As a little girl I was always fascinated by aviation. Amelia Earhart was an idol of mine. Then I discovered the WASPS. I'm 22 now, have many friends who are female pilots. I am not able to fly myself but my love and enthusiasm for these women and their stories has not dwindled in the slightest. These women have inspired me so much. I honestly cried watching this hearing the stories from the women themselves. Thank you to these women for their service and may they be remembered for their groundbreaking achievements.
I met and conversed with a WW2 WASP at an airshow in MN and eagerly listened to her stories. What an honor!!!! Make sure to visit the WASP Museum In Texas!
Superb release of this video, the timing for the 75th celebrations of WW2. Amazing women of WW2.Just reading Mary Ellis A Spitfire Girl from the uk 🇬🇧 Amazing to show what women achieved alongside the the men , United. Super to see the American side of the war.many came to the UK. Thank you ALL for your dedication and giving lives for the freedom of others.
After the Army and Vietnam I worked procurement for DOD and I had two ladies who flew aircraft from some factory to the west coast to ship to the Pacific. I would look at these ladies as they were nearing retirement and tried to imagine them flying a bomber ... they had some Amazing stories, as a Screaming eagle, I usually didn't wait for my flight to land, we left early... One did tell me she considered buy a Piper Cub, but her husband frowned on that idea ... I felt so sorry for her as my dad about 1959 after the war bought a small 4 person aircraft to keep flying.
Outstanding documentary. A shame that the bashed egos of those guys ruined the whole thing. Very much respect to the WASPs. A dream to fly any one of those aircraft and those ladies lived it.
What is forgotten is a few of these women had already gained ferry aircraft experience with the British Air Transport Auxiliary , flying aircraft straight from the British Aircraft Factories to Royal Air Force Squadrons The British Air Transport Auxiliaries pilots male, and femail volunteered from all over the world, South / North America, South Africa, Ireland,Canadian, India, New Zealand, etc. Great book has been written about them called “Spitfire Girls “
That is so sad that these ladies had to fight for something they should have been given by rite. Such Women of courage, tenacity and grit. Like the Women who did the same in the UK these Women deserve their rightful place in History.
Another example of exemplary WW2 pilots sidelined by discrimination. Used and thrown out by men who didn't value your worth. I'm glad that the WASPS contributed to the war effort. Your story is amazing!
My class watched this documentary. I had created a research paper on the role of women in World War 2. This documentary really inspired me. These women did a lot of things for our country.
As an African American pilot. I understand . My uncle was a Tuskegee airman. I am amazed. I met a group of WASPS in Kansas City after a training flight...much Respect!
This documentary was beautifully made. It should be shown in every American classroom to inspire the dreams of our children. All honor to each woman who enlisted. ❤️🤍💙
Great video about these great women! Their recognition was long overdue! The original owner of my 1951 Cessna 170A was a WASP whom I wrote to for several years before her death.
The British ATA were taking on women pilots in 1939 to do the same job, from any free countries, including the US. They took on anyone who could fly, including the disabled, eg; one armed, one legged, one eyed. There was a woman who delivered a Lancaster Bomber to an RAF airfield by herself, after she handed over the papers to squadron comander. All the men went on board to find who had flown it, the lady said "You won't find anyone else in there, it's just me"
*TO THE TRUE PATRIOTS WHO SERVED IN THE WOMEN'S AIR FORCE, MAY YOUR BRAVERY AND SACRIFICE BE REMEMBERED/COMMENDED FOR ALL TIME!!! AND FOR THE POS GOV AND MILITARY NOT STANDING STRONG FOR EVERY BRAVE SOUL WHO SERVED SHAME ON YOU FOREVER!!!*
I have known and flowed your story for some years now and I can say the WASP were and still are the best pilots and people I have had the pleasure to learn about. You will be remembered and thank for your service. Remembering { Tommy Tompkins } Gertrude Tompkins Silver. and all that died for the cause. lest we for get.
Damn, those ladies are incredible, facing stiff opposition and sexism and still holding their heads up high. I would kill to be able to meet one of them and know what it’s like to fly a Mustang!
You have Diana Barnato from Sth Africa, in the ATA. Grand daughter of Barney Barnato the diamond millionaire. Lots of documentaries. I prefer them to films.
W.A.S.P were not servicemen, they were Services Hero's! I had a good friend that was a W.A.S.P and the stories she told were amazing. They "volunteered" to be test pilots, target practice pilots and much more. Many people don't understand a womens place during those times. They broke the mold with these women!
All due respect to the women who have served and still do. I believe your perseverance in presenting your case and showing true professionalism is very courageous and maybe we're finally beginning to learn to treasure the expertise of everyone who can contribute.
Each is a hero and true role model. As usual our elected officials hoped each one of these veterans would pass away so they could just disappear from history. For Carter to sign the bill without one member of the WASPs present, shows how little respect was given. May GOD bless each of these true American heroes and role models.
Men are honored for the great job women do. Women are denied the great jobs they do. While men are honored. It is been like this since the beginning of time. Amen for men who are not weak and honor women :-)
@Daniel Spaniel 💁🏻♀️oh Daniel lol I'll take the compliment - Even if I'm sitting in my house with sweats on and Cheeto Dust in my hair! 😂😂This pandemic has made me relax my appearance standards
Just now seeing this comment after just now watching this documentary. After reading your comment, I chuckled, wondering whether you hope your husband has reason to say that or that your husband actually makes it to Heaven. Lol.

The worst landing Iv'e ever been a part of was Newark. 😁 I was exhausted flying from Norway and had to switch flights at Newark. AND then had to be ready for a new stretch to Las Vegas. I was about to cry.
Millennial and Gen Z women are not even close to what these Great Generation woman were made of. Beautiful, intelligent, patriotic, and driven. And no tats!

Many people today have no idea women were flying those big planes from the factory to the war zone. Silence all the way. Only men were flying. A shame!
for me it depends on which country they come from if they were Russian then they were from a family that was ok with state sponsored killings so no respect for them
Are you sniffing something? How many states in America have the death penalty? That is state sponsored murder. What of the people arrested and tortured by America who were found innocent?
These clowns get recognition haana reitsch get nothing even tho.she was the first person to break the sound barrier but amelia got lost is a hero what a joke
Worked for the WASP section of the Texas Woman’s University library for a bit. So glad their story is being shared.
