    Inspiring, Simon. I shot 2 80’s and an 81 this season. I’m knocking on the door. You are more cool and confident over your chips and putts - that’s the valuable takeaway for me. I’m one year younger than you. Here’s to playing our best golf in our 60’s! Thanks for this content.

      Hello, that is some very good golf. The short game puts the icing on the cake. Makes a difference. I'm not great from 30 to 60 yards and try to avoid that but round the green I feel it wont take more than 2. Obviously it fails from time to time but I think attitude and confidence makes all the difference. Thanks

      It'sstrange that some course have a really hard front and then an easier back 9. I used to do it all the time, blow my handicap on the front and then relax for the back now my card was shot. I thought I was over that but here it is again.
      I played today and you couldn't see very far in the mist. Had to guess at some shots. The course was pure mud. Terrible.

      What is the best way of explaining it? If I play on my own I would get round in 2 hours 30 or 40 on an empty course. Depends on how many ups and downs. Especially walking the ups! With the camera it's 3 hours and 50 minutes. Yes, that bad. It's all the walking about backwards and forwards. Walking the camera onto the green, walking back to hit the chip or the putt. Yes I have got lazy over finishing off a hole, you're quite right to point it out. Today I chipped on to 5 feet and couldn't be bothered to go get my putter as there were people coming over the horizon and I knocked it in with the backside of my wedge. You will get to see that in 2 or 3 weeks. I certainly wouldn't do it in a competition so perhaps I shouldn't do it on camera. Thanks I'm afraid there are still some lazy ones 'in the can' that you will get to see.

      @@thehairygolfer Could not agree more. Yesterday I played in warm sunshine at 21°C in SW France. But the entire course was soft from recent rains. Every shot missed those few extra yards of roll. It took me nine holes to work out I needed an extra club on all shots. So back nine was acceptable after blowing 75% of my handicap on the front nine.

    What a great recovery! As with most of us, the further that you get into a round, the better you play and, despite the conditions, that is a great score!!!!
    I think that the 4-hybrid is going to make a big difference to you as, although when you catch it square, the 4-iron goes well, the hybrid will work even if you don't catch it well, so you'll be more consistent!
    Wind? You call that gentle breeze "wind"!!!!! OK, joking apart, it's very hard to be consistent in the wind as, naturally, our tendency into the wind is to hit the ball harder!
    Well done! In the conditions that's an excellent round, and probably the equivalent of 3 or 4 over par in the summer!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  Месяц назад +1

      The front 9 was a joke. The video title changed 3 tmes. Then with the score shot I relaxed. I used to do that in medals, 6 over the front and level round the back. I hated myself for it but couldn't fix it. The story of my golf in a nutshell right in this video. It was windy for me!

    • @nevillehubbard7347
      @nevillehubbard7347 Месяц назад +1

      @thehairygolfer yes, I bet it was windy for you!!!
      I don't know the answer to why that happens, but the brain is a funny old thing! It goes, we'll get it back on the back 9, how, not any idea because, 6-over after 9 turns into "I don't give a bugger, let's just go and play!". Then "that" happens! So it's psychological! But there's more to it than that! At The Herefordshire, the front 9 is a significantly harder 9 than the back 9. Look at me!!!!! One attempt, 46/38, so I'm living proof of that!!! And then, of course, you've got the "easy birdie hole" at 17!!!!!! What? Not easy???? Played once, Birdied!!!! Where's the problem????? Stop laughing, you just know that, when I play it again, I'm going to 4-putt for a 6, don't you?????

I always have a good think over winter and set some targets. You can do the same, you know you can do better now you connect the dots on how to get there.
      With putters it's as much about attitude as skill level. I stood over a 40 footer the other day and just thought this is going in. And it did. My old putter is from 1990 and I would never change it. Old stuff works just as well as expensive new ones.
