Dude! This is crazy! First off, I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling better and you had the foresight to go get it looked at. Second, at about 2pm when I got out of the Keanu signing I met you and bought a Silver Surfer 4 CGC 5.0 and your autopilot must be absolutely amazing because you were so nice, and so kind. You didn’t hesitate to take a picture with me which I very much appreciated. Take care of yourself man, we’ll catch you at the next one.
Glad you made through to the other side. I was in a sleigh riding accident when I was 13 (plowed into a tree). I broke enough ribs to collapse both of my lungs. For a short time I couldn't breathe. Luckily for me my trying to gulp air reinflated one of my lungs. I spent a week in the hospital. The doctor told my parents that if I'd been knocked unconscious I would not have survived. Me gulping air saved my life. Best of luck on your recovery.
Mother of god dude.....that was a crazy story!! Very happy they sorted you out, and your on the mend! Side note, I also appreciate doctors that give you the time you need to process what is going on. Be well brother!
So sorry you had to deal with this situation. I could tell right away, once I started watching this video, that something had happened. I went through something similar to this but not to your extent. I hope the best for your recovery. Hey, while you heal, read some comics!
Fellow bleb sufferer ❤. 6 SPs on the left - VATS with mechanical pleurodesis in 2006. When my right collapsed in 2017, I knew exactly what it was, went to the ER and did the same at check-in ("pretty sure my right lung is collapsing"). I chuckled at that part of the story cuz.. When you know, you know. That one wouldn't heal so had VATS with wedge resection and mechanical pleurodesis on the right in 2017. I have to explain to nearly everyone, both in and out of the medical field, what a bleb is. It's just not talked about much. Heal up and don't rush it!! That surgery and the chest tubes are no joke!!
@@VeryGaryComics and the unfortunate thing is that since it's an invisible (and easily missed) condition, there also isn't the money to put into research and education. After many years of it being suggested, I went to Mayo to see their medical geneticist. His response when I mentioned my lengthy medical history, including the blebs, was - "so your lungs collapse. What do you want me to do about it?!" Ummm... idk, his job perhaps 🤔. That told me just how little the medical/research community cares about finding out WHY we have them, and therefore research possible treatments. I've also noticed that the "stereotype story" hasn't changed in 20yrs... they also told me that it usually affects young, tall, thin, males. If only I had a dollar for all those who have blebs and don't fit the stereotype, I'd be rolling in dollar bills 😉😁 Happy healing!! Show that spirometer who's boss! 😄
Wow, glad you’re feeling better. Truthfully when I saw you on Friday you seemed a bit off. Then I spoke to your dad on Sunday and found out what you were dealing with and it sounded pretty scary. I just assumed you were at a local hospital, crazy you drove all the way home like that! Happy to hear you’re on the mend
I’m sorry you had to go through this and thank god you’re ok and on the mend! Wishing you a safe and speedy recovery , thank you for doing this video it also something helpful that many can pay attention to bud
That's crazy man...glad to see you are on the road to recovery sorry you couldn't enjoy the convention like you wanted to but happy to see you are feeling better. Rest up and take care
Glad you’re doing better Gary. You seemed quieter than normal and a little more reserved. I just figured it was probably a little stress and being tired from all the work you put into everything you guys had going on. Ellie and I were concerned when we heard, and your dad filled us in a bit. BTW, very cool to talk with your Dad and hear how proud he is of you and all you do. Take care of yourself, our thoughts are with you and your family.❤
Gary so happy that you are on the mend and are doing better! We saw you at terrificon and we thought maybe something was wrong but wasn’t sure. Now that told us what was going on we were shocked. Glad you are feeling better! Take your time coming back sometimes it’s good to pump the breaks a bit. Thank you for being so open and telling us what was going on.
Hey Gary. Sorry to hear you had to go through this, more so during your favorite show to attend. As soon as you barely got into the details I knew what it could be. My wife has had over the course of about 20 years the surgery you had, one on each side. I wasn’t around for the first one, but we were together when the second one happened and it even freaked me out what she had to go through and with the tube and all that. I’m glad to hear that all went okay, and yeah you just have to take it easy til you’re back to 100%. Wishing you the best man. Fan of the channel, and looking forward to more of your videos when you’re feeling up to it. Take care of yourself.
I'm happy you are geting better and back home. Please please take it easy and spend a lot of time with family. The coime books can wait you are more important. ❤
I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with that. Godspeed on your recovery. You should definitely slow down a little bit and give your mind and body the time it needs. As the saying goes, we only have one life to live. Anyhow, best wishes to you, your family, and your friends.
That's some story, glad you are on the mend. I've interacted with you a little bit at conventions , you are always super friendly. I think no apologies needed, your health is more important.
Glad to hear you got well taken care of. And now, as a tall white but not exactly skinny white man, I have something else to keep in mind as I get older. You’re a great storyteller and I’m feeling every breath I take now. Get some rest!
This is crazy! You did really well to solider on as long as you did. All the best for the recovery and one benefit you get to spend more time with the family 😉
Well damn!! That’s a helleva tale. Take care of yourself and your health Gary. No one in the comic community cares about our books coming a week late. Glad you’re on the road to recovery

Gary, so sorry about your ordeal but happy to hear you're on the mend. Take care of yourself. One thing is certain, your humor is still intact. Hearing you recount the story, "I'm not that tall" & "old as Moses" had me in stitches! Until you can laugh again, we're laughing for ya, brother! 😆🤣😂
I had an open lung biopsy when I was 19 (I’m 45 now). Had a medically induced collapsed lung and had a chest tube for a week. It was definitely a weird feeling. I feel your pain. I wish you a speedy recovery ❤️🩹
Damn man. I'm really sorry to hear this and wish you a very speedy recovery 🙏 Hearing you talking about them releasing the pressure from you reminds me of those videos where they use that tool to stab cows, and it releases the gas and pressure from them.
