I deeply appreciate your sensitive mention of the plight of the Irish in the 1800's. This piece of important history is often overlooked in the United States, despite the emphasis here on racial and other social rights equality. I am of Irish ancestry myself. Also, what a perfect sponsor for your channel! What a fascinating combination of countries for your own ancestry-I'm sure it will be very entertaining to delve deeper for you.

My brother had a DNA test done and it answered a lot of questions I found odd about myself. Certain things appealed to me for reasons I did not understand. It makes sense now that I know what's in my DNA. Although we don't look it, we are Norwegian, Irish, English and a bit of East African. Wayward sons did not write home to tell the folks they had children with the natives. For now it is just a motivation for others to do/not do a DNA test. It can be a double edge sword because a lot of cold cases are being solved because of DNA testing.

    Very good video.
I was thinking that she may have been blackmailed by someone who knew her true identity or at least that she wasn’t from a rich family in Louisiana. That would have caused a scandal that she and her sisters weren’t willing to face.
Could that be the reason why she withdrew such a large sum of money and went into hiding, or possibly that the hiding in itself was a term from the blackmailer? I’m thinking that it may have been someone from the Louisiana family who after the war was destitute and saw the opportunity to compensate for Ida pretending to be from his or hers family.
    Just a thought.

Did she inherit from Ida Wood's estate? And, that was very interesting about your family history via DNA. Great investigating, and presentation, as well.

🧐 Why Nicholas has such a variety of nationalities:
    a) His great great great great grandad was a very handsome Pirate who had beautiful women waiting for him at various exotic islands and established ports around the world 😎
    b) He comes from a line of international playboys that settled in various countries to lay down their roots 😉
    c) His ancestors were musicians, either on upscale cruise ships or the traveling circus!
    d) His ancestor was a beautiful Princess that owned magical things and exceptional at math and war tactics, making her quite a catch, but she was kidnapped from her home by invading forces then coerced to marry the invading country’s crown Prince and birth his heirs. When that ruling country was overthrown she once again was kidnapped and made to marry that invading country’s Prince and birth his heirs. And once again it happened, the magical Princess was taken, but she escaped with all her beautiful kiddies to Europe somewhere, or Mexico legend says..thus solving the mystery of Nicholas crazy background!

I don't know why living as a recluse is considered "crazy" or "madness" I think more people would do it if they could afford too. The financial crisis probably changed people somewhat too and so the sisters thought well this is no fun to be around anymore we're not suicidal or too poor though so let's just go waste our years away from others. Wealth is a luxury for some they don't have to do what they don't want to do anymore some can afford a car so they don't have to use public transit some can afford a hotel room and to be left alone completely just opening the door for room service and laundry occasionally. I have watched dozens of videos now of people saving to live off grid in tiny homes just so they can retire away from society too. They will probably still need to go out for supplies every few weeks though the sisters did not they just had a bunch of cash and could send a maid to get them clothes or food or anything and then tip them well not to pester them. As wealthy women they would probably be targetted maybe assaulted by the poor too fear of robbery or violence kept them isolated too.

Very interesting learning about your heritage, especially hearing that your mother is Mexican, can you speak Spanish?

  • @littleblackcar

There is a lot of association between the Middle East and North Africa, and Spain, so that's not really that surprising. Interesting, but not surprising. (My mom's family has a whopping dose of Scandinavian despite having no documented Scandinavian ancestors, probably because a lot of Vikings ended up in Scotland, where we do have documented ancestry.)

You certainly have quite a mix in your background! I turned out to be 100 percent Northern European. Irish, Scottish, English, French, German and Swiss. Both parents were born in Arkansas and apparently both had deep roots in Europe . 23and me also gives Neanderthal in a backward way saying I have more Neanderthal than 28 per cent of the population. The report changes periodically as more people sign on, so I can't wait to see what comes up. BTW, 24 years is not so long when you live to be 94. They should have helped her clean out a,little and left her there. I think the shock of being forcibly move did a number on her weakening her immune system.

I know what I'm looking for in a DNA test but I haven't found it, I might try this one, has your talented family also did this test? I would like to submit my DNA test to the Codis to help fight crime, I'm aware of the people that could do wrong even in families. I'm not ashamed of the past criminal activity of past it's them not me, I have a cousin who was released from a prison for the fact they were apart of something horrible, but it is what it is, this is all I'm giving here.

Now that you've learned of your heritage, you're going to have to learn A LOT of new languages to cover the forgotten lives of people from all those places!
Both Ida's story and yours were fascinating. The strangest thing about your genetic history is that you don't appear to be related to Kubla Khan - which puts you at odds with the majority of the world! 😀

If your mom is from Mexico you shouldn't be surprised by the variety in your genetic makeup an incredible percentage of latin america is mixed raced to a degree that would astonished most americans. I'm from Perú (my country and Mexico are very similar in a lot of ways) and here over 70% of the population is mixed raced. From example I'm of Spanish, Italian, French, Middle Eastern, African, and Native Peruvian descend. In a lot of latin americans the middle eastern blood comes from the moorish occupation of Spain; and the spanish were a lot less reluctant to mix with the "natives", so those two are to be expected.
