- Music people love to hate. So why do people hate Styx? I thought this song was great, especially since they were singing it live.

who in the world hates Styx. They're great!
Many many hard rock fans hate them....because they could play hard rock, but they also played ballads like this. If you like Led Zeppelin, Rush, etc.. you're not allowed to like Styx as well.
Back then it was true that most all the big acts sounded just as good live. Artists just did not tweak their work anywhere like they do in the studio today. There was no auto tune nor computer generated instruments. It was all done with real live talent whether they were recording or touring.
Absolute timeless classic.
I was going to comment, but I already did. What a sound. Thank you.
Beautiful song! Styx is a great rock band from the 70's-80's. They had so many great songs such as "Lady", "Lorelei", "Suite Madame Blue", "Come Sail Away", "Renegade", "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)", "The Best of Times", "Too Much Time On My Hands", "Show Me The Way", "Don't Let It End", "Why Me", "Borrowed Time", "Rockin' The Paradise", "Mr. Roboto" etc.
Same people that SAYS they hate Nickelback.
STYX is one of my favorite all time bands! I have seen them live about 8 times. They are the best arena rock bands
I've seen them 3 times
This girl loves Styx and doesn’t care who knows lol.
This was a couples song back in the day. Like at the roller rink when they called out: "couples only". This was one of those love songs that you held hands with your girlfriend to, back in the day. Or jammed along to while cruising the streets with your girl on a Saturday night. I was just coming of age in the late 1970's and early 80's. Styx remind me of a much more simpler time in my life. It's a generational thing, I think.
First song I ever slow danced to and I'll remember it forever.
Styx played a show at my high school gym in the 70’s. This song just hit it big but they still came and did their show. Cool guys. Dennis Deyoung’s still got it, too.
My oldest brother saw them at Mendel Catholic in Chicago in the early days.
I saw Styx just last year, with REO Speedwagon and Loverboy, great show.
Loved listening to Styx on the radio. They were all over those radiowaves back in the day. They certainly were bigtime once upon a time. Believe it or not. Love ya Tasha. Keep em coming. Peace Fam. Later.
Merry Christmas Iris 40 yes
Many of a high school dance, I went to, they always played this song for a slow dance. That was way back in the 80s Tasha.
One of my favorite bands I grew up with in the 70s and 80s. Very talented musicians.
I love Styx ! This is one of favs❤
Styx is one of the classic rock bands still touring that I haven't seen in concert. I really want to see them. Last week I saw Stevie Nicks and Billy Joel. Tonight I going to Steely Dan and the Eagles.
Dennis wasn't writing about breaking up, this was his tribute to his lovely wife staying at home while he is on show tours, aching to be at home with her.
Styx- Pieces of Eight is one of my favorite albums.
Yes. That and The Grand Illusion are my two most favorite albums. But i love all of there albums lol
Tasha, I grew up listening to Styx. My God-Sister and I both sang, so we’d going around in my ‘76 Datsun 610 Hatchback singing to the songs on the radio. We loved harmonizing! We’d play all Styx songs and this song is one we loved harmonizing to. They don’t make music like this anymore.
I loved this song when I was in highschool
He wrote this song for his wife. It was never supposed to be a recorded but I believe their manager said you’ve got to record this. Styx is amazing, don’t know who would hate them. ❤
Dennis DeYoung and the twin Panozzo brothers started playing together in 1961 at the age of 12. Dennis played accordion, John played drums and Chuck played guitar, though he would later switch to bass when they became a quartet/quintet. They would play private parties in peoples' basements or neighborhood events.
I’m so glad your patreon people (I’d be one but I’m a bit economically challenged right now) suggested this epic classic. You guys rock!
Leavin On A Jet Plane by Peter Paul & Mary-a group called Rose Garden had Next Plane to London-there are plane songs out there-you just have to find them.
I personally love Styx and I’m not ashamed to say it. Their music is the closest thing to time traveling for me and makes me emotional no matter how many times they come on.
Love Styx have for decades Dennis DeYoung is a Legendary song writer musician and vocalist
I grew up through the 70's, I don't know anybody that hates Styx, they have great songs.
I’m a proud Styx fan saw them in concert so good still. I think in 2016. With REO Speedwagon.
Ya as mentioned Sweet Madam Blue its a banger
Sade Sweetest taboo
Hell No let the haters hate I grew up with Styx in high school they are an incredible band!!!
I love Styx. Always have. 😊
Great times for me growing up with STYX!!!!
This is absolutely beautiful!!
Love Styx!
I loved Styx, they were great!!!! ❤
I’ve seen them live with original singer and new singer.. always a great show
They are awesome and I saw them in concert the paradise tour!
Went to lots of Styx opening for headliners before they opened…70’s
I love Styx. The best of times is a good song as well.
Dennis De Young wrote this for his wife, never intending to record it for the band. Once they heard the song, they insisted that he record it.
Styx won't play it at their live shows without Dennis
It was around this time with “Babe” that Styx was voted America’s favorite rock band in a nationwide Gallop Poll.
They remain my favorite band to this day and it’s not even close. BTW, it looks like you’re wearing the same shirt Dennis DeYoung wore for their 1996 “Return To Paradise” Reunion Tour “live” video recording that went Gold. It’s probably gone Platinum by now. Check it out! 👍🏻
"Leavin' on a Jet Plane" by John Denver, "Early Morning Rain" by Gordon Lightfoot.
I saw Styx in the 70's and they were great. I don't know anyone who doesn't like Styx.
just FYI the audio is the studio track, it's not live. the audience sound was added for the video clip. I would also like to hear "fooling yourself" by Styx.
I love Styx!! Awesome band!! 😅
My favorite band of all time.
I've loved this song since 1980!
You need to do the rest of Styx!!!
styx grand illusion, 1977, lots of bangers
You can do a comparison if you want, but music from back in the day had no auto tune it was pure talent!
Love Styx..
My band of all time
Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver
First, who doesn't like Styx? Great band! Dennis DeYoung has split from the group and does his own thing. Saw him on a summer night about seven years ago and he is still phenomenal!! Songs with someone leaving on a plane? John Denver singing with Mama Cass Elliott singing "Leaving On A Jet Plane" is magic! And Elton John's song "Daniel" also features the same theme. Live songs? I would recommend Queen doing "White Queen" from the Odeon Hammersmith, and Meatloaf doing "Bat Out Of Hell"! I saw The Cars back in the day just as they hit it big and they weren't ready to make the jump from bar band to arenas. They sounded fine but were like statues or mannequins on stage. No movement, no personality. I assume they got better later but I never saw them again so I'm not sure.
Styx is great, and I got to see them back in the 90s. Paid $12.50 a ticket. Told my girlfriend and friends we were with… I’d of paid $50.00 a ticket. That’s how good they were.
Huge Styx fan here. This video was made for MTV from the studio recording with added audience sound. This was the usual to produce a video for your album's recording.
Styx sounded, and still sounds great live; so not having bad live audio was not the motivation.
Check out their "Caught In The Act" live album from 1983 or "Return To Paradise" from their 1996 tour(15-24 years after initial releases).
Since you said you like Styx, you've heard a number of their songs before. Let me suggest a few deeper cuts you may not have already heard: "Man In The Wildernes", "CASTLE WALLS", "Clair De Lune/Ballerina", "Prelude 12/Suite: Madame Blue", "Queen Of Spades", "Pieces Of Eight", "Boat On The River", "A Day", "Young Man", "Best Thing", "Snowblind", "Love In The Midnight", "Shooz", "Light Up", "Mademoiselle", "Man Of Miracles", "The Serpent Is Rising", and "The Grove Of Eglantine".
Of course, you may not have heard these hits: "Fooling Youself", "Lady", "Crystal Ball", "Lorelei", "The Best Of TImes", "Blue Collar Man" , and "Show Me The Way".
You should have already heard: "Renegade" and "Come Sail Away" (hopefully NOT the cut-down MTV official video).
Arguably their most famous song, and best seller. But give a listen to Foolin' Yourself or Blue Collar Man or Miss America.
Styx one of the greatest of all time. Check out "silver wings". Not sure of the artist, but they're leaving on a plane, not a train.
Sweetheart, try John Denver, I'm Leaving On A Jet Plane 😆
STYX 4-Life.
Im not sure where you got that Styx was hated when Dennis DeYoung was lead singer. I never heard that. 🤨
Styx was great! Except maybe that whole Mr. Roboto thing. Every "comedian" in high school had to tell the same joke like I never heard it.
Another band that ppl love to hate is Nickleback. Nickelback is another band that has a lot of great hard and ballad type songs that are worth reacting to. Hopefully some day you might want to check them out. Chad Kroger is the front man for the band and he has a very unique style and voice.
This looks like audio is the studio version. Not sure why.
There are two sides to Styx. They are actually a good rock band, but most people know the other side (the hated side) which is the Dennis DeYoung driven heavy ballad band. This is the part I could do without. They have some great rock songs. I have seen them live back in the 80's they were great. but they were playing most of the Rock songs on tour, not too heavy on the ballads. Listen to some of the rock stuff.
I would like you to listen sometime to the song "Time" by the Alan Parsons Project. To me , that is the most beautiful song i have ever heard, it's a bit sad, but it is soo beautiful, when you get the chance. I think you will like it👀😉
Love Styx, no shame
I love Styx I grew up listening to them, it just like Nickleback a lot of haters hate for no reason at all, they just jealous
Sappy! 🤨
I don’t like when bands speed up tempo for live performances. Styx didn’t do that here so good for them. The tempo is part of the song and the reason you stand in line and pay for a ticket.
What misguided soul told you that "so many people hate Styx"?
It's true. Styx has a lot of haters. Do some googling on the subject.
@@BDUBZ49 It's the Internet, Everyone has haters...
@@Progressive_Canadian There ya go. Styx is no exception.
@@BDUBZ49 Yup there ya go, lol.
Who TF hates Styx!?
Never heard of that.
Not a "literal" train , you got that right??
Duh
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU ON THE OTHER CHANNEL???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I’m still there lol
who hates Styx?? That's preposterous!
Definitely one of their weaker songs. A hit? yes.. but weak.
number 1 billboard their only one people choice award for best song songwriter magazine song of the year and gold single
