I always try to find out the background of history based operas but for this one I could find any references in the Polish historical records -however subsequently I found out that in the dedication Leonardo Vinci dedicated it to the Old Pretender who was the Jacobite pretender to the English throne and living in exile in Rome. James Stewart alias the Old Pretender was married to a Polish princess (whose name I cant spell -Clementina Sobieska I think who is buried in St Peter's cathedral) and so a faux story from Polish history was chosen.
I go to her starry eyes, whose beams illuminate this breast with their soft radiance. The skies see nothing more beautiful, just as when the storm is becalmed on the ocean and the helmsman sighs his relief.
Better give some of the roles to good mezzos/altos than to mediocre countertenors. Only one worth listening to is Cenčić. Seems like countertenors have become the default in castrato roles which should not be the case. We should have the best singers in the particular Fach for each role, this music deserves it.
One of the best Operas ever.

Grazie tanto, Edipo!
1:05:45 Tu me tradisti, ingrato (It sounds dramatically handelian)
Why give Primislao to a Mezzo-soprano when it’s a Tenor role 😢 ?

One of the soprani falls victim to verismo.
