I'm a natural born Texan, this might be in consideration of my particular part of Texas, but we rarely see this on the shelves, I've personally never had this but the original wolf brand chili, with or without beans is absolutely delicious to me!
So, I’m Aussie and have been watching you for years. I had a tough day today and my husband suggested I needed to watch you. You’ve become my comfort watch ❤
He likes to quote you. It’s amusing
Your daughter thought the chili looked like a pasture pie and she was trying to make the divot in the middle and then you ,more or less, said it tasted like pasture pie. Love your channel. God bless.
She might have been trying to make sure that there was no bits of diaper in it.
I, the other person, am glad that you another person tried and now I don't have to. I like chili with beans also. Thanks for sharing!
I bought some Wolf brand chili with beans, and a can of Armour chili with beans and mixed it with a can of Hormel chili and beans. Talk about filling!! No I didn't eat all three cans but it felt like I did! Ugh
But it honestly didn't have any flavor!
@@desertodavid thanks for your sacrifice 🤣
@@desertodavid I think in his chili review video, he wolfepit actually mixed all the chilis and said then final was mess was pretty good
@@desertodavid Hormel is actually great. You put the chili and Cheese into a container. Which is the Nacho container . You fill it up. And bang!
@@johnkacin1500 Hormel canned chili (with beans!) is my go-to chili. I think I got hooked on it when I had to spend a lot of time at the VA Hospital. They had it in the vending machine. 😋
As a Texan, I can tell you for a fact that Wolf brand chili quality has taken a dive in the past decade. I do enjoy the flavor, but it hardly has any meat in it. What I have done lately is get a regular can of wolf and add ground beef to it and dice up some onions. That seems to work better. Something I can recommend is four star beef chili. It comes in a little box that you heat.
I haven’t seen that boxed chili in years but I liked it
I've had Chili in Texas. No beans, no ground meat. Had diced onion, several kinds of peppers and I got a whole Birds Eye chili, whole tomatoes cooked down, a ton of spices that made your nose run but didn't leave your mouth and GI tract feeling like you drank acid, and it actually had a 'fruity' under tone. The meat was cubed beef and pork. You could get it with red Kidney, black, or pinto beans or a combination and they offered them on the side....and I have to say that is still my favorite bowl of chili in ever.
Wolf brand chilli reviewed by the wolfe pit! Appropriate.
That must be Vegan version. From texas born and raised 23 years and Have never had Texas chilie without Meat and beans.
@@shadowfox1609 ya also clearly just read the first 5 words and jumped to reply
@@shadowfox1609 Go back and read it again. They said it had no ground meat. Instead , the meat was cubed beef and pork.
I had chili one time, years ago from an Indian woman. It looked like brown mud and smelled like very hot peppers. I kindly ate one bowl(as I was a guest of her husband at their house to watch the Super Bowl). I immediately started sweating from the very first bite and struggled to eat the whole bowl. It felt like I was on fire(and the next day it felt like fire coming out). Drinking those cold beers afterward never felt so good.
Peggy Hill's frito pie wouldn't be the same without it..
GREAT comment!!! Ahaha HOO YA
Been a long time since i had a frito pie! forgot all about that....
What did your daughter think of the chili?
A dingo ate your chicken
Wolf chili has changed over the years. The taste has changed and it has less meat. It used to be really good. We used it for frito pies and chili dogs.
We, the people, love you, the Larry and family. ❤ Thanks for putting your necks out there for us!
💯 Agree !!
Your opinion is spot on !!! This is disgraceful for them to put out this product and call it chili. Houston Texas.
Must be very sad for real Texans seeing this sold under that name
@@ThommyofThenn Born and raised in texas and I like it WITH beans
@@Dempig Hey I get it. Im not from Texas so I'm allowed to but that takes bravery to say for Texans! But that's what chili is all about. It's the ultimate "you do you" food!!! As long as it has a lot of hot sauce in it I'm good
I like no-bean chili with crackers dipped in it. Chili alone I like with beans. Depends on my mood. Both have their place. But I'm a Native Floridian, not a Texan.
@@ThommyofThenn lol true!
Wolf brand in general is pretty good _for canned chili,_ even the varieties with beans. Their Homestyle, with the bits of bell pepper and onion in it, is my favorite, but I haven't seen it around here in a while.
Your videos bring me a sense of comfort I can't explain been watchin for years , thank you Wolfe!
Wolfe’s Brand chili, just the regular kind, is a great topping for chili dogs but it is not to be eaten by itself as chili.
The only way Wolfe Brand was Texas chili was that was where we’d by a dozen cans, along with Woody’s Cookin’ Sauce during trips to Fort Worth because it wasn’t available up here in Ohio until about 10 years ago. This was the red can of chili without beans.
As a Texan I agree. We've always used it on hot dogs. But it's not chili. The chili we make is nothing like this. Love from Texas. ❤️🙏
The problem with all canned chilis is muddy flavor. It's the cooking and canning process - pressure canning destroys flavors. I just had a can of extremely highly rated Stagg Chili (Silverado beef with beans) and while for canned chili it's excellent, it's just another muddy canned chili. I had Wolf chili a few months ago and tossed half the can out. Better to make your own.
I agree. I am not a huge fan of chili anyway, but none of the several canned types that I have tried have much flavour.
I like homel but anything out a can you got to jazz up.
@@colihon3552 I've been at a loss how to jazz up canned chili without junking it up. Maybe add a little vinegar for brightness, a few shakes of seasonings... nahh, I'll just make my own, lol.
Try some Tony Packo's, I think it's the best canned.
Ok before you write off Completely canned chili try Campbell chunky chili with beans ,
Hmm, I;m going to try the no beans version. I really like the one with beans, it's exactly the opposite of what I see here Larry.
Ive only had the version with beans and really liked it
Save yourself the trouble of buying and eating wolf chili . it's gonna taste just as horrible but with beans
I have been told by old timers that the current New York corporate version of Wolf chili has nothing in common with the old-time classic recipe they used before Quaker Oats got hold of the brand.
The best thing we can do is keep showing how easy/flexible home made chili is! Love your videos man ❤
As a Bostonian, now Mississippian, who can make chili. I can say without a doubt that a person can make a gallon of fantastic chili by mixing a normal chili recipe and by adding 3 cans of Wolf's--it will take the flavor of the entire gallon over the top for the best chili you've ever had.
I prefer the regular Wolf brand chili being a Texan I'm picky about my chili true Texas chili has no beans if you want real chili flavor try the Wick Fowler's chili mix either 2alarm or false alarm follow and modify the recipe on the box to your liking
From what I've seen over the years, what classes as a Texas chilli is usually a lot dryer and darker than this, Max Miller did a decent video last year on Texas Chilli & the Chilli queens of San Antonio, worth a watch, and a good idea for a video to recreate the stuff he cooked up... :)
Hi from NZ. Love your channel!
Hey, thanks!
I'm already a sub and I bought this chilli today at the grocery out of curiosity. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got home and looked up a review of said chili to see one of my favorite food reviewers videos at the top of the list!
I like canned chili but it’s getting way too expensive
4$ per can small can of stagg chili here. I just make my own last few years
I only occasionally use canned chili with no beans, Hormel only, if I'm doing hotdogs, when I'm lazy. I prefer to make my own. Freeze the leftovers for next time. That looks like tomato soup with kibble in it.
Hey Wolfpit, or what yo go by, just wondering have you seen the canned Wendy's Brand Chili? ive never had it but the past five times i went to my local costco in southern Oregon, and it somehow doesnt sound too bad. but idk. i buy Cattle Drive Gold Brand Chili if i get canned. its not bad. i like it.
He already reviewed it 🙂 ruclips.net/video/K6Zdc_T0BjM/видео.htmlsi=u1c3tkaKZEaMqy9C
I've tried the Wendy's canned chili. I felt that it had a vague similarity to the Wendy's restaurant chili but was less tomatoey and more chili powder-forward in flavor. I have a low opinion of canned chili in general (while I LOVE Wendy's restaurant chili) but thought the CANNED Wendy's chili was decent. It's pretty pricey compared to most other canned chilis though.
Thank you! I agree! Wolf Brand Chili is overrated. My daughter loves it, but I don't see any difference between that and a store brand canned chili. I only buy those to make chili dogs, other than that, l make my own. And l live in New Mexico around an hour from El Paso Texas.
As a Texan I'll tell you that this flavorless slop
It's slop :-) Too funny! (and sadly, kinda true)
corn flour/starch/meal is pretty common in chili and even mexican season blends even if made at home. helps make the sauce thicker
Lol, i used to hate this chilli growing up. You are bringing up a lot of bad childhood memories.
Blech. I make and like both hamburger/beans chili and cut up beef (like stew meat) Texas style chili with no beans. My Texas chili is mostly meat and very spicy and delicious, if I do say so myself. It looks nothing like that Wolf chili soup.
Question: Can you do an episode where you show us how to cook one of your personal favorite recipes which you prepare on a semi-regular basis for yourself and or your family?
I usually make my own chili. Not crazy about any of the canned slop, and you're right about the beans. They must be there.
Thane for the heads up. I'll absolutely take your word for it and save my money!
Man i love your channel so much !!!!! 🙋♂
Glad you enjoy it!
We use it for hot dogs and brauts if we don't have leftover chili in the freezer. Wouldn't want it straight up as a bowl of chili myself.
Gebhardt's used to be the best Texas canned chili. I say "used to" because I can't find it anymore.
Glad to see you're still alive, after trying all of the preservative packed products over the years. You must have a stomach like a cast iron boiler, much respect for what you do for "we, the people".
From Humble Tx here. Wolf brand chili is known and basically just one very small step up from Hormel Chili. The "better" versions are regular hot and spicy versions and even then just as a filler for something else like cheap Frito pie's, chili dogs, or chili and tater tot casserole. Good for a quick easy meal when you don't want to make a whole pot of real chili.
Chile con Carne ("Texas Red" Chili/No Beans} is a Mexican dish, was there before Texas became a state.
So what? Mexico stinks that's why they're flooding Texas
WOLFE PIT CLUB LETS GOO
Corn flour is a binder for the fat to make the chili gravy. I grew up in Corsicana, Tx when the Wolf Brand Chili was made there. Chili without beans!
The chilli-pie from sonic back in the early 80-s was the bomb! Chilli , frito corn chips & cheese...
This actually looks great for a canned Texas chili but homemade is always better except for frito pie
I disagree.
yall call Chilli on corn chips a pie lol that's weird. taste good though we just don't call it that
What's weird about it? Have you not ever heard of Sheppard's Pie? The corn chips in Frito Pie serves as the crust just as the potatoes in the Sheppard's Pie serves as the crust. Both of these pies are in the "savory pie" category. FYI: Frito Pie is the official name of this pie. I don't know what you call it, but you are not calling it by it's proper name. @@colihon3552
No. Homemade is so much better. You control everything about the chili.
@@snowflakehunter stated above
As a Texan, I like regular Wolf brand chili in the red can. It goes hard on hot dogs and frito pies and whatnot.
No-beans chili basically counts as "chili dog sauce" in our house. I've also occasionally added the contents of a can of no-beans chili to a crockpot-full of chili, just to use it up.
For you the people!
You're such a great resource for the people sir.
I somehow envision your daughter making airplane noises as she spoon feeds you the chili. Makes me laugh. That's the sense of humor I'd want my daughter to have anyway.
It reminds me of a burger commercial "what part of the cow is the angus?"
Mr,Wolfe pit. The videos 📹 are awesome!! Keep up the great work 👌
Thank you for an honest review Wolf brand chili is so bad my Garbage pail dog wouldn't eat it .
You can buy this for less than $2.00 a can at Aldis. Combine it with their Mama Cassa Queso del Salsa and you've got a treat. It's cheap and you have chili and cheese nachos. Now i prefer the chili with beans when making this ..but thats based off my own taste profile and texture.
Thanks for taking one for the team.
Homemade is better than any canned chili that I have ever tried. Chili Man is probably the best canned chili that I have tried.
that why it cost so much
This was my go-to when I ate a chili mix, when I was still eating poorly.
The one time I had a can of Wolf chili, it was indeed bland. I get Hormel no bean chili and Meyer's chili.
I've never eaten the Wolf Brand Chili with Angus beef. I have, however, eaten countless cans of regular red label Wolf Brand and enjoyed it. It is not real Texas chili as the spoon does not melt when the chili is stirred. (Yes I'm a native South Texan). Wolf Brand is good even so. I was taught NEVER to eat chili with beans in it. But my parents have both passed so now and then I indulge with beans so long as my brothers aren't around. Really enjoy your channel. Thanks
OK, personally I think the regular Wolf brand chili w no beans is the best canned chili... I'll make it then throw corn puffs or cheetos on it instead of crackers, it's delicious.. I seen the Angus on Amazon (never seen it at the store before, but was actually cheaper on Amazon than the regular was at the store, so I ordered some.. Got it, tried it.. I didn't think it was nearly as good as the regular chili. Seemed it has less beef to me. I'd of liked to see you compare the 2. Thanks again for another entertaining video.
I had some last night and it was delicious!
Who hurt you ?

I am a proud born and raised Texan, even though I've lived in Colorado for the last 40 years. I love mountains can don't like the heat, and since half of Colorado was part of Texas I don't feel like a traitor for moving. To the point- when I was a teenager during the 70's I ate a fair amount of Wolf Brand Chili and liked it. My only complaint was the pieces of meat had lots of fat on it. Otherwise it was pretty good and made me feel good knowing it was a Texas product. About 10 years ago I saw it in Colorado for the first time and was overjoyed, buying several cans even though it seemed a bit overpriced. What a disappointment! I've never bought anymore and never will. It's just as you described and I wonder what happened to that company. Maybe it was bought by China or someone who knows absolutely nothing about chili. It's terrible and I wouldn't touch it if was $1 a can. Hormel isn't great, but is 10× better.
Corn flour is used to thicken chili. I use corn tortillas or chips to thicken mine
I remember you reviewing canned chili a while back, and you said the Wolf brand Homestyle chili was the best tasting. Probably because it has beans in it, and has a little more flavor than this dog food looking crap? LOL
I am not really a big fan of canned chili myself. But, if I had to pick my favorite brand, it would definitely be Hormel. Of course, homemade chili will always be king. I am a little lazy, but I always make my homemade chili using packaged chili mix. My favorite brand is Carroll Shelby's Chili Kit. It makes a more richer, tomato based chili. I believe it is a style of Texas chili, but I could be wrong. Carroll Shelby was born and raised in Texas anyway. But getting back to that chili kit, it is some of the best chili I have ever made from a chili mix. Uses two pound of ground beef, so it is beefy. It doesn't have to include beans, but it says you can add whatever canned beans you want to the chili, as long as it is added 5-10 minutes before cooking time is over.
Campbell's has came out with a chunky chili (with beans) that is the best chili I've had out of a can! It has kidney beans that aren't mush & a lot of beef. It tastes the least "tin can chili" than any other I've tried.
I’m on a low carb diet too. My goal is to keep my carb intake below 10 kg a day. It’s not exactly a stretch goal…
I’ve never had a canned chili I thought was any good for decades. There are some I can tolerate if I doctor up with things that actually taste good. I do have two requirements before I can call something chili. No beans allowed, and if i don’t get the sniffles after eating it then it’s not chili. The thing is that good homemade chili is EASY to make. It’s easier than buying canned and doctoring it up to a tolerable condition. It just doesn’t make sense not to make it myself. Which I do about twice a month…
Someone (name won't be shared) told me "Wolf Brand" Chili was the BEST. So, I, too, tried it. I, too, agree with your opinion. It's flavorless and almost slime. Chili is super easy to make at home, especially if you have an instantpot, (or, even if you dint). I worked for Wendy's in the 1980s in college and I learned their recipe. It's now my go-to copy kat recipe at home and for events we cater. Thanks for your review!
Now try the one with beans that one is good
As a true Texan... No chilli in a can will ever be better than homemade!!! I haven't ate can chilli since I was a kid and I'm 48 now... 😂😂😂
Frito pies aren't the same with homemade chili
@@HarupertBeagleton-dz5gw that stuff in a can is for kids and really kids deserve better... Lol 🤣🤣🤣
Well aren't you special
I know, right? It's SO much better with freshly made chili! There is a food truck here in Fort Worth that makes excellent Frito pie with his authentic Texas chili and he even makes his own cheese sauce. @@HarupertBeagleton-dz5gw
Well, aren't you a snowflake! @@FoulOwl2112
The problem with all these canned meats is the high salt content ,which probably extends the shelf life. The meats are usually excellent
I tried the regular wolf brand chili with beans some time ago and 1 time was enough. The fact that it came out of the can in a log that looked like refried beans but was the color of red play dough and had the flavors that I assume would taste like play dough and beans was enough for me
I'm also doing low carb. Skyline chilli has 8 grams of carbs in a 15oz can.
7’th Generation Native Texan, and former CASI judge weighing in on Texas chili. The corn flour bothers me not at all, as masa is the traditional thickener.
The way you described this concoction makes it highly unlikely I would give it a try.
Thank you for your tastebuds sacrifice! 🤠
Very useful information thank you
After moving to Texas, my favorite thing to say to Texans is "Chili without beans is just fancy sloppy joe." Always great for a gaff. :D
I agree with your assessment; I bought a case for short term food storge and would never buy it again. You have to add your own ground beef (one cooked and broken up pattie will do) and add chili spices to get any goodness out of it.
Nice work ... spot on review
Ive never had the angus beef Wolf Brand, but the original with beans is my go to.
Also agreed with Larry about Wendy's chili made with leftover hamburger. It sounds ghetto but it's quite decent. And better than anything in a can.
How'll about update on the carnivore diet.
Hopefully fiber supplements are allowed cause that sounds BRUTAL
Spot on analysis of wolf brand chili.
I've always been a Stagg chili guy. Any variety, but I miss the days when it was in like a grade school milk carton before they started canning it.
Am Native Texan
I also reuse microwave food containers!👍
Wolf Brand chili is made mostly with oats. And it's delicious on Fritos with cheese. Wolf brand chili till the end
If you have a Texas Roadhouse in your town go there and try their chili it's awesome!! That's just slop in a can can't believe people actually eat that OMG
Thank you. I think I'll stick with Everyday Essentials chili con carne they have at my local store. All I need to do is throw in a little extra ground beef & chili powder and walla! It's a perfect dinner for a cold night! 😊
Thank you so much !!
Good review thanks for sharing YAH bless !
I always preferred the ORIGINAL wolf brand chili. Has more seasoning but like others have said you don’t just eat it alone. Coming from Texas, Wolf brand chili is for Frito Pie or hotdogs or something like that, when you don’t have homemade chili available. Keeping in mind that it is canned chili. I’ll take homemade chili any day over canned. I cannot imagine just sitting down with a bowl of canned chili and eating it like that. I have not tried the Angus and it doesn’t look very good to me to be honest.
Love ya, Wolfe, but I'm here for a great time, not a long time. Foodie here, but i do have meatless Mondays sometimes...homemade chili will always be different for any family!❤❤❤
For what it's worth. Wolf brand chili used to be a private label product from Corsicana , Texas. It has changed hands twice since and is currently owned by Con Agra. Please do not think this can contains authentic Texas chili. We take our state food seriously and what is in this can is only a facsimile . I have never had the blue label only the red. Been eating it since i was a kid. I like your reviews.
I like the Campbell's Chunky Chili with Beans, 16.5 oz Can. You should do a review on that one to.
Certified Gold!!!!!
As someone that lives here in Texas, I grew up on Wolfbrand Chili. Cold night? Wolfbrand Chili, no beans, add a few handfuls of shredded cheese. Chili cheese fritos. You've got yourself a hearty meal in minutes.
Never had this Angus stuff. Just looking at the ingredients made me scrunch my nose up. This isn't even stocked on shelves at our local Walmart and I can see why. If it tastes worse than Wendy's chili, I'd have vomited if I tried that. I cannot stand Wendy's chili.
Larry, former Texan here. Wolf brand chili isnt for eating straight up. We got real chili for that. But for frito pie, chili con queso and many other dishes this is what we reach for. You'd never waste good chili on something like that - and it's way better than Hormel chili or whathaveyou. It is what it is - and it's a Texas thing.
Sup Larry, I love and make Texas style chili with no beans, I had this because daughter messed up, it's awful! I like castleberrys hot dog çhili, heard great value was better so wrote down and she got wolf too🤢, great value hot dog chili was better by the way. I hate Hormel chili, wolf was worse, as you said no flavor, Hormel has flavor but not good flavor lol. Tyvm tc
I like wolf çhili. Never had the Angus beef version though. And yeah I do like beans in my chili
Nice to see someone who sees this slop for what it is. Personally, I have never experienced a canned chili no matter the brand, worth it's price. They all suck out of the can, unless you tweak them with your own spices, and enhancements. But if you do that you might just as well make it from scratch.
MCVET, you don't like Hormel chili with beans??
Wolf brand chili is 10x better than any other canned chili, you're crazy.
@@ACDCRocks780
Enjoy your dog food ,Wolf brand is garbage
The regular with or without beans is way better imo. I use the regular with no beans on frito pie, chili dogs and just about anything else. It's better as a topping than stand alone.
Yeaaaah, being a Hustonion, I'm gonna call shenanigans on Wolf calling themself "Texas Chili" .We are close to both Mexico and Louisiana. Its mid at best and something that bland would be beat hands down by any of our TexMex bean dishes without beef!
Yo I'm honestly surprised you haven't reviewed this yet considering how much you love chili
