendition of "I'm Here." It was really healing, and I was happy to see her play Celie before the show ended. Thank you, Cynthia, if you ever see this. You really embody the healing power of music and art.

Our healing is a long and ongoing process. Never ending really. I'm old enough to be your Father, and all the scars and wounds of my youth were ripped open with the Pulse shooting. I know I don't have to explain this to you and others who felt the same thing. Be at peace sweet man and know that you are never alone.

I saw her in 'Bad times at the El Royale' and thought her voice was sweet. The more I listen, the more I want to hear! Sweet isn't a good enough description. Savory, amazing, gorgeous, calculated, poised, strong, powerful, beautiful!
I remember seeing Cynthia perform at the Tony awards singing "I'm here" after the Orlando massacre and bawled my eyes out at how poignant that song was at that time. She is such an incredible woman and I wish I could see her in more having only seen her in sister act near the beginning of her career. Her voice amazes me and always gets me emotional

👏 WOW - what a 👍 great 🎤 ‘cover’ of an “older’, yet well known, classic song from the past! I’m going on 70 now, and grew up hearing Lennon’s original on the radio almost every single day. But truth be told, I never really cared for it until hearing Cynthia’s rendition in this performance. IMO she’s a gifted 🎁, talented vocalist, and sings with so much emotion and passion that it spreads to my own 💖 and soul. * Although I only ‘discovered’ Cynthia about a week ago, I’ve since been listening to/watching much more of her. IDR how I even came across her name - most likely in a duet with someone else known to me. Regardless, I’m very pleased to have discovered this gem 💎!
