    In some of your painting pieces, you talk about using pulp paper for the base. Would you ever consider doing a video about how to make one of these? Thank you in advance

    Why using the toothpick instead of a brush with fine point to dot the bumps in the carapace?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic  5 лет назад +1

      It's very damaging to the bristles and a toothpick doesn't deform when you press down.

      A tile allows for proper control of thinning the paint.

    So I have a question for you. I have a white paint from Vallejo, and this is the only paint color I have that did this but did any of your Vallejo paints separate so bad that even after 30 seconds of shaking it, it still came out super runny? Like the pigment was completely separated from the liquid and wouldn't get back to being paint.

    • @charlottegale4810
      @charlottegale4810 5 лет назад

      Dusk Wolf I’ve had that, shaking hard for literally a few of minutes helped a bit for me, but I know it’s not a great solution

    • @andrewamann8855
      @andrewamann8855 5 лет назад +2

      Toss in a couple of stainless steel BBs, and shake the bajeesus out of it... Alternatively, make the switch to using an acrylic artist ink, which has a much higher pigment density, at the cost of a fairly steep learning curve.

    • @CosmicDuskWolf
      @CosmicDuskWolf 5 лет назад +1

      @@andrewamann8855 Thanks. It was really wired that it was only ever the one color of paint that has ever happened to me. None of my other paints ever did that. I'll have to try some artist Inc's. Though do they work well with a brush?

    • @andrewamann8855
      @andrewamann8855 5 лет назад +2

      @@CosmicDuskWolf a good white paint is really hard to find, and what you're describing isn't all that uncommon, believe it or not. As for using ink with a brush, I've been getting a lot of good results, personally, but it takes a fair bit of finesse to get decent results with it. That said, pure whites aren't really something that you're going to be painting frequently, at smaller scales, but that's starting to dive deeper into color theory, which, whilst really useful, is a lot more than I would care to dive into whilst killing time on my phone waiting for BattleBots to start...
      Best hobby/art advice that I can give you is this: pick up stuff that sparks your curiosity, and play with it. Broadening your skills, tools, and experience is key to getting really good at all of this, and the sheer variety of different applications that float around the community now, compared to just a decade ago, and options abound to get the results that you want to see on your minis.

    • @CosmicDuskWolf
      @CosmicDuskWolf 5 лет назад +1

      @@andrewamann8855 I mean I don't use white a lot, except when it fits the color scheme I'm going for and I barely use regular white, but still use it also I use it to mix with bone for eyes to give a more realistic eye color. Thanks for the tips though about the inc. Sometimes I don't really care about color theory especially when it's said that purple and yellow look good together. I never thought they did. I definitely paint purple with just about any other color out there.

    This is one of the potential problems with fantasy monsters; there comes a point where even the "cool" factor and the fantasy, magic aesthetic fail and you can't help but wonder: what the hell were they thinking? For me this monster falls squarely into that category; its like they couldn't decide if they wanted it to avian, insectile or mammalian so they just started mashing parts on and slapping on bony spikes because that makes everything seem more badass. And honestly, considering that this things native environment is underground the blue and purple in the artwork don't really seems to make much sense either. If I remember correctly, the older artwork depicted it as more more insectile in nature and it had a sort of sickly khaki and bone white coloration, not that that would have necessarily made it any more fun to paint but it may have at least left some obvious signs of ways to improve it. All in all, I think you did a good job interpreting the artwork and then integrating your own touches.

      @@ThePaintingClinic The original is definitely cool, but I'm gonna have to lean towards the 2e version because it looks like a horrible bird/roach demon thing that looks ready to gut me and plant some eggs in my corpse. Absolutely badass.
