Thanks But, Maybe Not Mako - Orient Mako 2 Review

The Orient Mako 2, dive watch, offers a lot for the money. 200 Meters water resistance, screw down crown and an automatic movement. This video looks at the pros and cons and whether or not this watch is worth the money. Is this the best affordable dive watch for under $200 or are the Kamasu, kano, kanno, better value?

Thanks for this review that confirms a kind of reluctance I’ve always had to consider buying an Orient.
Generally watch enthusiasts speak highly of them, yet I find they have something missing. Well, not all Orients, of course.

I have a Mako 2 that doesn't have any issues with the specks under the crystal. I have to say that the brushing never registered with me, I find the whole watch pretty well finished. I didn't like how the steel bracelet it came with looked squashed where it met the watch but it was very comfortable. I bought an aftermarket jubilee style bracelet and it really looks good now. I wish it had a sapphire crystal but I have managed to keep the mineral crystal scratch free. It's one of my favorite watches so if I do mark up the crystal I'll probably upgrade it to sapphire.

Hello colinw7496. Sorry I missed your comment before. I bet this watch looks good with the jubilee bracelet. Waiting into the mineral crystal gets scratched up, then replacing with a sapphire is my general approach with watches too.

This is a fantastic watch. Yes, the crystal is mineral but I switched it for a sapphire and it is a fantastic piece.

Hey buddy. Nice job. I must say I was surprised that there was debris on the dial. Owned a couple of these back in the day. Even on my skinnier wrist it worked, though I ditched that awful bracelet. It is a great starter watch...especially in black.

Hey John. Yea, I was really surprised by that too. In general I think Orient has a lot better QC than that. But there’s bound to be some issues in any mass produced product. I’m still an Orient fan.

I have a mako 2 too and I'm pretty much satisfied w/ it. I guess I'm lucky w/ the unit. Although I don't use the bezel so I that's no grief for me.

I have the Mako 2 and the Kamasu with no quality issues the bracelets are better than most at the price point both keep excellent time +2 and +4 respectively.. I heard you have to get the SKX it's far better but for me having a look at my friends it just didn't do it for me and I'm glad (and so is my wallet) that I opted for the Orients instead.. Lol just finshed saying the bracelets were ok but I don't wear either on the bracelets I'm just not a bracelet guy although for a fancy occasion I'll stick the bracelet on the kamasu just for the night..
