The law stated that you had to be 18 to sign up and 19 to serve overseas in the British Armed Forces. However thousands of boys and young men under this age requirement managed to volunteer for the army by lying about their age or making up false names.

13 year old boys during combat: so that was a f*cking lie
Lol lol
The only thing fun about war is the fact that you can relate with someone and meet new people that are as willing as you are
Well the things is, up until WWI war was very different, “rules of war” had kinda made it all somewhat of a “gentlemen’s game”, with proper treatment of prisoners, and in the latest war before WWI even seeing soldiers being told “wound dont kill” it was more like a large chess game, WWI saw the first real war in in Europe in probably over a decade, with the germans going in with real tactics to destroy the enemies. So its easy to see why a young boy would see a new war as an adventure

Without readily available information about the horrors of war, it's quite remarkable how enthusiasm of young people was exploited.
That's the power of propaganda
I don’t even think it was propaganda. Nothing could prepare anyone for the horrors of trench warfare, so all these old school people who legitimately believed war war was glorious and good saw no reason to stop their kids from getting their own glory and adventure. Sure, the british werent correcting people, but soldiers on leave told stories that got laws changed, as demonstrated in the video
@@jacksonpalmer8955 How do you think those old school people legitimately believed war was glorious and good? Through propaganda.

In Serbian army was a boy named Momchilo Gavrich. He served Serbian army with age of 8! He was even promoted to a corporal. His family was killed by Austro-Hungarian soldiers, he managed to escape and found a Serbian artilery group. The commander of that group let him stay with them, and even let him fire the cannon three times per day, to avenge his family. In 1917. he was wounded on Solun front. He was in army till the end of the war, and after war he was decorated for his service.

Daniel Kunkle do you mean that they took anyone with a pulse or something else?
Able to carry a rifle and you could join it seemed.
Daniel Kunkle Like Deborah Simpson ? Yes. But some of them had to go back home once they went to medical visit.
Very feeeew women actually fought in WWI. Like 0,001%. I can pick the British example of Flora Sanders who fought in the Serbian army. Or the Serbian woman who fought in the Serbian army, became a heroine in her homeland and died in misery. Her name was Milunska Savic.
Dude could you imagine a 13 years old kid charging into the Frontline? Now its a 9 years old kid screaming at the Mic when playing Battlefield....

I have mad respect that people my age (16) were brave enough to fight in that war.
T T they weren't brave most were simply tricked by propoganda into believing it would be fun and full of adventure. Adults should have gone not the future generations. Thats why we as adults fight the war in the first place to protect our kids.
Rage Raptor Well yes that's true. But I'm sure many of them either wanted to joint to get away from something or as I said just wanted to fight in the war.

Oh yeah Momcilo Gavric is his name, he joined at age 7 when his entire family was killed by austrians, and by age 8 he was promoted to corporal he fough in several battles and by 1918 he was promoted to lance sergeant, he survived the war
Mixer WTF? and no one said nothing about this?
Attie Pollard well yes they did Serbian field marshall Zivojin Misic while inspecting units on salonika front saw the boy, and asked the officer what is this kid doing here, when the officer told him the kids story and that entire regiment considers him their lucky charm, Field Marshal Misic promoted the boy to lance seargent. But simply after the boy's family was killed he was taken by soldiers to them he told about what happened to his family so boy guided Serbian soldiers to his house where they took revenge on Austrian soldiers that killed his family and after that frankly he had nowhere to go, so the soldiers cared for him and he stayed in that unit until the end of war
No jodas! Need a vídeo about this..
Did any of them ever kill a enemy think about that getting shot by a 12 year old
Fawn Dunkin yeah that happens to me all the time in battlefield 1
hshgf
When I was 12 I was able to shoulder a Lee enfield but I couldn't fire it as I'm in the UK and it was deactivated
+Fawn Dunkin Yes, they did. Actually, the youngest soldier in the WWI was Serbian boy Momčilo Gavrić, who was only eight years old when he joined the Serbian army. In 1914, Austro-Hungarian soldiers maimed and hanged his father, mother, grandmother, his three sisters, and four of his brothers. Their house was also set on fire. He joined the army in order to survive, not because of adventures, such as volunteers in this video. Sebian major accepted Gavrić into his unit after hearing about what had happened, and assigned a soldier in the unit to be his caretaker. Soon after, he was promoted to the rank of corporal, and given a military uniform. He also participated in the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki front, after which he was promoted to the rank of Lance Sergeant by Serbian Field Marshal Živojin Mišić, and the order was read out to the whole division. He was wounded during the war, and had received the Albanian Commemorative Medal.

My great grandfather ran away to fight at the Somme at age 16. He was sent home after a year because his uncle found out. Then immediately joined the airforce.
Things like this show that blind patriotism can often overcome basic morals as the idea of going off to war had become so romanticized and encouraged by the Government that people were willing to let underage boys in to war for a bit more money, parents were convinced that having their boy go off to war at such a young age because it was for the country. Soldiers would be more seen as numbers then people, which probably led to many almost suicidal attacks to gain a few meters of ground.
World War One is so notorious for being such a terrible war likely because people didn’t seem to care for anyone else, because the ends must justify the means.
Bobby Ferg also it shows how when they come back the government is so reluctant to take care of them and they create fake ad campaigns and do stuff like telling veterans to stand before sporting events start to make them feel good about themselves
You have to remember during the times of war depending in the ones even the younger people worked like they were adults even in the war they can walk yo get a beer no questions asked I have mag or respect for all who chise to fight and I'm 14 now and if my country went to war I would gladly attempt to inlist

Military : "Look at a 18 year" you will become a soldier
12 year old boy : I will become a soldier
Military : Wait that's illegal
Some much respect for those children, they did what most 30 year men wouldn't even think about nower days
Michael i dont respect them most went becuase of ignorant propaganda to incourage youth. And led on by false lies of depth and adventure. They likely died believing a better life was possible. but in the end it was their future that was distroyed. We as adults fight wars to keep our children, the future generations, safe and secure. To simply send off our kings and queens of the future to such a terrible war is honestly disgusting.
You make some good points, but they gave their young lives so we could have ours in pace, we can't forget nor disrespect that.

Some Kid: *I am bored*
My great grandfather born in 1899 enlisted when he was 15 at the start of the war. Many of his brothers and cousins did the same, but weren't as lucky as he was and didn't return.

My great grandfather enlisted when he was 14 (1915) then continued to serve through the Second World War as well

That's how kids played Battlefield in 1914.
My FIL was a 17 yr old at Peleliu with the 1st MarDiv; got 2 Purple Hearts. He stayed in, did Okinawa, Inchon, Chosin Reservoir and the Mekong Delta. It definitely happens in many countries.
