As much as I love the wood and your skills on the lathe are superb.......the item itself just strikes me of something you’d pick up in a charity shop.

With such a beautiful piece of wood, the nice simple design was a good choice... there’s enough detail in that wood grain to keep the eye busy.

Yes. You're right. The grain is really outstanding. Human imagination in fact stays much lower than the activities, the movements of the NATURE. Here from this wooden grain, I nearly see a volcano, or even the Earth, in its moving with fire, lava, and some beings amid their distress... Really getting thrilled, and learnt.

This is old. But I just love Cherry so much. This is a really good one. There are lots of beautiful types of wood in the world, but I think that I've had more chunks of Cherry that turn out to be special than any other species.

Sometimes you hit the jackpot with wood grain and coloring. This is one of those times. It's like when I get an axe handle with some curl in it, it just makes me giddy 🤣

Beautifully done. It looks like there are 2 baby birds in a nest at the bottom of the vase. I love what can be found in a piece of wood.

WOW WHAT A GREAT PIECE WHAT KIND OF WOOD
It's Cherry!
Thanks Gary, it’s a small brach of cherry that has the beginnings of a pretty fantastic burl. The burl growth has caused the heartwood and sap wood to kind of mingle so as I cut back through the wood I was able to capture a pretty spectacular pattern, the search for a nice pattern on the wood forced the shape of the vessel… woodturning is awesome ey ?

Excellent. If I hadn’t looked in the description I never would have known that this was a cherry log. I can only imagine what it’s going to look like as it changes over the next 15-20 years. Beautiful now. Stunning down the road. Well done!
Cheers Doug. I know right, i find it very hard to part with my favourite cherry pieces for that one fact.. the difference in the colour even over a year or two is just beautiful. I like to sit them in a sunny spot to spread the darkening/enriching.. this particular piece came home
To be photographed and the second my partner say it she said “that piece is not for sale!! “ haha.. we’re going to need more shelves soon.
