    This is the voice of Styx to me...Dennis DeYoung. I love the band, and they have good singers in James Young and Tommy Shaw, but I really connect with Dennis's voice. The expressiveness, the timbre, the sheer facility that he has across the board, he was blessed as a singer. This song still brings tears to my eyes even now... Way back in the early eighties, I was engaged to my future husband, he was in the Forces and I worked for the Forces in the UK.. He used to leave from Wendover Train Station, to get to London and then fly back to his Regiment in Germany...
    Many times this scenario happened, waiting on the platform for the train to come.. Watching him leave and walking back to the Camp I working in, with tears streaming down my cheeks and hoping a letter would come soon..
    One phone call a week, on a Friday evening...
    We were together for 36 years and married for nearly 34 ...
    Now it is even more poignant as my best beloved husband passed away 3 and a half years ago, no more holding hands, kisses, or hugging.. Just wonderful memories to keep me going.. *sighs*
    Best wishes to you Jamel, from Wales

    The seventies was a part of my teenage years....I know I can be somewhat "bias" when it comes to music....Nothing can even come close to the excitement and the amount of "rock and roll" in this genre....that is if you don't count the start of it all....The Great Fifties....SO MUCH GREAT MUSIC!!!.....

    Dennis DeYoung's voice was so good, one of the local Chicago DJ's had him on in the morning back then and was blown away at how clear his voice was even at 7 AM. No cracking or popping.
    RIP the Loop FM 98 Chicago. No longer broadcasting rock.

    Oh, this makes me cry. .When my (now 23 year old) son was small, he thought they were saying "James" I love you. We have always sang it that way, and it's a special song for me & my "baby boy". He now lives 3 hours away, and I'm missing him terribly today. So glad I saw this

    There are a LOT of great songs: Lorelei, Suite Madame Blue, Boat on the River, Too Much Time on My Hands, Fooling Yourself, Renegade...they were my first favorite band growing up. I went on a vacation with my folks to Quebec and found out the radio only played French music--my Spanish classes didn't help me much! So I wore out the one tape I brought: Styx: Pieces of Eight. Two weeks and I had every song memorized. And so began my trip down the rabbit hole...

    My favorite part of ALL these younger reactors.... they seem to know nothing about lip synching. These artists were sent out to make videos and perform on, like, Solid Gold... and almost all of the time they were made to lip sync to the radio version of their popular songs

    • @klaptongroovemaster
      @klaptongroovemaster 4 года назад +5

      You'll find that some of them made fun of not really playing while making those old videos. The Doors, Cream, the Who... Keith Moon making faces at the camera waving his sticks in the air, then suddenly going back to pretending to play mockingly. The older the band, the harder it is to find real live performances.
