  • Supporting multiple audiences with Power BI Apps has finally arrived! Now it’s possible to provide content to different audiences from within a single app. An audience is a group of consumers, that now can be provided the information in need without creating multiple apps, duplicating data, and various versions of the same report. Solution design will become more simple, and information will travel faster. An introduction into this feature is provided, plus how it will be configured, and why Azure security groups are so important, and how this feature will impact our report design.

I found this after I’d gone through the hard knocks road. This was very helpful explaining some things I ran into. One thing Tom didn’t touch on, I’m wondering what you think. Why does the Audience menu have to be seen by the users (and maybe it doesn’t, I just couldn’t have a test user)? Once you set up the audiences to menus, the user shouldn’t have to select an audience. They should be shown the menu for the user has been added to. Again, maybe it only shows because I’m an Admin, but if not, should they get rid of that audience menu when running the app? Thank you again for holding this session.

Is RLS works properly with Build permissions?

    • @tommartens3953

A short answer, Build permission does not affect RLS. Being a user of the workspace that hosts the dataset does.

@@tommartens3953 So if I have build permission (analyze in excel, live connection reports, composite models) i still see only filtered data depending on role?

If you are NOT added to the dataset hosting workspace assigned one of the three roles Admin, Member, or Contributor.
