Oh thank you! That made my day :). I'm so glad that you found my channel, and it makes me so happy that you find it useful. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to leave me such a sweet comment. Have an awesome day!
Just wanted to let you know that there are a few of us out here that just skip to the part where you perform the song. A true Grace fanatic, I love to hear all the different takes on her songs. Each one adds something to my appreciation of the song and that is exactly what you did.
Amazing work I wonder how Grace actually did play it though on the track. I watched her simple version and that seemed hard , and she said the track version was difficult even for her for track
Hi Everyone! I have received a request to make a guitar tutorial on this song. Please give this comment a thumbs up if that is something that you'd like to see :).
You could do it that way, but you actually don't even need a capo. The song is in the key of G (relative Am), so the chords on the ukulele chart would work for the guitar. The fingerpicking is completely different, but I'll post that soon. Thanks for helping and showing us some options :).
Yes, I usually post 40% of my videos are guitar tutorials, 40% are ukulele tutorials, and 10% are instructional/reviews. Take a look at my channel and you can find lots of videos, and I upload at least 3 times a week. Thanks for watching :).
Thanks for asking. I was just telling a couple of students how I really appreciate how Grace has depth to her lyrics, but she isn't trying to be older than she is. I think her songs come from a genuine place. Sometimes I have students that want to write songs, and they write about things that they hear other artists write about or have experienced, but they themselves have not. The songs that my students write are not bad, but I think that they would be able to be better storytellers or take someone on an emotional journey more clearly if they write from experience. In my opinion, Grace did a great job making this song relatable to anyone at any age without losing her own story and perspective. Long story short, I love this song :). Have a great day :).
Oh thank you! You are so sweet :). Thank you for taking the time to watch this video and for taking the time to leave me such a great word of encouragement. Lots of love!
Hi Everyone! People have been asking for a Q+A video, and I would like to make one to celebrate my one year anniversary of posting my first RUclips tutorial in mid August. I'll be gathering questions over the next few weeks, so let me know what is on you mind. You can leave a question in the comments section, or you could leave a question on my instagram onemusicschool. Thank you to everyone that has already left a question. Love you all!

That's fine. Choose whatever version you'd like. I posted mine 8 days before she came out with hers, and all I had were my ears and the original track to make my tutorial. I did watch her video, and she did say that her video contained a more simple version than her recorded track.

Hello Katie, This is the first time I've seen one of your tutorials. Great job explaining the song and you surely have a lovely voice. Maybe a touch less reverb would make it even better. I read in the comments below that you released this before Grace released her tutorial. You said you used nothing but your ear and the recording and that is what I do also. I write arrangements in full notation, with or without tab and also the less intimidating versions of one or two page lyric and chord sheets. Not the annoying type with no attention to timing or the proper placement of lyrics and chords. I run the Pluckin' Strummers - Los Angeles Ukulele Club. We have been meeting every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month since 2010. I have been writing arrangements for my club since it began and I often test myself by writing up an arrangement then checking here and there online to see what other musicians have come up with. I'm assuming that you are teaching the plucking part for the verses and not the intro since it doesn't match in my opinion. I'm really hoping that I don't come across as if I think I'm all knowing or condescending. I've been wrong before and definitely will again. These are just opinions and I hope to pick your brain a little. This is the first song that I've used RUclips to compare my interpretation since the newness and popularity of this song showed RUclips results on the first page of the google search. As you know the internet is filled with some truly horrible mistake ridden interpretations of popular music. It's sad that one person's poorly written and submitted tab ends up on a multiple sites. I'm wondering why you didn't include the Intro? For some strange reason everyone online, including yourself, the English Ukulele Teacher guy, and even Grace VanderWaal, skips the intro entirely. Even the sheet music available is missing the correct intro. Here's a text way of describing the rhythm with 16 spaces using D for down and U for up as a strum. This will surely not look correct on a mobile device but hopefully it will stay aligned on the full site. The plucking you described works well with the song with a suggested slight variation substituting the the D5 with a G5 displayed below. | D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ | When I listen to the intro I hear a "b" note. The prominent melody notes that I hear created by the plucked chords are; | b _ _ b - _ a _ - _ g _ - a _ _ | b _ _ b - _ g _ - _ d _ - f# _ _ | The "d" being the highest note. Now to match that melody using chords is what I wrote below. Intro CM7 Am C Am | D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ | G *G * *G D | D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ | CM7 - Am C Am X001 X001 X000 000X X000 G - G G D X232 X232 023X X235 222X The asterisk(s) on the G's mean this; *G = 023X and **G = X235 You could call both of these inversions G5 since neither have a 3rd. *GDG and **DGD. These slight changes make it simpler and sound more like the recording to me at least, plus I think it just makes more sense. What do you think? I think this is most likely what a studio musician or recording engineer created for the intro or backing track. When I watched Grace's video tutorial and noticed the 0005, Cadd9, and the 2222, D6 that she used, I thought that these were some unusual chord choices and when she said what she played wasn't the same as the recording it's understandable that she is still learning music and has much more to worry about like singing and performing in front of thousands of people. She's truly amazing! What she has done to help promote the ukulele is fantastic. I think it's great that you provided the notation showing the rhythm versus most people oversimplifying it as, 123 12, which is so wrong.I did the same to understand the rhythm fully. I found that using eighth notes for the chords followed by sixteenth note rests give it a more staccato feel. The intro can be strummed or picked but attention needs to be given because it's such a tight rhythm and picking provides a lot of control. Great tip when you said to anchor your palm to make it easier to pluck. You can also use your palm to stop the strings from ringing. If this takes away too much volume instead just quickly reposition your fingers for the next pluck which will stop the strings from ringing or use left hand muting techniques. Now, this same rhythm is used throughout the song with a couple minor strum changes here and there and some effective dynamics. It might be difficult to maintain this strum pattern especially over the chorus. Carefully listen to the song and you'll notice very little up down standard strumming. I noticed you did a similar up down strum which the Ukulele Teacher did which isn't in the original recording. I get that people have a need to build up the song with more strums or to make it easier to sing but it just gets too muddled and out of sync. I'm curious as to why you chose to add these strums? I did find it a little awkward at first but just like they say, practice makes perfect. Here's the verse. I strum the verse and the ever so slight difference in sound of the Am's 200X and X000 isn't enough for me to worry about. I think when it's picked it has slightly more effect but barely since they are the same exact notes just in a different order.A low G tuned uke would make a difference. 200X - ACEX and X000 - XCEA Verse Am | D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ | G G * *G D | D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ | Am - - Am Am 200X 200X 200X X000 200X G G G G D 023X X232 023X X235 222X I hope this makes sense and is helpful to those that take time to read all this. If the text/tab gets jumbled I do apologize. Thanks for all your hard work Katie and I look forward to enjoying more of your videos. Wow, I wrote a ton! The teacher in me can't help it. Keep on Pluckin' and Strummin'! Regards, Brett "2ch" Santucci Pluckin' Strummers - Los Angeles Ukulele Club facebook.com/PluckinStrummers/
Hi, and thank you for watching. I clicked on your profile and saw that you don't have a RUclips channel. I seriously think you should consider making tutorials because I think many people would value your perspective. Thanks again and have a great day.
One Music School Thanks for replying. I do have a RUclips channel but it only has a couple of videos on it that I did for some of my ukulele club members. It's under my name and not my club. And they aren't instructional though. I've been thinking of doing tutorials but finding the time and attempting to be as professional as your channel would take some doing. I've watched a couple of your videos and haven't heard you mention a fee for your services like the Ukulele Teacher has with Patreon. Is this something you do full time? May I ask where you are based? I feel that I wrote a lot and received a bit of a polite brush off. I understand that you must be busy and I apologize for being so long winded. I was hoping to get your opinion about my interpretation and was wondering how you came to yours. The intro thing has me baffled as to why everyone skips over it. Sincerely, Brett "2ch" Santucci pluckinstrummers@gmail.com
OMGOMG!basically me and my sister made a bet on who can play and sing a song on the ukulele and who could play better got some shoes that we have both been wanting and I won Bec I used this song from your account!!thank you so much!!!you voice is stunning!!it is also similar the Coleen ballangers voice!!can you please play I don't know my name by grace as well Bec I'd really like to learn that song!!if you are reading this you are beautiful and I hope you have a nice day!
+Ro Kaniewska Oh my gosh, how sweet are you😁! I'm so glad that the video helped you, and congrats on winning your bet. Thanks for taking the time to leave such an encouraging comment, and thanks for leaving a suggestion. Have an amazing day😁.
Hi and thanks for watching. Because some people find my teaching style either too fast, too slow, or just right, I've made a video about how to slow down or speed up any RUclips video so that you can learn at your own pace. I hope that helps. ruclips.net/video/KUymMkTpScw/видео.html
Love that song! I am planning on making "Thriller" later this month. I do write down every request that I receive, but I just wish I had time to make them all. Maybe someday I'll be able to be a full time RUclipsr. Thank you for leaving a request :).
I posted my tutorials many days before Grace posted hers. I did watch it once she posted hers, but she admitted that her version and the track version varied. I went with the track version.
HI, and thanks for leaving a comment. I just wanted to let you know that I just launched the first video of my vocal series today :). The next few months will be about singing and connecting your voice to your instrument. Here's the link and have a great day. ruclips.net/video/elV5X6ZHJBU/видео.html
love this video but u kinda rushed through it and I've been playing uke for 2 years ... i can just to see strumming but i couldn't understand because of the fast pace you were moving at to get from element to element. ... dont get me wrong i loved it .. but try to slow down just a little bit ( i dont wanna be a negative nelly ) 😂❤👍😋 keep up the good work
Hi, and thanks for watching :). I think you left some good feedback without being negative, so thank you for articulating yourself in a very respectful way. I appreciate it. If I could go back and do it again, I would go slower. If you ever find that a tutorial is too fast, you can actually slow down any youtube video. My students find this feature really helpful when they are learning a song with many new chords or technical elements. Just click the gear/settings icon on the lower right hand corner of the screen and you will see a button that says "speed". From there, you can slow down or even speed up the footage. I hope that will help you in the meantime. Have a great day :).
These chords are wrong. If you watch the tutorial Grace actually made, then she does different chords. In the first and second verses, it's you say the first line then put your second finger on the fifth fret then bridge your first finger on the second fret. You also don't do the " up-down" pattern at all. You just strum from E minor to G until you're done the bridge. But your singing was fantastic.
That's fine, and please feel free to use whatever version you'd like. I posted my tutorial 8 days before she did, so all I had were my ears as a reference to create the tutorial. It's not the way that she plays it to a T, but I think it's pretty darn close. It's nice to see an artist post a tutorial on her own song. Thanks for watching and have a great day.
Light, did you not watch the entire video. Grace said it was simpler version then what she does on the track. She didn't actually show how she plays it

Start slow and only focus on one small part at a time. Once you’ve gotten one part down, add another small part. Focusing on small parts rather than trying to play the entire thing will help. Once you can play it slowly and play it well, speed up. I always tell my students “sloppy slow, sloppy fast”. As for the tuning, do you stretch out your strings? Are the screws on your tuning pegs loose or have a loose screw? Maybe you need new strings because your old ones can’t hold their tuning anymore. I hope that helps.
That's fine. This is supposed to be a tutorial and not a cover channel. If anything, I hope it steered you in the right direction to be able to play the song. Have a great day.
lps Roxy 101 She is teaching you how to PLAY, not SING the song. Plus, she wasn't trying to be like or compete against Grace, she was merely showing you a play through so you can hear how it is whilst singing. Katie is amazing though, so your comment was very unnecessary.
The best tutorial for this music! Thank you so much ! Great discovering you :))))
Oh thank you! That made my day :). I'm so glad that you found my channel, and it makes me so happy that you find it useful. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to leave me such a sweet comment. Have an awesome day!

Yes, there is a lot that goes into the production of a song, and there are so many layers. I have a lot of respect for studio musicians.
Grace made her own moonlight tutorial
Hi Everyone! I have received a request to make a guitar tutorial on this song. Please give this comment a thumbs up if that is something that you'd like to see :).
You could do it that way, but you actually don't even need a capo. The song is in the key of G (relative Am), so the chords on the ukulele chart would work for the guitar. The fingerpicking is completely different, but I'll post that soon. Thanks for helping and showing us some options :).

Hello Katie,
This is the first time I've seen one of your tutorials.
| D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ |
When I listen to the intro I hear a "b" note. The prominent melody notes that I hear created by the plucked chords are;
| b _ _ b - _ a _ - _ g _ - a _ _ | b _ _ b - _ g _ - _ d _ - f# _ _ |
The "d" being the highest note. Now to match that melody using chords is what I wrote below.
Intro
CM7 Am C Am
| D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ |
G *G * *G D
| D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ |
CM7 - Am C Am
X001 X001 X000 000X X000
G - G G D
X232 X232 023X X235 222X
The asterisk(s) on the G's mean this; *G = 023X and **G = X235
You could call both of these inversions G5 since neither have a 3rd.
200X - ACEX and X000 - XCEA
Verse
Am
| D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ |
G G * *G D
| D _ _ U - _ D _ - _ D _ - U _ _ |
Am - - Am Am
200X 200X 200X X000 200X
G G G G D
023X X232 023X X235 222X
I hope this makes sense and is helpful to those that take time to read all this. If the text/tab gets jumbled I do apologize. Thanks for all your hard work Katie and I look forward to enjoying more of your videos.
Wow, I wrote a ton! The teacher in me can't help it.
Keep on Pluckin' and Strummin'!

Hi, and thank you for watching. I clicked on your profile and saw that you don't have a RUclips channel. I seriously think you should consider making tutorials because I think many people would value your perspective. Thanks again and have a great day.
One Music School
Thanks for replying.
Sincerely,
Brett "2ch" Santucci

Eu gostei, mas achei que a batida ficou um pouco estranha.
Excelente !!!!!
Woah slow down! I'm still learning the chords
Hi and thanks for watching. Because some people find my teaching style either too fast, too slow, or just right, I've made a video about how to slow down or speed up any RUclips video so that you can learn at your own pace. I hope that helps. ruclips.net/video/KUymMkTpScw/видео.html
One Music School oh okay thank you!! Have a great day :)))
What is the ukulele she is plaing
Hi and thanks for watching :). I play a tenor Gretsch G9121 A.C.E. and I paid $215 for it. I hope that helps.
Hi how about Man in the mirror by Michael Jackson❤
Love that song! I am planning on making "Thriller" later this month. I do write down every request that I receive, but I just wish I had time to make them all. Maybe someday I'll be able to be a full time RUclipsr. Thank you for leaving a request :).

Thanks for watching.
oh woow, thank you so much :v
Thanks for watching :).
Katie you should watch grace vanderwaal's Moonlight tutorial😁
I posted my tutorials many days before Grace posted hers. I did watch it once she posted hers, but she admitted that her version and the track version varied. I went with the track version.
Ok Katie but I love tutorials❤️

That's a great idea. I'll ask that in a separate comment to see how may people would like to see a guitar tutorial. Thanks for watching :).

HI, and thanks for leaving a comment. I just wanted to let you know that I just launched the first video of my vocal series today :). The next few months will be about singing and connecting your voice to your instrument. Here's the link and have a great day. ruclips.net/video/elV5X6ZHJBU/видео.html

Wow, your voice is amazing 😍
Could you do a tutorial to "Waving through a window" from Dear Evan Hansen?
That song is on my list :). You read my mind. Hopefully I'll be able to get to it.
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I just finished "Waiving Through a Window" and that will be up next week for ukulele and guitar :).
I found that your voice likes Celine Dion.😜
Wow! What a huge compliment!!!! Thank you :).
loviuuuuu
Love you, too :).
love this video but u kinda rushed through it and I've been playing uke for 2 years ... i can just to see strumming but i couldn't understand because of the fast pace you were moving at to get from element to element. ... dont get me wrong i loved it .. but try to slow down just a little bit ( i dont wanna be a negative nelly ) 😂❤👍😋 keep up the good work
Hi, and thanks for watching :).

I am confusion.
you don't sound really good singing pop because you have a voice of a disney princess 💟
Agreed
Lesly Porix don’t be rude how would you say is win I said that to you hmm hmmmmm
you sooooo beautiful. With love from Russia
She didn't actually show how she plays it

not the real chord but cool pretty cool
Thanks for watching. These are the real chords. If you check the sheet music, it will be consistent.
You are a very beautiful lady
WHY IS IT SO HARD
Do you have any questions? This version does have a lot of parts, so just let me know how I can help.
@@OneMusicSchool it is just that my finger get muddled up and my ukulele is always out of tune and I can't speed up the tempo
@@OneMusicSchool thank you so much I will tell you how it goes
^s
I like grace better
That's fine. This is supposed to be a tutorial and not a cover channel. If anything, I hope it steered you in the right direction to be able to play the song. Have a great day.
lps Roxy 101 She is teaching you how to PLAY, not SING the song. Plus, she wasn't trying to be like or compete against Grace, she was merely showing you a play through so you can hear how it is whilst singing. Katie is amazing though, so your comment was very unnecessary.
you sing better than grace
Can you do the HIDEAWAY BY GRACE VANDERWAAL
