On durability: The BDSM tree repairs *broken* equipment too. It's not useless at all, when your old whips or dragon ring+3 break, or your rare/rings of sacrifice which aren't deleted on death in ds2, you can just go whip the tree instead of spending several thousand souls for repair. Getting invaded by script kiddies throwing 9000 corrosive urns per second at you and breaking all your gear meant a trip to the tree. I'm also surprised how rarely you used repair powder. It has nearly no animation and it's unlimited supply from Wellager eventually ... I think the trigger for that is after you defeat the giant lord and his inventory updates. Flynn's ring + old whip as a direct damage power house would have been another style to try (though aava and sinh having extra bugged durability loss would still suck.) We used a ton of repair powder for weapon arts and repairing 3rd dragon ring back in pvp. Loved the narration and the journey, always happy to see more DS2. Keep at it!
Also definitely felt that about DS2 being slower and letting you learn the bosses better. I basically only know the big showstopper moves from ER bosses because the game plays so fast, rolls come so easy, and stamina management is largely not a concern. In DS1 and DS2 you spend a lot more time paying attention to the boss to make sure you can time your rolls right and keep from running out of stamina and I like the way that challenges you. Also "vanilla cool whip" was clever.

Whips are kinda alright in Elden Ring. They don't compare to curve swords or great swords but are solid. I prefer a whip over a dagger to be honest. Outside Reduvia. Like the only exception because of its broken ash of war

Usually challenges are difficult to replicate and/or bothersome to try yourself. But this one, surprisingly, looks very fun. A unique moveset, several drawbacks but also powerful when used right. Thank you for making this video, might actually give it a go myself. Edit: Also, about item discovery. I remember seeing a page on the wiki (Fextralife) where people did their best to understand how it works since this mechanic is hidden. The data they compiled is weird because it shows, well... you actually get less items if you equip all the possible discovery gear, probably because some items cancel each other out or something? But you also can't tell anything for certain since there's no ingame info. Man, DS2 is quirky.
46:43 The whip tree is EXTRA special, it's actually able to repair broken items as well. Extremely helpful if you're running agape for twinking or just not using the smith for whatever reason on a no-bonfire run.
Currently doing a Bloodied Whip run and it’s so damn tough, yet fun lol. I was aiming to do a scythe only run and the whip randomly dropped with its very low rate lol. Currently have it +7 !!

I'd say abusing poison is very satisfying to me, and I prefer shorter, faster weapons like daggers and shortswords ^.^ P.s. My favorite weapon class is reapers, which are kinda fiddly to make work in DS2 :/

You might be struggling with weapon durability due to your FPS. In Backlogs' Scythe run, he was having issues with his weapons breaking quicker than normal because of a higher FPS on PC possibly causing the weapon to register as striking multiple times, even if the damage didn't always reflect that? I'm only 10 minutes in so far, so maybe you talk about it later on, but just wanted to comment this before my ADHD forces me to forget this later on.

You said only part of the name and pretty quickly at that. So I was extremely confused in how you fought the Demon Boss again. It took a few replaying of the scenes and googling to figure out you used a Bonfire Ascetic to 'reset' the area/boss to NG. I never heard of that mechanic (DS2 is my least played of them). I probably the read the description on the Bonfire Ascetic, once upon a time, saw the "strengthens nearby foes" and wrote the item off as crazy thing for try-hards mess with.
Old Whip is great for Hollow enemies cuz it deals bonus damage to them, iirc this includes the NPCs you fight in the game too. So that huge chunk of damage you did in the Gank Squad fight near the end with Old Whip is cuz of the bonus from Old Whip vs Hollow.
Dark Souls 2's durability system is based on frame rate. The reason you struggled so much with whips breaking is because of the high FPS you get on pc making the weapons degradation trigger many times every attack.
Oh wow. Genuinely had no idea they were this cool. If DS2 did anything right it's the weapons... the fun factor of every weapon reminds me of Bloodborne, with every one having something interesting about it.. it's not quite as good, there are definitely bad options, but theres wayyyy more of them so it balances out lol. Might have to use whips next time i play ds2, especially for those swing animations lol. Theyre a bit stiff but I kinda love it?? In general, I really appreciate your souls videos (I'm getting to the other ones soon!!); pointing out all the little uses for things like "use Lead Elixir here" or "use the whip against these dangling guys" has made me consider breaking out of the habit of not experimenting in these games. Makes things a lot more fun when you actually use the game's tools

Whips and halberds are my favorite types of weapons in these games. With my favorite being the old whip, with the spotted whip being a close second since there one of the easiest poison procing methods in the series.

I didn't do whips only on my first (and only) DS2 run, but I sure leaned on them heavy. Love that strike damage and being able to slap through walls.

The only thing holding whips back in Elden Ring are the lack of Ashes. I think they'd otherwise surpass Halberds and Greatswords in that game.
