I was there that day, Jenson went out on a damp track when he set his fastest time. Plus the demo Pirelli's are as hard as concrete too, which didn't help his lap time one bit. What was cool though was earlier in the morning watching Jenson with his father John in the passenger seat drive the wheels off a AMG Benz around the track as he was learning it. Met John later in the day and he was an awesome bloke.

That 919 lap is truly one of the scariest laps I've ever seen. I don't think anyone would have the kahoonaz to push that hard on Bathurst in real life. I wouldn't even in a sim. Nice lap Jimmy!
Absolutely insane. Almost 3/4’s of the time it takes a fully trimmed out V8 to do a pole lap here. Ridiculously quick, especially when he’s going over the top of the mountain
I remember when Jenson did this and beforehand in theory it was believed that the F1 could do 1.38 at Bathurst. But when it came time to do his laps, there were a couple of problems. the gear ratios were set up for Albert Park and because of the camber that Mt Panorama had, the bottom of the car was scraping on the road. Also Jenson said that was the first time that he had ever driven around Mt Panorama and how unique it is, it would take him a fair few laps before really understood how to drive around the track. What is remarkable on that day was Craig Lowndes was only 1 second slower. Considering that was the first time driving an F1 car and it had been years since he had been in an open wheeler. Admittedly Craig knows the circuit quite well which would have been an advantage, still that shows just how good a driver Craig is. A shame he was not able to showcase his skills on the world stage.
Saying Craig knows Bathurst quite well is understatement of the century like saying Lewis Hamilton or Michael Schumacher are fairly successful F1 drivers
Button didn't go anywhere near his maximum. Obviously he was told not to anyway, as having a accident on the hill could be death in a F1 car. Plus he needed to be at the Aus GP next week. I would say high 1min 30's

Well done! It just goes to show that a lot of time can be made up approaching skyline and then managing the increased speed on the way down. Only a few are true masters of this... Peter Brock to name one. It takes true courage in the real world.

That was great in the F1! Well done. Bathurst circuit outside of the race season, is a road open to the public - I drove it in real life a few years ago in my road car. Amazing track (but police speed traps everywhere!).
Wowww that lap in the 919 Evo was perfect! Using the whole width of the track coming millimeters from the walls, hitting the braking points and apexs. Man that was intense. Good shit!
Love this video. The 2007 MP4-22 driven by Fernando Alonso was sold in 2018, once sold. It was shipped across to the USA to go to a private collector who then took the car to IMS. That private collector is my father! Having this car in our garage is flipping bonkers. The car takes 7 people not including the driver to start and manage and when running at idle, you still need earplugs to think

Amazing driving sir. Many years ago I professionally photographed many a race at Bathurst and even had a Porsche Cup pilot drive me in my car (back then a 3 series Beemer) around a few laps. It's a hell of a track and I've witnessed some pretty fast driving around there but your 'virtual' drive was right up there for viewer excitement. Your voice even conveyed G-forces - you are not Murray Walker's grandson are you? :-) Cheers and thanks from Sydney - Dave

The amazing thing about driving around Mt Panorama in real life is just how crazy steep it is. It's something that you just don't pick up watching on TV, or, as it seems, driving sims. The climb from Griffins up to the cutting is brutal.
