What we are seeing here is the end of an great era in entertainment. Marvelous talent, strong personalities, self depreciation, sharp wit, and double edged humor; all of it on your TV. Our culture has moved on to other things, as it inevitably would. Just appreciate this for what it was, much like you would Charlie Chaplin movie. Time marches on.
Yip, we've sadly now entered the era of 1) no jobs for humanity cos AI has taken over, 2) nobody talking to each other in airports cos they're all staring at smartphones, &3) kids and teens not being able to understand what humour is cos all their parents do is shove them into a room with Internet devices, then instead of teaching manners, communication and creativity, the parents either teach them that everyone around them is a pervert, or don't teach them anything cos the parents themselves are staring at smartphones. Welcome to the new era of pure selfishness, ignorance and AI stopping humanity using their brains.
i just lost my health, my job, my house, my new car, my dog , but throughout this doom, my only laughter came from this Dame and her wit given from the Lord.
Enjoying these shows again in Dec 2023 to lift my soul with laughter and blank out the BS media prospecting fear across the globe. There is joy in the world, and love - focus on that people. Thanks for the upload. RIP Edna / Les / Barry
What a talent. The Dame was a one off. Barry will never be replaced. Some may try to copy but the real thing is something else. My very favourite together with Billy Connolly. The 2 greatest comedians ever to have graced our stage and screen. Stevie in Scotland.
One of the best interviews from this show yet. Alec and Dame Edna are cracking each other up...I love it. He's witty and can hang right in there with her, which is no easy feat.
Bryan Williams I love the last song... when she is gliding over the stage waving those instruments like a real megastar taking the whole attention of the show hahaha (44:15)
Agreed. He held his own (Baldwin) without becoming completely arsey. Fair play to him for that. There are few people I've seen who could do that. American's expecially.
Wow - getting Naomi acting in that role - that means lots of love and respect of the work of a respectful loving producer - alias Dame Edna - wonderful. I would place her in my top three of world´s best comedy entertainers ever. Adorable. Of sharp wit and intelligence, indeed!
Dame Edna fantastic comedy ,,, she's been going for decades ,, and her comedy is still sharp and up to date ,, and can keep up to any generation ,, even if they are much younger than her self ,,, a great comedy brain :-) :-) ....
Barry Humphries character of Dame Edna is comedy at it's best. I was very dismayed when recently I watched an interview with him, and he said he had been on the receiving end of hate mail due to his drag style comedy character, Dame Edna. Some of the rotten part of the public had threatened him, basically from the hate of people that thought he is a gay drag queen. First of all, he's straight and this is just a genius way of his comedy. This talented man was insulted and even threatened by some of the idiots that are out there. He was truly hurt by the comments made against him. Sad part of society that can't sort out reality of his talent.
I am glad he got to experience first-hand some of the hate the LGBTQI community feel because he lacked empathy towards us. Barry profited from using a gay art form but didn't support the community and has made transphobic comments. Hopefully he got to experience some of the suffering we go through.
@@marwood1969 I am a huge fan of Dame Edna, who actually pokes fun at prejudice attitudes and narrow mindedness, something a lot people didn't understand about Barry's humor. However, Barry failed to realise that as a successful public figure he also had a responsibility to protect those who are often marginalised in the community.
@@marwood1969 No, you have misread my response. There is an important distinction between what Barry says as a man and what he says through the characters he plays.

So funny. Only the inimitable Dame Edna could get Naomi Campbell on, wearing a dust mask. You really have to appreciate all the famous people that willingly allowed themselves to get sucked into her world and casually humiliated : ) I still think Edna is at her best working without a script though... that Parkinson episode where she dominated the talk show is amazing - it's 100% improvisation.. Live and unscripted is when the real genius and quick wit of Edna E. really shines. I suppose the best testament of Edna's genius is how she somehow convinced the world that "Barry Humphries", a character she invented primarily to avoid the paparazzi, was not only believed to be real but even got awarded a CBE and AO! XD
Watching this parked up in my truck. Pissing myself laughing, sides aching, trucks probably shaking with my laughing and getting funny looks from other truckers. Alec Baldwin is such an idiot. His expressions makes me feel uncomfortable. What is his problem? Tim was great, Amanda amazing, and as for Englebert... when I sang for the elderly in assisted living places that song is a big hit among the ladies :) Most of the time after the phrase "When will you say yes to me" one of them would whisper "Any time!" LOL... and for my daughter's quinzianera (15th Birthday in Brazil) we danced the waltz "The bicycles of Belsize" - one of Englebert greatest hits... Awsome guests... Awsome Dame Edna!!!!
"There's no good time to remove old caulk." Priceless and even Edna almost burst out laughing at that quick one-liner. I agree with the comments about Alec Baldwin. This must have been before he turned into a humorless jerk.
