- The Beatles, without a doubt the most famous band in history, have been covered
for decades. Fans know a lot about the band, including odd information like their
attempt at a Lord of the Rings film, their exile from a country, and even lyrics.
We can simply say no musicians have been analyzed as thoroughly as The Beatles.
In today’s
video, we will have a look at The Beatles and the member with the most
successful solo record.

All Things Must Pass was easily the most successful solo project.
ya know…. that’s gotta be right! Hasn’t thought of that. Huge sales. High ratings.
Plastic Ono Band and Ram, for me it’s a trinity with ATMP
George was the best
I can’t get into that album! I only like two songs off it. But my fav Beatles songs are written by George
I bought that album back in 1975. Listened to it once. Never played it again. Nowhere near the best solo album.
Definitely the best imho. That said, the Apple Jam disc could have been left off. And a big reason _ATMP_ has sold so well is that it's been released three times, with each release being a significant improvement on the previous one. The 2001 release toned down the Wall of Sound production values of the original and breathed new life into the record. Then the 2021 release lovingly remixed a whole bunch of George demos. Bottom line, _ATMP_ was not just a great work of music, it's been excellent value-for-money as a consumer purchase for 50 years. I think it's safe to say George ultimately won the solo Beatle contest.
I refuse to pick a favorite...they were amazing together and different as solo artists. All of them have great stuff.
I have never been able to understand why Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey isn't recognized for it's genius and originality.
It has to be the most unremembered #1 song in pop history. To me it's incredible that someone could come with a song that has two completely different movements that somehow work together so well. It's a song that doesn't get any respect! WHY?
Ram is my favorite solo Beatles record....I never forget.
@@timmy707707 Yeah, and basically every instrument on it was played by Paul--maybe Linda on a keyboard here and there....
@@bryanmachin3738 I got it the week it was released....still gets spins around here. But then I also like Wildlife.
I love the Ram album.
@@timmy707707 mine too. In fact it’s the only solo Beatle album I have in my collection now. I got rid of all the others. Who needs the rest when you have the best?
IMHO, "Maybe I'm Amazed" is McCartney's best effort as a soloist. It's obviously a love song to his wife, whom he was enthralled by for the tenure of their relationship and when I hear it, every time I hear it I think what an honest thought he's expressing. A man cannot fathom why he loves a woman, although he constantly tries to put it into words, but it's that very mystical reality that makes love of beauty so wonderful. It needs no explanation and that song exemplifies this idea perfectly.
My favorite is Paul's Band on the Run album...a lot of good songs
🎶 🎊 😎 🎊 🎶
That one, or Ram
“With A Little Luck” (London Town)
In my Top 5 songs of all time! 💯
🎶 😎 🎶
The only good album he ever did.
BotR is one of my favorite Paul's albums but it's difficult to pick of one of them as the best. Almost all of its solo work is brilliant. Paul was the one who really made The Beatles shine.
McCartney's "Band On the Run" album has sold more than 9 million copies.
It's a brilliant album, imho.
George Harrison wrote 4 of my top 7 Beatles all-time favorite songs. Here comes the Sun, Something, Taxman and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. The choice of who my favorite is, is obvious.
I'd much rather listen to Within You and Without You, Blue Jay Way, Long Long Long, It's Only A Northern Song, and It's All Too Much... this last one probably being my favorite Harrison song... oh yea... and Old Brown Shoe... I like Old Brown Shoe.
Old brown shoe.
@@alanh7247 my favorite george harrison album is extra texture😂😂
My favorite songs from George Harrison are: Something and All Those Years Ago.
Who the fuck has a top 7? Such a random number to narrow it down to
1) Band on the Run (Paul McCartney)
2) Double Fantasy (John Lennon)
3) All Things Must Pass (George Harrison)
Ringo-Ringo
Band On The Run was the highest selling Solo Beatles' Album
1. Ram
2. Band on the Run
3. Plastic Ono Band
4. Cloud Nine
5. Walls and Bridges
I've heard that Harrisons Brainwashed is a really good album but I've never listened to it.
@@carlweaver3243 it's my second favorite next to Ram
Imagine is no slouch either. These guys could do no wrong pretty much no matter what they did. It demonstrates that they all were/are spectacular and hence when they were together they were untouchable and probably always will be. We all have to wonder what George and John had left in them. They were taken too soon.
Band on the Run was eventually certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America; it would go on to sell 6 million copies worldwide and become EMI's top selling album of the 1970s in the UK. The best-selling album by GEORGE HARRISON is ALL THINGS MUST PASS, which sold over 3,669,000 copies .
Isn’t that a Wings album?
Wings essentially equals Paul McCartney. I mean come on where would they be without him? Nowhere man.
Yeah different story
I still listen to George and John songs.
I think as a solo artist, George & Ringo almost totally make it different from The Beatles’s image which is all about complementary of Paul with John so people maybe be like have no surprise on their album as much as George and Ringo, especially George album was so completely amazing and new vibe than what he did with The Beatles.
Paul is a great performer as is Ringo. John and George as solo artists seemed a bit more shy or reserved but still were such great writers and musicians. It's hard to pick a "best" or "favorite" as almost everything they did together and separate was spectacular. If just going by raw numbers of record sales maybe you can figure an objective "most successful" but there is more to it when dealing with a subjective art form.
I refuse to say who had a better record...they all were brilliant. 👍🏻💯🇬🇧🎸
McCartney has sold exponentially more albums than the rest combined
I haven't bought 1. Try George Harrison's "Gone Troppo"
McCartney is the richest of all combined beatles and the richest of musicians today. check his net worth.
@@FB1BB1BB1 Love that album my favourite is 'That's The Way It Goes' always humming that.😀

In my opinion All Things Must Pass is the best solo Beatles album with the Band on the Run and RAM coming in second and third
John did not have as many number one songs as Paul. This film claims the opposite and has many other factual errors.
Also some funkyass pronunciations. And mentioning George as the "Quiet Beatle" is so effing weak - and 1964ish. Cringeworthy.
Paul did few albums as a solo artist that I can recall. Wings had great songs but that isn’t solo
Yes! This guy sounds like one of those people who will tell you the OPPOSITE of what you would normally accept as true or believable just so he can get noticed!
I love all of their solo careers.

Give Me Love: George
Mull Of Kintyre: Paul
Give Peace A Chance: John
What Is Life: George

War Is Over: John
What Is Life by George ,my favourite song of all time.Great rift and lyrics ............will be played at my funeral.
By rift - you mean riff!
Beautiful song
I had the pleasure of been in the street in london looking up at the roof of Apple at the Liverpool lads last gig 1969
Get my regards! Can You deliver the feelings & spirit of this day?
McCartney was in a ZONE from 1966 to 1982.
Agreed!!!
Dustin Hoffman didn’t write Picasso’s Last Words (Drink To Me). Hoffman asked if Paul could make the last words of the world famous painter into a song, which Paul did as Hoffman watched.
Also, the AI (or is it an actual person?) that reads the copy needs to learn how to pronounce the French word papillon.
I agree with you about the way the guy mispronounces names he even called Lennon Lannon.
When Paul started to improvise the new song, based on a magazine article they had there, Dustin was amazed and told to his wife "Look! He's doing it!". That's an incredible anecdote.
All things Must Pass is what came into my mind before I heard it on this video and for sure George became a great composer
Without looking at the answers, I would guess Paul McCartney for volume of albums released. George Harrison was my personal favorite, and I know there was one 18-month period where Ringo was the most popular ex-Beatle (albeit with all cover songs). The Best of John Lennon may be slightly better than The Best of Paul McCartney. Bottom line! They're all great!
Paul, Linda and Denny Lane were the only musicians for Band on the Run. That's amazing, it's my favorite album of all.
Don't forget by about the time of Sgt. Peppers Paul was doing quite a bit of recording on his own playing everything. To the point other members were getting bored and wanting to quit. Paul is the one who wanted to keep it together and had the most work ethic. Heck "Let It Be" was Paul's attempt to get them to be a live performing band again. He proved they could granted so many other factors were leading to the groups demise by that point. Thankfully, all of them had spectacular solo careers regardless.
Quality over quantity
Lennon hands down
Imagine,Instant Karma,Watching the wheels,Give peace a chance.
George Harrison, All things must pass was the best.
Agree
The most successful "solo" album is probably one of MacCartney's albums where he wrote all songs and played all instruments. Harrison's masterpiece "All Things Must Pass" had no less than 30 musicians on it. Even former Beatles Lennon and Star are credited as contributing musicians.
"The trio eventually finished together which disappointed fans and opened doors to tremendous for song writing chances for each member"
WHAT "trio" ?
And the fans were disappointed about WHAT?
It would really help if the person narrating these video would check what was being said because this line makes ZERO sense.
1:41 "The trio eventually finished together". The trio...? There were FOUR of them.
Glad I wasn't the only one who heard that. There were a number of bizarre statements and transitions.
To be fair by Jan 1970 their were only three of them as Lennon left after the recording of Abbey Road back in Sept/Oct 1969 but the band kept that quiet. By early Jan though the band split up after the final Let It Be Recording of I Me Mine.
@@doughnutdoney997 - The last time all 4 Beatles were together at EMI studios was August 20th, 1969. Paul, George & Ringo came back to make a proper recording of "I Me Mine" on January 3rd, 1970. They did 16 takes with the final one being the master take that was used for the track on the album. It had been decided that the song would be included in the upcoming "Let It Be" film - and they had not made a decent recording of the song during the January 1969 "Get Back" sessions... so P, G & R got back together for one last time - to make this track for the "Let It Be" album & film. John had quit the group on September 20th, 1969.
But there had been many other times that a Beatles song had been recorded with just 3 Beatles (or even less). They recorded songs during the Abbey Road sessions when John was not there. They recorded songs during the White Album sessions when Ringo was not there. And they were never described as a "trio".
The song "The Ballad of John & Yoko" was recorded by just John and Paul.... but it is still a Beatles track. It is not referred to as a John & Paul "duet".
And while the video above is using the words "trio"... they are showing pictures of all FOUR Beatles performing live together. It was just a very unfortunate mistake - made by the narrator/writer of this video. One of many....
all i know is that there are song like - happy xmas ,jealous guy, mind games, imagine, starting over, woman, instant karma, oh yoko, beautiful boy, aatching the wheels, #9 Dream, working class hero, stepping out
Band on the Run sold more copies than All Things Must Pass, but both are great albums!!
Imagine, Jealous Guy, Woman, Oh My Love , Happy Christmas (War Is Over), Grow Old With Me, Love,
Google has said that All Things Must Pass sold 3.669 million and Band on the Run sold 6m. Band of the Run though was officially a Paul McCartney & Wings Album so can regarded as a solo album or group album I guess. Paul 2nd best seller was the Greatest Hits (All the Best) selling 3.405m and then McCartney 2.134m.
All Things Must Pass, is on my top 5 beatle or ex beatle album.
It doesn't matter who had the most sales after the Beatles John wrote the most important music and George the most spiritual and Paul a bunch of Pop hits
such a cliche comment.
But if you listen closely, the "wall of sound" in All things must Pass is everything but "spiritual", in fact, it has a quite thick and distinctively COMMERCIAL sound to it. Heavily influenced by what was to become "disco music".
Can anyone in their right mind seriously say an album like RAM is just a bunch of pop hits thrown together?
Anyway.. this will lead nowhere, just a Georgy "spiritual" fan shitting on one of the most prolific song-writers ever.
Not even original at that.
12:04 am- I can’t pick a favorite of Paul’s…or John’s…George’s would be “What is Life,” and “Isn’t it A Pity.” “Ringo’s would be “Photograph.” I bought the Vinyl Albums when they came out. I bought “McCartney” or the Cherry’s Album the Day it came out. “Ram,” and “Band on the Run.”
I bought them all on CD so I could play them in my car. “Working Class Hero,” Imagine,” and “Double Fantasy,” are Masterpieces! IMHO The “Traveling Wilburys” were great also! We’re talking about extremely Talented Songwriters! Greatness is Simply that! Like the Song that John Wrote for Ringo…
Thanks for posting the Video! I enjoyed watching it and READING the comments of others! Very Cool 😎 to see diverse opinions too! Grateful I grew up when I did! I was a senior in HS when Abby Road was released! Stay Blessed Everyone! ❤
For me it will always be George Harrison. In fact his "Traveling Wilbury's" group is my favorite of all because it's not a solo effort. George is the only one who's ego that didn't get in the way of working with peer musicians. George is an underrated guitar player and song writer.
Don't confuse underrated with underappreciated. No musicians at least would ever consider any member of the Beatles as underrated. George himself admitted he was not technically the best player.. heck he called Clapton in to do the solos for "While my Guitar Gently Weeps". But, his contribution to the Beatles sound and his solo work as well as writing some of their best songs on some of their greatest albums never left him as underrated.
@@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 - OK, then I stand corrected, he was both underappreciated and by the Beatles themselves (they're on record early on about this) and underrated based on subjective polls on best guitar players although he did place respectable 11th place in Rolling Stone. The issue with polls are they are subject to selecting certain players from certain genres so I tend not take stock in them as a rule.
I’m guessing that it was George Harrison
dead wrong. McCartney by a long shot.
Harrison only lives in the imagination of his most hardcore fans. Can't really compete in real life. And didn't.
The two ex Beatles albums worth buying: All Things Must Pass by George and Flaming Pie by Paul.
Flaming pie is not good, probably one of the worst of his albums, ram is probably the best to buy from paul
Paul's first five albums were great, after that not so much.

Double Fantasy did big business when John died. I have a vintage copy of All Things Must Pass, but that wasn't likely a huge seller. Band on the Run and Venus and Mars were big albums for us as teenagers. Ringo had a couple of huge singles Photograph, It Don't Come Easy, The No No Song) but most would be hard pressed to name any of his albums.
How about Sentimental Journey and. Beaucoup of Blues ?
I love all solo albums by each one. John Lennon for me will always be the greatest x-beatle. His songs are so anthemic, theyre like happy birthday or any popular christmas song in importance. His protest songs like power to the people, give peace a chance, imagine are go-to songs for documentaries about piece, war, government issues etc... His ballads are sincere, powerful and timeless.
Paul by far! He's still going still making hits!
Afraid he's not...rip 1966.

Beware of Darkness is my favorite. It has so much meaning. Absolutely love it.
Harrison's solo music has heart and emotion. Much of McCartney's solo work is really lightweight. Much of lennon's solo work is bitter and angry. As for Ringo, he is not much of a songwriter or singer to be honest. They should have stayed together longer.
lightweight like this comment.
"much of this, much of that.. " much like you put everything in the same bag based on a few examples. And go for the cliche conclusion.
In others words, all you said is "Harrison is the best" (clear fan), while on the other hand "Paul is pop, and John is angry".
Ok, never heard that before. So profound.
My favorite Beatles solo song is John Lennon's IMAGINE followed by George Harrison's ALL THOSE YEARS AGO.
George had the best selling album.😊
It was most likely a business plan by EMI to split the Beatles revenue stream four ways. All the talk that they didn't' like each other was pure nonsense, as they helped out on the solo albums and even wrote songs for each other.

That album and 17 proper songs, it could’ve been put on one disc.
Paul’s solo career from 1970-1980 was by FAR the most successful with George and John distant seconds.
Especially since John stopped putting albums out in 1975.
I still preferred John's music as a solo. George 2nd.
@@corinnecarlman9992 That’s fine, to each their own. I’m just saying Paul sold way more records and had more #1 singles & albums than all the other three put together.
@@thesilvershining yes, I know that, but John's was more my taste and who knows what he would have accomplished had he lived. I think John & Paul were the creative ones of the Beatles, but towards the end had different visions, especially where John became more political.
That's easy, Paul did, he was the most creative and a workaholic.
All things must pass. What an excellent album. 🎸🎶
Totally agree with you. All things must pass was the best.
No doubt that McCartney has been the biggest seller when you look at the albums as a whole. Doesn’t necessarily mean that he had the single best selling album though. I’m a bit surprised that it’s Harrison’s “All things must pass”. Not that he didn’t deserve it, after years of being a sideman to Lennon/McCartney he surely did deserve having a monster hit...
But I would have thought that it might be Lennon’s “Imagine” or Paul’s/Wings “Band on the Run”.
Quality? Well, they have all been making very fine songs on level with their time in The Beatles. They have all been making some more crappy things too.
No wonder! In The Beatles they joined forces, as solo artists they were more on their own.
However Paul McCartney is by far the richest....He is the wealthiest musician period
He is valued at 1.2 Billion dollars
If John didn't die back when he was 40, it would be a pretty close race between John and Paul. Because of course, they're John and Paul....
I love all 4. I have a personality more like Lennon so I listen to McCartney the most for his optimism which gets me through. But I love them equally.
For me George is the best solo artist, his music is so beautiful and meaningful he did not however go out and publicise his albums as he hated doing that. I agree with your list but I think 'Walls and Bridges' is better than 'Double Fantasy' all in all a good call, I can't help but think though what more music especially John could of done, love to all and take care.❤
I love Paul and John but hated how they treated George. When they kept side lining his songs and he emotionally checked out of the band, (“See you at the clubs”) he was keeping his brilliant ideas for his solo project and outshined them all. When you’re an obsessive Beatles fan, things like this make you proud inexplicably.
The reason all things must Pass is said to have sold 6 million records is because it’s a triple album. It actually only sold 2 million units but they multiply that by the number of discs in the set So 2 million times three discs equals 6 million. Band on the run is the best selling album actually selling over 3 million of a single disc album. Double Fantasy also sold 3 million as a single disc album. But How Do You Sleep? Emphasizes a message of harmony and brotherhood. Who are you kidding? By the way, all things must Pass did not have 30 songs on it. It had only 17 proper songs.
Can’t include wings considering that’s a band on not a solo work - McCartney needed others.
@@Azoria4 they all needed other musicians. Only McCartney did solo albums where he played every instrument.
@@keithharris6442 that’s like saying McCartney’s work which involved Beatles playing guitar or drums is redundant - Lennon and Harrison wrote their solo works and lead the band to achieve the result they wanted. Also, those songs suffered because of McCartney’s choice to do so. He’s third in terms of solo albums plus he relied on a band more than them.
@@Azoria4 funny , George and Ringo played on John's first two albums. Paul's solo musicians chopped and changed a lot, with the exception of Denny Laine. To suggest Paul needed musicians more than John or George is ridiculous, knowing Paul was the most gifted musician in the Beatles.

Too Many People contains my favorite guitar solo of all time.
and "Living in the Material World" was not a number 1 single in America. That would be "Got My Mind Set On You"
Rather call them "sub-par Beatles", after the breakup. All Things Must Pass comes to mind as the best, if not the best seller, but almost all the songs on the album belong to the Beatle era.
Ram has that beatles quality sound too, with dear boy, uncle albert admire halsey, backseat of my car, and monkberry moon delight. They sound like they could be put on beatles albums and fit just fine
the songs maybe, but the SOUND is so not what the Beatles were after.
Paul quit the Beatles when he saw what that unnecessary "wall of lets add everything we possibly can because we can.. " had done to Let it Be. Simple as that.

All these pop stars have destroyed the hope for talented real musicians like the Beatles. This is so sad. There is none that hold a candle to Lennon/McCartney
I agree, there has been no artists that have made the amount of songs that are widely admired by in the past couple decades. Last was probably queen or Michael jackson, but of course they would have a legacy such as the beatles
George Harrison's "Gone Troppo" is my favorite album.
33-1/3 for me
Gone Troppo isn’t even the best album by George Harrison but to each his own
0:59 "The Fab Four made their debut in the 1960s", accompanied by a photo of a Beatles tribute band called "The Fab Four", founded in 1997. Jeez you guys.
Harrison wrote songs for others hits for Bandfinger and Claptons Cream.
Also for Ringo!
Paul wrote more songs for others than any other Beatle.
I would say a tie between band on the run, all things must Pass and double fantasy
I love all the music the 4 members gave us, but a couple of facts that get lost is that Paul had a string of 5 #1 albums in 3 years. And Paul is one of 3 artists who sold over a 100 million albums both as a member of a group and then as a solo artist. The other two are Michael Jackson and Phil Collins.
Sorry but if you talk about The Beatles you need to get your facts right Dustin Hoffman didn't write Picasso's Last Words ! And how long has John Lennon been a communist (Lenin )?
All Things Must Pass was mostly Songs George had on the shelf for years while he was still in the Beatles.
Narrator? Who is Lannin? 11:14 I'm sure you meant to say Lennon, was the voice a robot? It was hard to tell, although an AI would have done the same thing. 🙄
"Imagine" is the best song by a long shot.
I'd argue that "Imagine" makes nearly all other songs ever written seem like cheap nonsense.
Just try to think about other songs you like, and compare its intention to that of "Imagine".
GH had to pay dearly the Chifons for copy right violation..my Sweet Lord.
That's an unfair question because half of them died. Who knows what could have happened in the future
George wrote many excellent songs, not as many, but just as good. George was more realistic and spiritual in his music
My take on The Beatles is that together they were groundbreaking and my favorite band because they were the first band that caught my attention and really made me sit up and take notice. When they disbanded each member had success, but the solo albums were never quite as good as the bands accomplishments together. And it was just for the simple fact that they were missing each other musically. If you pull apart any of the solo albums, you will find some mediocrity and some filler, whereas when they were together as a unit they were picking up the slack for each other. McCartney on his own is excellent, but he is missing Lennon and Harrison. Lennon had some great solo work, but his albums were definitely missing McCartney and Harrison. Harrison may have played on the Imagine album, but he obviously didn't contribute any songs since it was Lennon's album. Harrison's albums had their moments of brilliance also, but he was missing Lennon and McCartney. It annoys me when people say that their solo work wasn't that good. Some of it was great, all they were really missing was the ingredients of the other members. And Ringo was far more important to their sound than people gave him credit for. The sum was definitely greater than the equal parts. Beatles Forever ♥️
this... is well said...and true!

George made All Things Must Pass, which people go on about, but I bet they couldn't name 6 songs off that album without looking it up. Then he did nothing else of interest. Paul made McCartney, Ram, Band on the Run, McCartney II, Flaming Pie, Electric Arguments, Chaos and Creation, Memory Almost Full, New, McCartney III... And those are only the best of his solo albums. People who criticize these have never listened to them.
Dont forget Johns Xmas song! That turned into another Imagine!
There are several photos of imitator bands and individuals that flash by....which is simply disingenuous, which makes me wonder how true some of the information is here.
As a person who has only listened to the beatles and their solo careers for the past 4 or so years and has collected all the vinyls, I can say this is not a very accurate video
Harrison just kept getting better, while Lennon eventually went off the boil.
Well by the time John hit 40 he really felt he found himself and it was reflecting in his music and attitude. Just sucks he was taken away at a time where he might of had a lot of great stuff left in him. We can never know but Double Fantasy was a taste and there is great stuff on the album.
Macca was the most talented, George started off on a high with All things then went mediocre, Lennon peaked with Imagine but with Maccas success Lennon packed in music because he couldn't compete and came out of hiding in 79
but who became a billionaire? Sir James Paul maybe the best of them all. when Pablo Picasso died in the early 70’s Dustin hoffman learned that Paul was there so he challenged him to compose a song for Him(Picasso’s last word) in that hour he wrote the lyrics n sung it?
You haven't done your research.
Linda Is NOT Denny Laine's wife!
These people put together these videos and they half don't even know what they're talking about. George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" was not released as a cd!! Cd's weren't even out yet when it was released. It was released as three discs of vinyl in a box set.
How many other groups have had each of the band members also hit number one individually?
I liked their "in my life"
thats lennons
He, George, had a huge backlog of songs he couldn't get recorded as a Beatle.
Not including Paul's no.1 from wings is wrong, yes it was a group but they were paid working wages
Never liked McCartney’s solo stuff- “ Who’s that knocking at the door” , Ebony and Ivory, My Love, sappy nonsense
Let It Down by George
I’m Losing You by John
Oo You by Paul
I love beatles songs from there easiest dance hit through all of there incarnations and there more advanced writing mastery of there instrument more adult lyrics and the changes brought on by there own individual styles as they started to change personally no longer thinking like a group dressing similar to writing more on there own witch actually made them a better band 4 guy contributing instead of just to but no matter what stage was your personal favorite they started as a great 4 piece hard working band to multiple world tours then finally the studio when even the limited technology and a great producer pushed music to hight that are still influencing band today when you see s Paul McCartney concert and the ages are 5 to 90 that's talent to be proud of
Talent... and legacy.
Beatle lovers know John was British not Russian. His name is Lennon not Lenin. Just a fun comment.
"IN MY LIFE BECAUSE I DISCOVERED LOVE'S TRUE MEANING..." 🙏
Lennon's double fantasy?
I'm gonna go with band on the run
