As a lifelong fan of FFVIII this series was such a delight.
There’s plenty of stuff I either forgot or never quite pieced together until I saw this trilogy, most especially the lore bits about Hyne.
Often times the best lore bits in games are the most elusive ones!

Technically, Rinoa's SeeD contract is never broken. Squall even acknowledges it. It's one of their cuter romance bits.

    First of all...
I want to commend You on this massive project of an unabridged timeline of my favorite Final Fantasy installment. Watching it brought back many fond memories; especially those of my Mother whom I lost December 2nd of last year. I remember back in August of 1999 my Mother buying me FF8 after just looking at it at a Target. This title was also the beginning of me going to college so I truly gravitated to the young characters and grew as they grew in the game; to the point where I felt like I was part of their experiences.
Although I played FFVII before VIII (it was my introduction to the franchise), I never truly finished the game. I would watch my cousin play it and ultimately beat it.
But FF8...man...it was the first FF I played through. I felt when Squall was unraveling. I fell in Love with Rinoa and Her free spirit. And the addition of "Eyes on Me" during the end scene broke me. It was the first video game that made me cry. I truly thought Squall was completely separated from those whom he realized he truly Loved; especially Rinoa.
But I think it was the flashback/timetravel of Laguna and Raine that really got me and how he never got to say goodbye to Her. At the time I thought Ellone had given him the chance via Her ability but didn't realize that he was reminiscing at her gravesite.
After finishing this game, it left me wanting to create a story so character driven that folks would Feel each and every moment.
ThANKH You for this series of videos. It truly helped me relive some of my most precious childhood transitioning to young adult moments.
And ThANKH You so much for including a lot of the lore either buried deep in the game or found only in Ultimanias. It truly added a lot of meat to parts of the story that had to be cut.
As far as the next unabridged timeline?
I think Final Fantasy XII would be interesting; especially with how much of the lore was in the description of the monsters and items and not in the playable story. And of course it's wider Ivalice connection to Tactics & Vagrant Story.
But if that's a toooo large of an undertaking, maybe FF9 perhaps..
    Great job🙏🏻

After watching this series, I feel so strongly about FF8 deserving a remake. It’s similar to FF7 in the sense that a lot of this information isn’t given to you in the game. Or at least, not without really digging around. I think it could benefit from a remake where they incorporate all this lore and information. Like I literally thought Ultimecia being the main villain was kinda random, but with all her back story it makes so much sense. The same with Cid knowing Squalls destiny and the decisions he makes towards him.

Replaying these games are always fun but now because of your hard work and dedication I am able to come revisit these stories like an audio book.

    • @mikeclark7026
      @mikeclark7026 Месяц назад

X isn’t fascinating. You just think it is.
This is the legit X timeline of important things.
1,000 years ago the 2 super powers clashed. One of them was destined to win by their power, so the other crested Sin and and a Dream Zanarkand so they would never fade away. Whioe this was happening Lenne and Shuyin died. This would lead to things 1,000 years later. Zaon gave his life to become Paragon, the first ever Final Aeon, and Yunalesca died and was unsent, Paragon killed Sin, Sin became Paragon as the new Sin, Yevon was founded.
3 more times in history Sin is killed by summoners. Otherwise the world is at a constant standstill for a Millennia. At some point in time the Crusaders are created.
THAT’S IT. Like truly nothing in the backstory of this game happens major at all for 1,000 years, all the stuff in the world that matters starts with Braska’s journey or Seymour’s pilgrimage. Whichever came first. And unless they ever give us FF X-0 we have seen in video all we are ever gonna see if Braska’s journey. Some stuff obviously happens after the eternal calm as well. So you want a multi part video on a war, 1,000 years of terror where again, NOTHING HAPPENS and then the 12 or so years from Braska’s journey to the conclusion of X-2

Final Fantasy V could be an interesting story to go through, since it's not as well known to the English-speaking world as the ones past VII, and it has some interesting twists and turns in its history. I could see it being a four parter, between the Dawn Warriors, Bartz's World, Galuf's World, and The Whole World, though the videos would probably not be quite as long as in this one.

I could never get into FF8 and this allowed me to really experience the story in a deeper way than I ever would have been able to by playing it and putting together the lore bits because I just wasn't that interested in the game. As for the next one, my favorite game in the series is Tactics but I'm positive that FFXI would make for a much more interesting lore series, and there is far, far more story to unpack!

I would love to see the time line for either 9, 10 or the whole of ivalice (tactics, vagrant and 12)

This was absolutely fantastic, and revealed a great deal of the lore that I had missed on my many playthroughs of the game.
Personally, I'd most love to see something similar done for the FFXIII timeline. Most of the other games are fairly straightforward in their history and storytelling, where XIII is more difficult to follow.

You should really consider combing all parts of this series into a single, audio-book style offering. I throughly enjoyed listening to each one as I drove around town for work as they would come out.

I really enjoyed this series of videos and hope you continue doing these. It might be a big undertaking but I would love to see an unabridged timeline of FFXI next, or at least some point in the future.
    Thanks

To comment yet again, this video series is definitely something I will return to in the future, whenever I am itching for an FF8-flavored fix.

Wow, that was a blast of a series! Big thank you for making this. After so many years, I finally got all the story intricacies. I'm not a native English speaker and I played FF VIII all those years ago when it came out, it was an exciting story about not a typical main character, who I didn't understand but intuitively loved (almost 37 old and now I get him), living in militarized school and falling in love with a kinda irritating girl. I loved the sci-fi meets magic world again (FFVII and VIII were my first FFs and jRPGs), but I didn't understand the whole political side of the story, why chase this girl Ellone and the time travel thing. This was a much more convoluted story than FFVII for me but I loved it and finished the game like 5 or 6 times through the years. This series brought the memories back and I finally understand what I missed in the story. I need to play this game again now. I really would like for S-E to remake this game. I feel the presentation of the original could be better to sell this world and lore. Whenever I played the game, it felt like it's all about really some small city-states fighting each other (only Esthar felt bigger, like proper country) with armies of only hundreds of soldiers. Worldmap felt empty. But now I can play it again and have this series in my head and go full appreciation. Thank You, happy new year all

Also now after these videos, Ultimecia being Rinoa doesn't need to be canon in my head, but I would love it if they play with it that she might be in the remake.

Absolutely fantastic work! I’ve loved and enjoyed all four parts and the amount of research and dedication you did is truly commendable! Personally, I’d love to see the timeline of Lightning FF13 trilogy. But that’s three entire games so it’s A LOT to deal with. I’d also love a timeline of FF12 which is so rich in its history.

Final Fantasy Tactics! Even though it feels like a small game, the game has so much lore and history within the game it's easily as big as any of the numbered entries.

Loved this series and excited to see what you do next! 7 is my fav and I'm interested in the new world lore they added in the remake/rebirth games but since that is still ongoing i would think games like 9, 10, or 13 would have some of the more interesting content that isn't explored as often

This was a great series, thank you for making it. FF8 really impacted me when I first played it, as confusing as it is (I don't think it explains itself very well, so I really appreciate it being all laid out like this), and it's always stuck with me.
I'd love to see something similar for FF12, which is also one that really stuck with me but might not be presented as clearly as it could; plus the world of Ivalice is so intriguing and could use more exploration. I'd suggest FF10 as well, but you've already made so many videos on it that it might be re-treading old ground (not that I'd complain about more FF10 content).
