- This is a special, newly created version of "What is the German Fatherland?" with the maximally idealistic idea of the people of that time in the 19th century (1813) of what regions the Fatherland should consist of.
Together with my helper "Trix" from Austria, I have continued the text and the good Michel has then sung it for us.
There were often complaints in the comments to the original song that not all regions are mentioned. Therefore we have done that now. Where it was not quite clear, we have chosen a river name with its catchment area.

Was ist des Deutschen Vaterland is a German patriotic song by Ernst Moritz Arndt (1813) which was popular in the 19th century.
In the text, Arndt asks the German question and answers it by demanding a Greater German Nation state comprising all German-speaking areas in Europe. The song was performed for the first time in Berlin in 1814.
As the original tune did not become popular, Gustav Reichardt wrote a new melody in 1825. This new tune made the song very popular among the German population that desired the transformation of the German Confederation into an united empire.
Joachim Raff used Reichhardt′s tune as a leitmotif in his symphony An das Vaterland.

We have chosen to show the areas that were considered in an idealistic way in 1813. This included the Netherlands and Flanders at that time, and would also have included areas with large German minorities such as Bohemia and Moravia. Also for geostrategic reasons.
The map is not meant as an insult and is also in no way a territorial claim by us creators.
No offence taken, i am from Belgium and love the German fatherland and it's people with their great and powerful history and culture, i'm also for 1/4th from German blood so i can call myself a little bit German myself. Fur das freien Deutschland und ihrem Republik.

I love how you included the Hungarian part of Austria. Despite I am sure it's because when this song was written it was only Austria and not Austria-Hungary, it really heartwarming for someone who has German origin from the early 19th century. Thank you for all the work.
Exactly because of that: in 1813 there was no divison into Cisleithania and Transleithania.
It's because before the HRE dissolved, the Hungarian part of the Austrian empire wasn't included in the HRE but the Austrian part of it was

1. Unsere Republik ist immer noch das geringere Übel im Vergleich zu der BRiD.
2. Wir wurden von Preußen aus Deutschland hinausgeworfen. Das sollten wir weder feiern noch winselnd um einen Anschluss bitten.
Deutschland ist ohne uns nicht komplett, das ist aber in erster Linie kulturell zu verstehen. Liebe Grüße.

Hier in der Nähe von Wien gibt es an einigen Stellen Gräber sächsischer Soldaten aus dem Jahr 1866, zumeist wurden die in den letzten Scharmützeln vor Pressburg (damals Ungarn) verwundet und dann in Lazarette in Österreich gebracht.

Nationalism is good anyway, it’s simply national pride and putting your nation and its people first and foremost, which all citizens of all nations should be doing voluntarily.
So have a willingly nationalistic and proud population simply shows the unity and dedication of a people, that they genuinely care for the nations success, that if a threat arises it will be more hesitant to mess with you out of fear of the fearless defenders. There can never be any shame in prioritising the development, unity, and preservation of one’s nation, it’s people and all that makes those people unique from other nationalities.
Extremism should not be mixed up with nationalism, the extreme groups exist on all spectrums of the ideological scale, and they all have more in common with each over than they do with anyone else, being destructively radical and a harmful threat to their people and humanity as a whole, marxists, nazis, white supremacists, blacks raised in hating whites for the misconstrued history they were taught, religious fanatics, terrorists, and all the rest. They are collectively the problem, but in no way can nationalism as a concept be grouped with them.

Meine deustche Sprache ist schwach(still learning) aber ich fühle dass ihr meine germanische Brüder seid : Ich komme aus Elsass, und Ich werde nicht meine germanische Herkünfte vergessen.
(Unsere Kultur wurde von Frankreich zerdrücken. Der Lernen der elsässiche Sprache wurde gemindern.... )

@Kopernikus der Sternenforscher Ich denke, dies war auch der Auflösung Preußens sowie der territorialen Einteilung der Besatzer geschuldet. Man kann sich sicherlich darüber streiten, aber ich sehe das nicht so eng.

Like creating a new potential German anthem (combination of Lied der Deutscher and Auferstanden aus Ruinen) and adding a European flavor to it. Also the Palästinalied with the lyrical history of the Teutonic order. I went crazy when I saw those. I have been a fan of this channel from before RUclips started removing your videos. And I love how you brought the German culture to me. It is weird to say, but as Flemish person I often feel more German than I feel Belgian. So, it's interesting how this channel makes us think about or national identity.
