Such a beautiful machine. 54th Sentai Yellow tail which caused Tommy Mcguire 2nd ranked American ace P-38 Lightning-L, 38 kills to crash. 77th Sentai shot down Kneal Kearby in P-47d Razorback Thunderbolt.
This aircraft was built from the ground up using parts from several wrecked Ki-43's as engineering templates. It has a Pratt & Whitney engine and I believe it is one of two flyable examples that exist.
I stood next to this aircraft at Tillamook air museum in 2008, very impressed with authentic colors, nice restoration. I was bug eyed when I paid my ticket to enter the hanger and saw it, I grew up modeling WW 2 Japanese aircraft, so could appreciate being near it. Was surprised that the owners made it flyable due to rarity of the machine.
What a beautiful and amazing fighter. The bravery and skill of the Japanese pilots is the best example and heroism and sacrifice for the homeland....this rare and great fighter should be maintained and preserved for the generations who can be proud of the Japanese pilots and mechanical crews who saw it climb into the skies and crowned itself in heroic glory.... ..
I didn't understand a word (except maybe 'Hayabusa' in the song), but the beauty of that bird speaks volumes. A really modern design for the time. An honor to be allowed to fly it.
l' Extraordinaire Nakajima KI-43 III " Hayabusa "!
I stood next to this now rare aircraft years ago on my last trip to Oregon, impressive restoration. They did an excellent job on authenticity, bravo Tillamook people.
The armament was quickly upgraded to two 12.7mm (about .50) machineguns. This is an early war plane, it was thought that such armament was adequate to shoot down enemy planes, and it partially was for early unarmored planes, but quickly became inadequate. Gotta remind you that the americans fought pretty much the whole war with 4-6 .50 cal machineguns.
I love Oscar. Such a cutie. My favorite WW-2 Aircraft along with the Soviet WW-2 IL-2M3 Stormovick. Especially this late model. Has the IJAAF markings of the 54th Sentai.
This is a flawed 90% reproduction of the Nakajima Ki-43-II. For one, the exhaust is wrong. The Ki-43 Hayabusa (Oscar) had short, single exhaust stacks at the 3 and 9 o'clock position at the cowling trailing edge. The multiple short pipes as found on this example are what what used on the much superior Ki.84 "Frank"; a fighter that only appeared during the last years of the war. Not to take away from this excellent reproduction but sometimes little details stand out.
Eric Mowrey The canopy and engine is 10% sizeup according to the video description, I cant help but wonder that the airframe is pretty original though :)
The title says it is a model -III, not a model -II. The multiple stacks appear correct (or pretty darn close) for a model -III version. The narrator says this isn't an original Nakajima HA-115 engine, but a Pratt & Whitney R-1830-92 engine. Because it was slightly larger than the Nakajima (74mm) they had to modify the cowling.
For f*ck's sake, have anyone else tried the YT subtitles in here? I turned them on, and this is the translation of the song proposed by YT: "Ah ah ah Me Ani Ah ah ah Engine no 4 55 Hayabusa is flexible Put your parents up The better the better 4 on the chest We r Goo mee mee mee lie Baggot 5 What moment Ha good par hey Maintenance orf Haba Good It would be Nishi Ikuta U Air battle Whispering So hungry Pressurize do Noo noo noo How many stars frosts you get Those who have 7 times of emotions Tears in the shadows of isao Hi Ma 1 Autumn Norfolk End is lowland World goal Ah sine oo Extend sweetness 4th No matter what Oh, I’m worried Ah, finely ah Me Good Ah ah ah Me. " Geez, that sounds like good acid trip. 0.o And BTW - What the actual f*ck is Nishi Ikuta???????????? :0
I'm a little bit confused because the title says that its a ki43 IIIb. I thought the 3b was only built as a prototype with 2 20mm cannons so i wonder if this really is a 3b

my favorite ww2 fighter "hayabusa"
A beautiful plane, and beautiful music as well.
Respect for the japanese pilots who fought bravelly in WWII.

It saddens me that so few Japanese aircraft survive today. They did more than copy, they improved and built some amazing aircraft.

Nice touch to play the main theme from Katou Hayabusa Sento-tai at the end.

BEAUTIFUL MACHINE WITH THE MARKINGS OF THE 54TH SENTAI.I AM A STRAIGHT MALE,BUT THERE IS SOMETHING REALLY CUTE ABOUT OSCAR.
XD ikr
A most beautiful and elegant design...clean lines and with a deadly purpose... War demanded those qualities ...must be a joy to fly....
I love this model aircraft and Japanese machines
Nice match for the Grumman F4F-3/4. Or any allied fighter if flown by a Japanese Top Gun. Beautiful Aircraft.
Quel bel avion !
Beautiful aircraft 😍😍😍😍 ! Wales UK

Nope, the Oscar was completely Japanese-designed. The only thing it has in common with the Fw-190 is that both are low-winged radial-engined fighters.
nakajima Ki43/44/84 is most beautiful japanese aircraft in WWII
How does the Oscar compare with the Zero? Is it just as fast and maneuverable as the Zero? 🇯🇵
I didn't realize there was one still flying
Someone please repost with English subtitles.
still in airworthy conditions?
Please upload English captions 😭🙋
I understand the Hayabusa was just a little slower than the ZEKE...!!!
I think that's Erickson plane in OREGON.
now if only we had a flyable N1K2J or a flyable KI 84
There used to be a flyable Ki-84 at Planes of Fame, but unfortunately it went to a museum in Japan.
You can add a Ki-100 to the wish list.
Pac1fic0
I saw, its in Chiran, saw pictures of it, but can't find any footage of when it flew
Pac1fic0
true, I think there is just one of those
Pac1fic0 can you give me a link to that Ki-84 you are talking about? Thank you

HI!
So the Hayabusa was only used by the Japanese Army and not the Japanese Navy?
@Roger Enright Lol! Lol! That's some funny shit right there !! I don't care who you are !!
