Doug was always a great inspiration for me, fantastic jazz lines. One of the best jazz guitar player of all time. It makes me sad that he died so early. God bless him! Thanks for sharing 🙏
YES INDEED DOUG RANEY - WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST JAZZ - BE - BOP GUITARISTS --- GONE TO HEAVEN BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN --- AND GOD BLESS HIS DAD JIMMY - - -
RR- thanks for your comments. It's nice to see a guitarist in the younger generation that understands truly the value and nature of the contributions of those that came before Rogers, Rosenwinkel, Kreisberg et al.
Thanks for posting this. Jimmy and Doug were proper no nonsense jazz players. Very sophisticated intelligent lines that still swung. I don’t hear anything much better these days.
I was just listening to the Stolen Moments recording with Jimmy and Doug, and found this. So good to hear Doug's live playing! His lines are tasteful and inspired.
listen to his 96 giant step recording. one of the best takes on that song AND one of the best solos i ever heard. if i hear this solo here, i know he had brain fog or had what i call "lame hand" due to overplay. i know that well, its like you can´t concentrate, ideas arent coming out like from a well and the tempo sounds always awkward. but he still can manage to make a whole gig. i couldnt. thats how good these players are in their profession. dont get me wrong btw.
Very good.I'm so happy i found you.One of my first jazz records(vynil) is Doug /Jimmy Raney in duet.I do not remember the name of the album. But i listened to it it a thousand times.Thank you so much. My humble compliments from Portugal. Joao Galante.
This is a great version. The tempo lets the melody sing. This is usually played so fast that it sounds bad. The soloing is excellent - melodic, logical, and listenable!!
@Boxcarcifer go up to 10 "real '"jazz guitar players ask them who Doug Rainey is and 70% won't even know this incredible talent.. especially in the USA.. like I said incredibly underrated.. nothing to do with bread either. never even mentioned in my original comment. because I'm only concerned with the talent.

Doug plays so great.
One of my favorite guitar players. I'm still transcribing solos of his. The backbeat with Joey D is an absolute killer album.
i had 4or5 album from Doug, it was in the 80' 90'.... sorry he's gone ; his guitar tone flow like water in my head ... so long guy

Amazing musician.
may he rest in peace thanks for sharing your talent with us
Wonderful! I love the use of space in Doug's solos, which his amazing father must have instilled in him.
Come suo padre. Un grande !!! Finalmente un chitarrista jazz moderno con un bel suono di chitarra. Grande equilibrio tra bassi e alti.
Preciosa version de Doug, gracias Jon por mantener viva la musica de tu hermano y de tu padre
