In addition to all the things you’ve mentioned I think this watch has some of the best looking numerals on any dial I’ve ever seen. My wife doesn’t understand me but when talking about a grail piece I think this is mine. Forget about the Daytona, the Nautilus, RO or any perpetual calendar or minute repeater…this VC is pure class 👌

Thanks for that detailed review. Not only about the watch itself but also about what it will do. I adore the 1931. I think it is functional and elegant.
I’m wearing a sector dial watch for the last few weeks, and I love it. It is so pleasing to the eye without being fancy, and it make me feel like I’m connected to the past. It is as legible as a field watch and has the charisma of a reverso. And as a bonus it a strapmonster. The watch can change from dress to swatch-playfull just by changing the strap.

A beautiful watch Andrew! I’ve got quite a good collection of WW1, 1920’s through to WW2, 1940’s watches. A 1920’s watch I have is identical in case design as this but in normal orientation. The case though is only about half that size, being of that era. Another watch I have has the 12 o’clock at the 3 o’clock position. I know in particular pilots would have the lugs re-soldered to wear around their thighs to make the watch a lot easier to read whilst flying or I guess in a dog fight! I can definitely see the immense appeal of such a piece. Cheers from central Victoria!👍🏼😎

If you are considering this watch, do your best to try it on. I assumed the 40mm would be too big, being a non round case, but I had the opposite reaction trying it on.

Wristwatches began life as pocket watches and they simply soldered lugs on them in order to put them on the wrist during the first World War so they didn't really have much time to get into the politics of how to wear them a watch like that was easier to read with the dial on the underside of your wrist (given the juxtaposition of the movement having once been in a pocket watch ) as apposed to wearing it knuckle side up. Instead of holding your wrist across your chest as you would to read a modern watch instead you would hold your arm palm facing you upright.
