Welcome to Next of Ken and in this episode, we're counting down 10 Hysterical Hoedowns From "Whose Line Is It, Anyway?" The hoedown is arguably the best skit on the famous and beloved improv sketch comedy, "Whose Line." You can always be assured of a few things with every hoedown: You can guess Drew Carey will take a break from doing nothing and Ryan Stiles will casually mention how much he despises them. Well Ryan can hate them as much as he wants because we absolutely love them. So here's our favorite hoedowns from the show.

For a weird reason I sang that in my head
Ryan is actually so impressive during the last one if you noticed. His entire verse was a response to Colin’s which was RIGHT before his. Even if he had something planned in his head right before that, he changed it and thought of his verse literally within seconds. These guys are so quick, its actually brilliant
There are multiple takes and breaks in-between and then shots are edited in post production the way they want to be shown/telecasted.
Ps- not discrediting Ryan, Just pointing out an obvious fact
Rohan Mujoo Hoedowns are recorded in one take though, just use different cameras for all the different angles

@@Gunsarepeople the reason Ryan hates hoe downs is cuz they HAVE to be one take so it doesn't seem edited and all in one go. And would one person would say something they couldn't use they had to pick a whole new topic and start a whole new one from scratch...so no, hodowns are actually one game that literally is all in one go. Every game that makes it to TV actually is. This is why Ryan despised them.

Ryan hates hoedowns, they’re his least favorite game... but honestly it’s ironic because he’s the best at them
Colin is without a doubt the best in the hoedowns. Ryan is a close second but it makes sense that they are great at them seeing as they have been doing them since the 80s. No wonder he hates them!
Chip is pretty good, too.
The one about Colin's mother was one of the best I've ever heard.
Not just because of the lyrics, but because he hardly drew out any syllables, as they often do to keep it in sync.

Colin's the best, honestly. He knows they're hard to rhyme in, so when Colin can't, he doesn't try. He also speaks them instead of sings them, because fuck the hoedown. Ryan should learn from Colin's example.

I like how on the "Ryan's wife" hoedown, Colin was all like "nah bro I got you", and instead of attacking him like the others which would be the easy route, he contrasts and compliments him haha
Dont get me wrong, some of my favorite moments on this show are when they tease and clash eachother, but it's so great because it's in contrast with how well they like eachother normally haha

That's because a large number of his is about how much he hates hoedowns, or something mostly off topic from the theme of the hoedown.
I read somewhere because of any number of reasons, they end up doing multiple versions of the song per episode. And if I recall correctly, the one where he says he'd slit his wrist, they had gone over his mental limit and his patience was shot.

I LOVE the fact that Ryan gets so pissed EVERY time they do a hoedown. It cracks me up to see him and listen to him sing about it. Especially when it’s the outtakes and he comes up with his own words and the producers and shit get mad and they have to redo it. Gotta love Ryan.

They don't script the show, but sometimes things happen live that make an audio or video clip unusable, so they will have the talent redo what happened live as authentically as possible given the context of the shot, so they can fix whatever happened live at that moment.

SingenStatt Atmen If I'm not mistaken, they all hated doing the hodowns, but Ryan hated them the most. Since the show is "unedited" they have to start completely over (new topic and all) everytime someone messes up. Apparently it was the director (hence the director joke I believe) or producer who loved the hodowns which is why they had to do one for every episode. So djring a taping they could be doing incomplete hodowns over and over until they got it right!
@@Dancingpinata- Yeah I'm well aware of all that. That's why there's the famous hoedowns of Ryan about not wanting to do another one... They all hated it immensely. Still they always came up with good stuff, even if it did take them more than one go, so this still must be really weird for all involved - Ryan just throwing in the towel. Ashley Hymes They couldn't do a sketch named "Cosby and Hitler". The censor in the 90's was far more zealous and the channel was part owned by Pat Robertson. Things are far looser now than then.
And that little factoid is the reason for Ryan's line in #8 on the list.
British seasons the best. Drew as host good. Aisha whoever is terrible. New seasons are a shell of what show used to be. Started when they used celebrity guests for one segment walk ins to promote other things instead of actually following the real spirit of the show.
I have two major issues with the newer version. One is that they have WAY too many guests on the show - I tune in to see improv masters make me laugh, not to see some celebrity shill their work in the guise of a game. The second is that Aisha Tyler has the tough job of replacing the charisma and jolliness of Drew Carey; she's a good comedian but just does not fit well as the host of WLIIA. Drew had INSANE chemistry with the cast members - he was the X-factor in why the old show had a ton of charm. The newer show doesn't have a dynamic host that plays off and generates as much energy as Drew did.
The old version of Whose Line was just better. The cast played off of each other more, they could say and do things that would get them fired today. Legend has it Drew went off to count his money
Legend has it that when Colin made that clapback verse at Brad and Drew, he won all the points that day.
The funny part about Drew singing behind Ryan is that he had to stand on the step...and was still shorter.
I love watching Wayne Brady react to them, his reactions are hilarious! I never could pick a favorite cast member, they're all so great!

I think to this day the going bald one is still my favorite. Because you start out with the first two picking on Colin obviously, and then you get to Colin and by the look on his face you know damn well the first two are about to be roasted, and that's exactly what Colin does, and when it gets to Ryan you're not sure how he can possibly top what just happened, but he wraps it up perfectly with a positive. Absolute quality hoedown 👌
