    Sarah is more folk /alternative than anything else, musically. She was the initiator of Lilith Fair, a north American rock alternative concert series featuring women singers/artists.
    Her song Angel has been the thene song for animal welfare commercials for at least a decade in both Canada and the US.
    And her name is pronounced:
    Mc glock lan, emphasis on the glock.
    She has a lot of hits, a Canadian treasure

    Great reaction Harri, Sarah McLachlan is awesome! Today, this song could definitely be a country crossover hit, but she falls into the singer/songwriter/rock category. She was played a lot on the alternative radio stations and had a few top 40 hits. Sweet Surrender is great, as is Possession, Into the Fire, and Angel. She's really great!

  • @kivimik
    @kivimik 2 года назад +3

    She's originally from Eastern Canada, so rather than country, there's a hint of Celtic folk influence in her music that's more noticeable in her earlier material (the albums, Touch and Solace). Her music is a little hard to pigeonhole, but I guess it's a little folk(ish) pop with dark undertones (egs., "Possession" and "Fear" from Fumbling Towards Ecstacy).

  • @DavidMichaelCommer
    @DavidMichaelCommer Год назад +4

    I think this song is basically about a person creating a facade, assembling a persona made of mysterious elements, to make themselves seem interesting, valuable, worth knowing, and Sarah has empathy for the motivation and the effort while also feeling sympathetic and perhaps a little bit piteous. She's basically asserting that she understands he is putting so much time and effort into making himself into this mysterious person for the sake of being alluring, and she's a little bit judgmental about it but certainly not condemning-she admires an aspect of it and understands why he is doing it; it's endearing in its own way.

    Geez Harri, you're really hitting up the Canadian content lately!! Sarah has been a favourite of mine since '91, when her second album came out. This song & album was her 'American' breakthrough, her fourth, from the late 90's, and is probably her biggest hit (but not her best song - IMHO).
    Highly suggest checking out:
    Vox, Steaming, Ben's Song (from her first album Touch - 1989)
    Into The Fire (a MUST), Drawn To The Rhythm, The Path Of Thorns (from second album Solace - 1991)
    Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (MUST listen), Possession, Fear, Ice, Wait, Good Enough, Hold On (from third album Fumbling Towards Ecstasy - 1993)
    I Love You, Sweet Surrender, Adia, Angel (another MUST) (from Surfacing - 1997, Building a Mystery on this one)
    ...that's for starters...

Don't worry about 'category ' it's very good music & that's not that common. She put out a couple concert DVD's, played mostly as record but with an additional instrumental usually.

    It's very fitting what you said about this song, and expecting it to be inpactful to women. Sarah is a full-blown advocate for women, and a power house when it comes to women and their place in life, and music for that matter. Look her up. She created a women's movement and toured the fuck out of it!

    I think you have the right of it...
    Most men want to just be...she's digging deep to understand all...I think that is one of the difficulties in relationships...why ?...the allure is sometimes the mystery..the hidden that makes the other interesting...you know the old saying "familiarity breeds contempt" ...once you know all the bumps and bruises..the glamour fades...
    So ladies..let him be...when and if someone shares willingly then you will have a deeper understanding and perhaps there will still be some desire in your relationship...🌿🌿🌿

    She sort of became the hub of the burdgeoning female solo artist scene in the 90s with her Lilith Fair Festival tours. She was the only one on the scene I ever got into and she forged a quite distinctive and feminine songwriting style over a number of decent albums. For me the album this is off (Surfacing) was her best, most consistently good and flowing work, I can still easily listen to it start to finish, but there are some wonderful standout tacks on her other albums such as "Fear", "The Path of Thorns", "Possession", "Ice" and "Answer".

    She is a fabulous artist, with a large number of great songs.
    Unfortunately, like a few other artists, most videos - even live ones, get blocked by the lords of YT.
    So not as many reactions to her as there should be.
    Harri seems to do quite well getting past blockages though, so who knows.
    I would personally have told him to avoid other serial account strikers like Billy Joel, The Eagles, Bjork, Fleetwood Mac and others - but he seems to be getting them done, so I say well done - but be very careful.
