What underrated Netflix horror films do you think should've made the list? Please Note: Movie availability on Netflix is subject to change and differs from country to country.
yeah, there was another 'open house' directed by ana paquin's brother. that one was weird but not as boring. there was some humor and the brother sister. the 'open house' on netflix was just a one time view. i waited till the end for it to get good, but it was senseless.
Train to Busan is the best zombie movie I've seen since Day of the Dead. If you haven't seen it, go watch it right now. I've never seen a better actor than the daughter. Warning: it is subtitled but, after it gets going, you won't even notice. Trust me. Very heart-wrenching.
The fact that Lazarus effect is on this list takes all credibility from this list for me. The kills on that movie and plot could be written by a 5 year old. I like the actors in the movie but there roles were uninspired and I’m surprised they were in this movie.
i really liked it. Olivia Wilde creeped me the fuck out in it. there seems to have been a lot cut out of it for some reason. perhaps a directors cut will show up some day.
Dylan Kaiser That movie along with It Follows and Babadock are very overrated and not even that good IMO. I like psychological horror films but hated these 3 films.
I think They Look Like People was also on netflix. It's a pretty amazing film about a man who is the only one who knows that a terrible war is coming, and that the enemies have infiltrated society, disguised as regular people. The only one he trusts is his best friend, but it soon becomes clear that even he might be one of the enemies. It's got no ghosts, gore or creepy girls with long black hair, but it takes its strength from the contained dread and the implications of the story. And it's carried almost entirely by three actors, and granted, sometimes characte rmotivations are a bit unconvincing, but on the whole, the film is a wonderful example of how less is more and how you can tell a chilling, suspenseful horror story without blowing millions on CGI.
Hard candy was VERY underrated, probably because it hit too close to home with all the Hollywood pedophiles. The movie was very well done, and Ellen Paige's acting was superb.
I really enjoyed RAW I dont remember how I heard about it but I couldn't believe that it was on Netflix I can't believe I had it in my To Watch list for such a long time due to how much I like it
Abattoir, RAW, Havenhurst, Drifter, VHS movies, ABCs of Death, Axe Murders of Villisca, Honeymoon, Happy Hunting, MAN VS, lll - The Ritual, Dead Awake, and plenty more, but I'm currently watching New Girl lol. All depends on your horror style. For me, I love almost all horror. It's an intense passion.
Michella Malin I agree and Creep 2 that just was released on Netflix& was a solid follow up to Creep 1. The Duplass brothers do great work, and I love King's 1922 and Gerald's Game they adapted those very well.
I know it was last time I checked, but that was unfortunately a few months ago. They tend to switch up their lineup alot. One week it'll be there, the next, no. If you can, it should be available to stream on some website somewhere...?
It features several different stories made by different people. Quality and style varies like completely different films. Why not skip forward to the next story at least?
DIdn't think The L:azarus Effect was that great, I loved A Dark Song, and I wouldn't say Gerald's Game was under rated. It may not have aired in theaters, but it got loads of hype.
I loved it. The woman is very pretty, she's from the limited TV series of Wayward Pines. The guy also plays the Chief Surgeon on the new show The Resident.
Gerald's game was not a good movie. I watched it due to reviews like this and I thought (with the exception of a great performance from the leading lady) it was very poor!
The headboard in Gerald's Game is the mirror from Oculus. Oh and you need to see Oculus Chapter 3 which is the original where there's just one man in a room with the mirror covered by a sheet and a bunch of cameras, plants, and a dog. So much more terrifying than Oculus and I thought that scared me to death. It can be found on RUclips.
The ratings just do not make sense. A great film where half the reviewers loved it and the other didn't will be rotten but a mediocre film where a lot of reviewers barely like it gets 98%.. A film that gets all 6s will get rated higher (100% fresh) than a masterpiece with mixed reviews that get either 10s or 5s (50% rotten).
I did see and like...."Hard Candy"...many years ago. If you haven't seen it, you should take a chance on it, you just might find yourself being surprised. It starts out pretty slow, but hang in there, I don't think you'll be disappointed....
Hard Candy is perfection. Lazarus Effect is totally underrated I watch it every once in awhile, so good. Gerald's Game was everything I hoped for and so much more! MASSIVE TRIGGER WARNING THOUGH: Gerald's Game has a self harm scene so violent, gruesome, and perfectly done, that I almost screamed reliving my own memories.
I just watched 3 films on Netflix that surprised me by being really good, and I'm pretty picky. First is the Aussie film THE DEAD ROOM...it wasn't over-the-top, throw everything at you scary for cheap thrills scary...it kept my attention all the way through and I did not see the ending coming. Truly worth the time! Second is 47 METERS DOWN...I liked this because the acting was decent enough and they didn't over-do the shark stuff...and again, the ending was a surprise. Absolutely had me on the edge of my seat. Third is the English THE DARKEST DAWN which I admit I thought it was either poorly written or poorly acted but then, after the film was over? I couldn't stop thinking about it. And I realized it wasn't supposed to be a film of brilliant acting or writing, it was supposed to be gritty and real and it was. It's an alien-comes-to-earth film and I was really impressed. Mostly 'cos I thought it wasn't very good at first but, like I said, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I watched it 4 days ago and am still thinking and talking about it.
Check out the short horror film "AM 1200" about a desperate man on the run who after getting lost on a pitch black night finds himself parked near a radio station that has been replaying a strange distress call for hours over his car radio. If you like Lovecraft but hate the fact that no one ever gets him right on film, then you might well enjoy this little flick as much as I did.
If you like Creep check out Sleep Tight. It is a foreign film with subtitles, and it is AWESOME. Even if you are not a fan of foreign films, this one will change your mind and open it to a ton of great thrillers and horrors.
I honestly really liked the Lazarus Effect!!!! I thought it was so good! Same with Oculus. Haven't heard of either just decided to randomly press play on Netflix and loved them both
John Ryan The Boss How at all is misery a underrated horror film? It’s literally one of the most famous and praised horror movies of all time. Is it even on Netflix? I swear, some people just don’t read the title or context of the video.
newthrash1221 because the narrator talked about how there aren't really any films set mainly just in a bed and could only name 2 despite naming Stephen King 2 mins earlier. also half of these films weren't released on netflix at first or are/were netflix originals. one of these films came out in 2006 ffs. I swear some people just don't listen to the context of the video or have much film knowledge.
LOL, everyone is hating on Creep, but I loved it. Creep 2 wasn't as good, but I still enjoyed it. Best on this list is 1922. The Babysitter was great. I also enjoyed Kristy--not sure if it is still on there. And Hush is also great. Is P2 still on Netflix? If so, it is also worth watching.
Lol, they never implied that it wasn’t. They‘re saying that the movies on this list are “movie gems,” and are all on Netflix to watch. including Netflix originals. Including their OG films.
Lazarus Effect was a damn abomination. It wasn't scary and what's even worse is they had 3 of the 5 deaths in the trailer. The movie went under the radar for a reason. And that ending. You can tell the writers basically just said 'fuck it. i wanna go home. lets just do this so we have a reason to fade to black'.
What underrated Netflix horror films do you think should've made the list?
Please Note: Movie availability on Netflix is subject to change and differs from country to country.
Looper these movies aren't restricted (nor should they be) to Netflix. You can find a hard copy to buy or rent.
Do the congering
WTF is a Netflix?!
Every one of these movies were thrillers, i'll give holidays was the only horror movie on the list.
Looper Isi
The Ritual isn't getting the attention it deserves. Saw it just yesterday and I was blown away by it.
agreed, that was a really cool movie
Yamin Thein great film
I agree. That movie definitely surprised me with how good it was.
Yamin Thein watched it last night and was very impressed
You couldn’t be more right about that!! I was entertained by this film the entire way through & I think I would watch it again in the future.
I read the comments saying how Open House was bad, and I thought it couldn't be *THAT* bad . . . *IT'S THAT BAD!*
LOL Malisin
Its so pointless
Agreed
yeah, there was another 'open house' directed by ana paquin's brother. that one was weird but not as boring. there was some humor and the brother sister. the 'open house' on netflix was just a one time view. i waited till the end for it to get good, but it was senseless.
Kit Azul open House was unwatchable except in fast forward mode
Train to Busan is the best zombie movie I've seen since Day of the Dead. If you haven't seen it, go watch it right now. I've never seen a better actor than the daughter. Warning: it is subtitled but, after it gets going, you won't even notice. Trust me. Very heart-wrenching.
James Miller haha found you again!! I responded to you before on this incredible movie. It’s masterful in heart, suspense and humor.
Hmmmm... You look familiar. :)
+1 great movie
I recommended train to busan to my siblings and had to re-watch it afterwards. I Realy liked it to the point I didn't mind the subtitles.
Cargo is really good as well.
The fact that Lazarus effect is on this list takes all credibility from this list for me. The kills on that movie and plot could be written by a 5 year old. I like the actors in the movie but there roles were uninspired and I’m surprised they were in this movie.
Aaron Delgado 100% agree it was garbage and not even worth a watch.
i really liked it. Olivia Wilde creeped me the fuck out in it.
there seems to have been a lot cut out of it for some reason. perhaps a directors cut will show up some day.
Dude, thank you. That is exactly what I was gonna say.
The Exorcist is the best on the bed horror movie ever.
tOUCHe!
Agreed
I was thinking the same thing.
You only say that because you were not there on me and my ex wife's wedding night.
Eric Fisher Where's that movie?
Don't ever watch the film "open house " literally the worst film .
Bunny button Too late for me I watched it last week. Yeah It's awful lol
I know right shit made no sense at all man.
The worst Netflix original.
Thanks for this.... I was literally just debating if I should watch it or not lol.
Bunny button FUCKING ONE OF THE WORST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN
why isn't hush on netflix that movie kicked ass (and yes it's a horror movie)
Dylan Kaiser It used to be, they must of taken it off now.
i thought it was a Netflix original
Still on the UK Netflix.
Dylan Kaiser That movie along with It Follows and Babadock are very overrated and not even that good IMO. I like psychological horror films but hated these 3 films.
I love Hush. The concept of it is quite original imo
You said that Gerald's Game was the best in the bed movie ever. What about Misery?
Anne Brown I thought the same thing
They're both great, everyone wins!
Hello, The Exorcist???
Misery has a few other areas though and starts outside. Gerald's Game is almost 95% in bed. And so damn good.
Both Stephen King both freakin amazing. Misery is a total classic but I think Gerald’s Game will be too👍🏻
Hard candy was VERY underrated, probably because it hit too close to home with all the Hollywood pedophiles. The movie was very well done, and Ellen Paige's acting was superb.
That film got great reviews and was the most talked about movie for a solid two years at least. Both rated well and popular...
Hard Candy was really good. The ending is so shocking and will make you feel all kind of emotions!☠️
Ikr, I loved that movie! So intense and amazing.
Devon Nataluk Abbatoir was a genius concept executed in a shit way
I guess I’m the only person in the world besides Looper who liked the Lazarus effect. I’m ok with that.
Courtney Walker I liked it too!
Yes to Gerald’s Game, Creep and 1922. No to The Lazarus Effect. That one was horrible
Michella Malin I agree and Creep 2 that just was released on Netflix& was a solid follow up to Creep 1. The Duplass brothers do great work, and I love King's 1922 and Gerald's Game they adapted those very well.
A dark song is great.
Vincenzo Del Lama haven’t gotten a chance to see it yet - but it looks really good.
Michella Malin but Sarah bolger and Evan peters
Michella Malin creep is terrible
creep and creep 2 are literally so good and quite literally creepy as fuck. 10/10 would recommend
Madison Upton creep 1 is good but creep 2 sucks
Eh, as a horror movie fan Creep was not that good. Predictable and generic. I can see causal fans liking it, but not horror movie fans.
Eh, as a Horror movie fan I loved both films.
all of these suck in my opinion, these actors just look too funny for horror movies.. at least in my opinion.
I Will Have to Put Them on My Watchlist.. Thanks for the Insight Madison :)
Give “the ritual” on Netflix a try guys! It was awesome! Like a better version of “the witch” imo.
Slyfox750 Thoroughly enjoyed "The Ritual". Also, loved the beautiful scenery.
That is high praise..... The Witch was gd amazing. I will check it out then.
Deadgirl, one of the best zombie films ever made. Don't know if it's on Netflix, but definitely underrated.
Oh yes it was....Dead Girl....was really good.
sifat shams YES. YES. YES. It’s disturbing it’s compelling it’s revolting and it’s amazing.
A dark song was INCREDIBLE. Creep is also excellent. Thanks so much for this list!
hush is a very good horror/thriller movie
WavyJ it really is :)
I liked that one also.
1922 and geralds game are so damn good creep is such a weird and great movie and the sequel was awesome too
"The Void" was surprisingly great. Definitely underrated (y)
Soma is it really on Netflix (maybe in U.S. - not where i live. Really wanne see it.
I know it was last time I checked, but that was unfortunately a few months ago. They tend to switch up their lineup alot. One week it'll be there, the next, no. If you can, it should be available to stream on some website somewhere...?
Soma thanx. Will find a way to watch it.
Take care.
Took your recommendation on the void! Thank you! It was so good!
Awesome! Glad you found it!
I watched Holidays and with in 5 minutes in I quit and turned it off without hesitation
Geralds game was a great movie
Dae Wap I thought it was terrible
I loved it. The woman is very pretty, she's from the limited TV series of Wayward Pines. The guy also plays the Chief Surgeon on the new show The Resident.
Karen Califano you are right, that woman is beautiful, I loved wayward pines
Yes, it's a great show. I think a Season 3 (last one) is supposed to come out, but not sure when.
Can you make a list for Amazon Prime Videos please.
Out of all of these movies I've only watched "Gerald's Game", thought it was pretty decent.
A Dark Song, Creep and Gerald's Game are all fantastic.
A Dark Song was an EXCELLENT Horror Flix!
THANK GOD you didn't jump on the hype train and include 'Veronica'. Looper, my respect and admiration for you just went up tenfold.
Love vids like this because it exposes me to movies I wouldn't have known about otherwise.
Creep is genuinely one of the best horror films I’ve seen in a very long time. I highly recommend it!!
Screw Rotten Tomatoes
Shabba dabba 💯
The ratings just do not make sense. A great film where half the reviewers loved it and the other didn't will be rotten but a mediocre film where a lot of reviewers barely like it gets 98%.. A film that gets all 6s will get rated higher (100% fresh) than a masterpiece with mixed reviews that get either 10s or 5s (50% rotten).
Holidays is not underrated, it’s god fucking awful and took me three different viewings to finish it. Please don’t watch it lol
David Howse I agree I didn’t even finish the movie it was so horrific
It's that bad? Bummer
it's not really bad, but it's not your conventional horror. It's more of a comedy horror movie
It sucks
I just can't get passed the Easter short I just turn it off. I may try again but I doubt it's worth it
I did see and like...."Hard Candy"...many years ago. If you haven't seen it, you should take a chance on it, you just might find yourself being surprised. It starts out pretty slow, but hang in there, I don't think you'll be disappointed....
Yes I Agree ...... Hard Candy was a Very Good Movie....
I'd recommend 'The Wailing'. Fantastic Korean horror on Netflix. Not sure if it's underrated but haven't seen much talk about it.
Ollie X
I thought that it was incredible. I also recommend TRAIN TO BUSAN for great suspense.
Train to Busan was amazing too! Definitely agree.
Have you watched THE FOREST? A great Japanese horror flix.
The Wailing is an amazingly good movie. It might be my favorite horror movie ever. I thought about it for days after.
It’s excellent.
Great List!
The Invitation and Road Games were surprisingly effective
background music? love it
A Dark Song blew my mind! I watched it three times.
Creep 2 is out now also.
CREEP IS SO GOOD!!!
Anyone seen A Dark Song? Wondering if I should watch. Any recommendations?
A Dark Song is mega amazing!
A dark song was beautiful
And Gerald's was amazing for what it was if it was a love genre movie everybody would be fine with it
What's the name of the music in background?
I actually just saw Curve the other day - pretty good film!
going to watch Curve tonight thank you! BTW Creep is amazing!! Creep 2 is not as good but still great
1922 was a pretty good movie. Will need to check the others out.
I watched it 4 days ago and am still thinking and talking about it.
they need to put the film: vacancy on netflix
I saw most of the movies mentioned in your video. They were pretty good for the most part.
Hard Candy isnt on netflix tho :(
depends on the country
It was a while back like way back on the day. That's when I saw it.
I have "1922" on my list, but haven't seen yet. "Gerald's Game", another Stephen King adaptation, I have seen and it's brilliant.
Hard Candy, Curve, The Lazarus Effect, and A Dark Song are NOT available in the UK.
The payoff for A Dark Song was amazing.
omg Holidays! It's one of my favorites
Kristy and the Devils Candy are my favorite Netflix horror films. Very underrated films
geralds game hands down my favorite horror movie of 2017
Looper needs to understand what 'underrated' means? This is a list of overlooked horrors, not underrated.
Rated is right in the word and still...
Creep was awsome
OMG, Love!!!!!! Have you seen Creep 2? It's good as well, but not as good as the first one!
Sickandtired no one cares
Pretty terrible imo, relied entirely on jump scares
If you like Creep check out Sleep Tight. It is a foreign film with subtitles, and it is AWESOME. Even if you are not a fan of foreign films, this one will change your mind and open it to a ton of great thrillers and horrors.
C Molles Have u seen Creep 2?
Creep has made it in my all time fav horror movies. It's so good, but not for everyone.
I used to hate horror movies but then recently RUclips gave me a bunch that I feel like this world is more terrifying than horror movies...
you guys rock, came here just to see if "A Dark Song" was on this list.
1922 was suuuch a good movie omgg
U guys like Gerald and 1922 cuz its based on Stephen king novels
I honestly really liked the Lazarus Effect!!!! I thought it was so good! Same with Oculus. Haven't heard of either just decided to randomly press play on Netflix and loved them both
Whoa! I just got to the 2nd movie and you just gave away the whole plot twist! Why would we watch it now??
What about Misery? That was a great bed scene horror. One of the best..
Is Misery on Netflix?
John Ryan The Boss
How at all is misery a underrated horror film? It’s literally one of the most famous and praised horror movies of all time. Is it even on Netflix? I swear, some people just don’t read the title or context of the video.
newthrash1221 because the narrator talked about how there aren't really any films set mainly just in a bed and could only name 2 despite naming Stephen King 2 mins earlier.
also half of these films weren't released on netflix at first or are/were netflix originals.
one of these films came out in 2006 ffs.
I swear some people just don't listen to the context of the video or have much film knowledge.
He was referring to bed scene horror films, not underrated netflix movies.
Brian-84blizzle its on crackle I believe
The Lazarus effect has some of the best actors these days have to offer
LOL, everyone is hating on Creep, but I loved it. Creep 2 wasn't as good, but I still enjoyed it. Best on this list is 1922. The Babysitter was great. I also enjoyed Kristy--not sure if it is still on there. And Hush is also great. Is P2 still on Netflix? If so, it is also worth watching.
Creep is a good movie... Mark duplass is one of my favorite actors and he most definitely brought his role to life.
Hard Candy isn't on Netflix anymore.
Depends on the country.
A Dark Song is truly good...a very slow burn, but I found the payoff completely satisfying.
For anyone thinking about watching Creep; Don’t go into it thinking it’s a ‘horror’ film. It’s creepy and eery
Highly recommend The Lazuras Effect
Gerald's Game was my fave, great adaptation.
"IT FOLLOWS" SUPERB AND VERY ORIGINAL!
please..name of music?
I gotta admit 1922 and Gerald's Game FUCKED ME UP **suddenly remembers the foot licking scene from Gerald's Game**
Lazarus Effect was in theaters
Lol, they never implied that it wasn’t. They‘re saying that the movies on this list are “movie gems,” and are all on Netflix to watch. including Netflix originals. Including their OG films.
Hard Candy is awesome. First saw it years ago. Everyone check it.
Is Thankskilling still on Netflix?
TravestyJunction is that the 1 with the mutant looking turkey terrorizing everyone?? I kind of hope not. That was pretty horrible
Hush is very underated!!!! Why wasnt that mentioned here?
Lazarus effect is not a good film
correct. it's a great film :)
jedaaa i personally found the story bland. The actors did thier best to elevate it but it still doesn't do much for me i guess.
I wish Hough appeared in my favourite genre more often. She's gorgeous.
Geralds game was an EXCELLENT film I have no idea why people didn't see it
Creep and Creep 2 are creepy as fuck. (Pun intended)
Gerald’s game was a pretty dope movie. I really enjoyed it
Gerald's game is awesome! highly recommended never disappointed by stephen king horror king himself.
I can't find "a dark song" on Netflix
Syphian Showbox is better! Its on there.
Yes Lazarus effect was awesome.
Dark Song was EXCELLENT
The devils candy was great too
A Dark Song was excellent
A Dark Song is greattttttttttt
There is much to love however the final ghosts where awful
Just people on nappies with whited faces... fail
Speedy Quick Lol true...I watched it on a bunch of mushrooms tho..sooo that might have made the ending better for me lol
