I feel like there's something lost when you have the ability to choose what you want to watch whenever you want. It used to be that you just had to settle for whatever was on. You'd default to your favorite channels, hoping they'd put something in front of you that you like. Sometimes they would. Sometimes they wouldn't. But sometimes they'd give you something you didn't even know you wanted. And that's special. What movies do you remember better? The ones you hear good things about and go out of your way to find, or the ones you stumble on to on Encore at 1:45 am with no expectation, and turn out to become one of your favorite movies?

At least 60% of what's on Netflix these days is their original content, it seems like. And you see the same 20 (maybe more like 50) movies pop up, even in genres they're not associated with. It's kind of a pain in the ass to navigate to find exactly what you want, and even when there's a particular movie you're looking for, chances are they won't have it. And then they'll have something like the Rocky movies up, but it'll only be Rocky 2, 3, 4, and 5, but no Rocky 1. Or it'll be the whole series but minus a sequel or season. It makes no sense.

The Nerd perfectly encapsulates why I prefer to have physical copies of a movie or tv show instead of streaming. If I want to watch a certain title, I don't have to worry about it disappearing from the queue. And with more and more studios creating their own streaming platforms, it's going to be harder and harder to find what you want to watch on Netflix.
Adventures by George This is why I left Netflix and thinking of leaving Hulu. They make more money with originals than from movies we actually wanna watch and that they have to pay fees for. Most of us are not subscribing to them because of their originals.

The back-and-forth of movies disappearing and reappearing on the Netflix catalog can be quite jarring when you remember something to be available, and then it's not anymore. It's also worth to see the differences between countries: here in France, Forrest Gump is available on Netflix as I speak. But we don't have more recent movies, like The Hateful Eight (laws require here that you wait THREE YEARS after the theater release before it's available on subscription VOD platforms). Anyway, Netflix's been pushing its own content more and more lately. Disney, who is trying to build a concurrent platform, has been removing content from Netflix (that would be why Lost, an ABC series, is gone).
What gets me is when you have "Because you watched" and it's something like Saw V and it recommends stuff like Peppa Pig or The Teletubbies. Like those are so similar.
