  • In this video I show you how my preperation to pass my ppl skills test. Hopefully it'll guide you on how to pass your private pilots license skills test too. I'm still flying out of Duxford. Here fly our Cessna 172 and cover takeoff, landing, navigation, navigation diversion, circuits, glide approaches, flapless, short grass strip landings, stalls, full flap stalls, IMC condition turns, steep decending turns, steep level turns and much more. We don't cover EVERYTHING in the checkride, but a fair chunk of it! This video should not be used as a guide to your skills test, more an idea as to what to expect when you're just starting out.

That all looked very good. A reminder why I'm going for microlights

That was enjoyable. I joined air cadets wanting to be a pilot. Because I didn't have 20/20 vision i wasn't allowed to fly, so taught all the cadets how to blow things up instead. Now I am a plumber.

Hi James thankyou for this video. I'm presently upgrading my microlight NPPL licence to SSEA (not full PPL). Your delivery is excellent, in a nice easy to understand way. You are a born natural for teaching! Just one thing, I've noticed you always set carburettor cold for landing. I'm training in a C152 and my instructor always in my pre-landing checks gets me to set it carburettor heat on. The C152 is quite different to flying an EV97 Eurostar microlight!

Great video. One thing iv noticed about PPL skills tests videos though, no one really elaborates on the oral part of the skills tests or the part before the flight. Could you advise on what you are likely to be asked by the examiner ?? Cheers

Hi James, great videos - thanks.
    Couple of quick questions:
    1. Would you still use the GoPro for the video recordings or would you you use an iPhone or smartphone?
    2. How or what is needed to transmit the Aircraft ATC audio to the GoPro or iPhone?
    Cheers

Came across your Channel recently, the only actual thing I’m scared of is the communicating part. Like I’ll forget what a lot of things means or feel like I’ll constantly be asking the controller to constantly repeat things😂. I’m only 4 hours in at Barton.

  • @chrisah1

can you use VOR on the PPL test to help with navigation? Also reading the CAA guidance for the ppl checkride I think it encourages pilots to not float the landing.

Hi James, I’m about to start my first lesson next week at Duxford with the guys at classic wings. I just wanted to understand how long it takes to ‘speak the language’ so to speak? It just looks all rather daunting in terms of understanding everything and being able to respond accordingly.

Soon starting at Duxford. Quick questions...
    1. How long did it take to complete your PPL?
    2. How much did it cost you?
    3. Would you recommend doing the exams first and then starting practical?

    • @TimesWithJames
      @TimesWithJames  2 года назад +1

Longer than it took me to reply to this message!
      1. 2.5 years
      2. £6.5k
      3. Do your exams in 3 stages. 2 for the written and 1 for the Radio telephony.
