I’ve been trying to get my head around sine and cosine rules all week. Just when I figured it out, I’ve found this video 😄. This is actually really useful and I’ll definitely be using this method for my test within a weeks time. Thanks for sharing 👍
BRILLIANT!!! Finally...I'm taking the plunge and Taking an Introduction Flight Hopefully this weekend I have it all ahead of me I'm afraid, but your videos are brilliant I'm from Ireland so it was refreshing to see you use an Irish Aeronautical Chart I'm.so happy that you achieved your dream
Excellent lesson! Thank you very much for creating this video. I was wondering if you have a video that covers the ideal radio call for planning a flight that crosses a MATZ, for example. I’m curious about the possible variations of how such a radio call might proceed and what I would be expected to say.
Hope you enjoy guys, made this real quickly to help this dude out...hope he passes! If you want to use my Diversion Calculator, you can find it free here: www.timeswithjames.co.uk/ppl-diversion-calculator
Great video. Joined Coventry aero just before lockdown still waiting on my first lesson. Just saved the image off the website will definitely find that useful thanks!
Thanks James really useful, and thanks for making it available. I would love to know more (and have the templates ;-) ) about how you organise your flights and what other printouts you use on your knee board.
James I've got to say fella I laughed alot watching your videos. It's nice to see another (and bare with me here) normal nutcase enjoy flying and still have a sense of humour. Great information in all the videos and the plog is very helpful. I must say if you want a laugh you should watch my first solo flight hahhahaa it wasn't alowed on the club website due to the snot balls and swearing. Many thanks again and be safe. Sam.
Hi James. love the video and the diversion calculator. should make diversion calculations so much easier. However the way you have filmed this video is hard to watch. the constantly moving background is like being on a rolling ship! can you make it stationary??
Hi Love the method but do you have a better quality sheet, it doesn’t reproduce very well. It is the first time I have been able to get a good breakdown and logical method. Really good vid and after testing it is accurate phew!
James, great channel with some top quality flying content. Is there any chance if you sharing your full plog? The link to your website only shows part of it
All you have to do is plug in your aircraft performance in foreflight tap your two fingers from where you are located to your diversion location and it will give you magnetic heading and time and how much fuel it will take
Hey James your videos have really been keeping me going through these rough times. Quick question is there a way to get a copy of your flight log you use during flight plan. It’s so organised
Very nice. Thanks. Can I ask where you got this from because I couldn’t find it being sold anywhere (thanks for providing a copy to download) but just wondering where it originally came from. And also how did you simulate the same wind conditions in SkyDemon so that you could check your figures. Great video
No worries mate. Practise like mad using the method I explained at the end. It’s the only way to simulate the mind mash up that is flying and diverting!
James, your videos have been extremely helpful. Thank you. I'm at 44 hours and hoping to get cross country done when weather improves. Did you make the plog sheet yourself? Looks great. Wind card really useful by the way. I use the DP-1 diversion plotter which has a windstar built in.
You have a knack designing forms sir , in the olden days you would be snapped up by the civil service! The .pdf of the diversion is just great but is there one for your excellent PLOG?
Thanks James - this video I'm sure is going to be a lifesaver for me in a number of months... Only at Exercise 10 so far but know this is coming. Are they your own sheets that you have made? Also I assume Sky Demon is a no go for the skills test?
I’m not sure. As far as I’m concerned they should teach both methods. Right now I’m not used to using SD but it’s definitely the way to go (with a wizz wheel and map as backup!)
Can I assure you as a PPL examiner and FIC instructor that this is completely ridiculous and unessecarry and the last thing you want to be doing in the air. If you cannot eyeball a diversion, take up golf! It’s also a SKILL TEST not a skills test. Read the the Honourable Company of Air Pilots instructor section on Navigation and find out how to navigate properly.
I know this was three years ago, but thank you! At this stage in my PPL right now and this was extremely helpful. Much appreciated.
You have been helping me out for years with plumbing issues and now I stumbled into you on a flying video to help 😅
Just passed my skills test an hour ago! Thank you
Did the diversion calculator help?! Well done! 😎
TimesWithJames it did help!! Thank you!!
Oh that’s great to hear! Did you use it on your PPL skills test itself?
TimesWithJames yess
Congratulations Captain
Awesome James, just did my first QXC today! This will be a huge stress reliever!

This is the best explanation to me. Your hair style is well accepted with your instructions!!!
Passed my PPL (A) today & used your diversion card, thanks for all the tips in your videos 😎
Nice job!

Where do you download the pilot log from ? 5:16

Just one picture?
Thanks so much for this wonderful info James it will help me and so many others so much. Hope you are still flying ?
Just started nav work - this is super handy! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Your videos are great ! Currently doing my PPL and just about to move onto Nav. Will use you calculator for sure.
Awsome video and very well explained!
Any plans to train as an instructor? :)
A definite save for when I come to do my PPL! Top video as always! 👌🏻
No worries dude. Glad to help!
Where you find the picture? :)
Great video. Joined Coventry aero just before lockdown still waiting on my first lesson. Just saved the image off the website will definitely find that useful thanks!
James this is great but do you have it in a larger resolution...my eyes aren't as good as they used to be 🙂
Thanks James really useful, and thanks for making it available. I would love to know more (and have the templates ;-) ) about how you organise your flights and what other printouts you use on your knee board.
Great video helped me a lot James 👊🏼
Do you use iPad mini for sky demon?
Do you not need to balance the drift? I guess it wouldn't make much difference at these speeds?
Excellent advice 👍
Thanks!

Which plotter is that?
Really useful for someone going through their PPL. Thanks dude!

So great method, I will use it on the exams! Thanks
Best of luck!
This is really helpful! Thanks mate for the video tutorial!🙌

Absolutely brilliant video. Thanks very much.
Love this. Super helpful. Any chance of getting hold of your plog and diversion wheel
That’s fantastic. Do you have the template for the whole log sheet. Just as you have printed. Thanks
I like the plotter, can't seem to find one like that in the U.S. great video
Thanks for these videos !!! I'm a better pilot thank to you !! A question : backtracking runway : side or centerline ? Thanks a lot !!
James, great channel with some top quality flying content. Is there any chance if you sharing your full plog? The link to your website only shows part of it
The best way to practice it doing it in flight sim
All you have to do is plug in your aircraft performance in foreflight tap your two fingers from where you are located to your diversion location and it will give you magnetic heading and time and how much fuel it will take
I’m curious, what the other side of the paper looks like…the VFR planner side. :)
Thank you for posting this. Cheers!
I would like to buy 1 of your diversion charts
What are the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and Full lines on the chart?
Hey James your videos have really been keeping me going through these rough times. Quick question is there a way to get a copy of your flight log you use during flight plan. It’s so organised
I'll post it on the website mate. Hope you're all good!
I would like a copy of the PLOG as well!

Hi James, Really helpful video! That plog you are using looks very well designed, any chance you have a sharable template of it? Cheers :)
On my website www.timeswithjames.co.uk
@@TimesWithJames I can only find the diversion calculator, is the plog on the website?
@@olivernurse4421 Do you find it?

Thank you thank you !!❤️ u r such a nice guy 🙏

TimesWithJames wilco😉
Gere Cano how’s the practise going?
TimesWithJames good good its quite easy to use it at home, lets see if I can do it flying🤣🙏
Great work
Thanks, this helped me with my practical skills test. 👍🏻😎
Excellent!

No worries Stephen. Glad they’ve helped you out. I designed the wind card myself!
Is your plog sheet available anywhere? Looks really good and love the way it folds around the A5 size.
stephenreckguitar yes mate. Linked in the description. 😎
TimesWithJames can’t find the link James
Yeah, looked for the link too and didn’t see it.

Why are you subtracting when the wind correction is on the right side?
How does max drift come into effect with this; meaning 1/4 1/2 etc... because I always work out my max drift before any flight
GREAT JOB!
Hi, I have been struggling to get my head around unplanned diversions and really like this method, is it allowed for the actual skills test?
Yes. Anything that works for you and is safe.
Thaks a lot mate
Genius!
Thanks man!
Can I get your plog and drift Calc sheet?
thank you so much! i'm not so lazy to fly anymore after seeing this haha
If you ever want anyone to fly with, let me know! doing my PPL & live in east Anglia!
Excellent video busted the myth thanks
Thanks for that so much :)
Thanks for this awesome help and for being so cute
That is absolutely not Dublin on the chart, its wexford
I’ve got wasps in my brain..!
Your spoiling is appealing.
Fixed!
I suffer from pisspronounciation. I have difficulty in spraying my worms correctly.

Hi there thanks for your comment! Out of interest where and what do you fly? My flight instructor and examiner were both fine with my method.
I hope your nav calcs are better than your spelling 😂
Haha! Point it out!
TimesWithJames in the title mate . Just pulling your log 😂
Gixer750pilot ah bummer!
Hey where can I download a copy of that paper template you had for the diversion? Thanks
