    I remember that I felt I didn't like her for some reason many years ago and then I realized I was a complete idiot. She's a freaking sweetheart and a true talent. She has such a genuine softness

      I had a similar reaction to her, and same thing, realized it was all about me. and had nothing to do with the amazing her. she seems incredibly comfortable in her uncomfortableness. I feel like she is the same person she was in high school-that she was at Barnard-that she was in the 4th grade-that she was at the BARBIE premier. I think she is rock solidly-her. which is why she can be the genius director that she is. she is incredible. I admire her to the skies. I cannot wait to watch more from her.

      @@user-kv2tj4du8p Yes! She has such genuine charm, and it’s not from a place of ego at all. She is so freaking cool and I feel exactly the same way. She has the opposite of a toxic feminine energy - it is loving and supportive of others. I want to be that kind of woman & urge other women to adopt that kind of attitude. Much love!
      I urge everyone to be like that not just women but I feel Greta is a true feminist and a great representation of it

    Although I rlly loved Little Women, and Ladybird was really well-acclaimed, the name Greta Gerwig seemed to kind of float around without a face attached to it, she didn’t seem to have that much public promotional. But its great now to see her in all these interviews, she’s really personable, sweet and interacts really well with her cast. Some directors have different approaches to it, more formal distance, which is fine too, but its also fun how friendly it can be, and how great and comfortable of an atmosphere a director is also capable of creating

    I love you Greta- I won't embarrass or bore you with all the adoration and compliments 💕 like everyone- but I do feel that you are witty and smart, beautiful and funny, with you finger on the pulse of contemporary culture- opps, there I went.
    But its all true thats why we love you.
    Thanks for another great movie- funny and smart, dark and cheerful, emotional and heartfelt. ❤️ 😂

    I really think the interviewer's mindset and Gretas are kind of a microcosm of the state of feminism and why a lot of modern men have this misconception that feminism equates to blaming men and the patriarchy for everything.
    I think where this movie really nails it is feminism does not have to come at the detriment of men or other women and an entirely matriarchal society wouldn't be ideal either.This interviewer is out here trying to get her to go scorched earth on the patriarchy in the name of feminism... Which is really funny because that would help her career but make Greta look like the man hater society wants her to be so they can jump on her and knock her off this pedestal of success.
    It's almost like the interviewer missed the whole point of the movie. Greta did such an eloquent job of tying the patriarchy to our own exisentialism and empathiazing with how even a lot of men are exacerbate the patriarchy having little control over how such institutions got set into motion in the first place.
    She also does a great job of having the mother character call out that women are supposed to be both ambitious and looking out for each other. Here we are presented with a perfect example of how hard it must be to find one's footing there....

      @@Son0fFalse oop just seeing this 2 months after. funny, feeling, eye-popping, astute, knows and loves the cinema that came before it. basically everything i really love about movies. also surprisingly heavy from a standpoint of ideas and philosophy for a movie that could've been a shoddy extended toy commercial only...i went in thinking i would like it and was still a bit shocked it got made the way it did considering the corporate influence at play

    • @Son0fFalse
      @Son0fFalse 11 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed. I was shocked anyone would want to allow that woman to speak poorly of the brand in her Art project of a movie . She obviously loves Wes Anderson and she incorporated all her favorite directors into this movie... but she has no writing. It's like making a movie into a silent film...Perhaps that Movie would have done well without sound and No script. Just feelings...@@sorchamccarrey

      @@Son0fFalse wow, i really appreciate this, it is a rare experience for me these days to hear someone make an interesting argument in youtube comments. i'm still thinking about what you just wrote but i think you're onto something. barbie esp. is so maximalist and collage-like in the way it pretty much leaves behind character for symbols instead. probably a large part of what makes it so popular (aside from the marketing). the personal is political, and can be popular art, and as cheap as a sparkly pink cardboard box, and as profitable as that too. i'd be interested to read you elaborate more if you don't mind

    i'm surprised that she seems so mealy-mouthed about the feminist thoughts in the movie.
    they seemed to be presented so strongly in the work itself, but then here, she hems and haws and stutters and eventually just sidesteps completely to talking about her actors.
    like, if you've got something to say, just say it!

    • @DJ.KyloRen
      @DJ.KyloRen 10 месяцев назад +1

      I mean she's a filmmaker and her ideas ARE expressed in the movie, that's her medium, she doesn't need to give some sort of manifesto, which the interviewer seemed adamant to try and squeeze out of her.
      Also, the interviewer's questions about the patriarchy were very banal, what I got is Greta wanting her work to speak for itself.
      As for her experience as a filmmaker, she obviously wants to be given credit for her work rather a pat on the back just for being a "woman in a male-dominated" field.
