The Nobull Trainer's traction if very good for basketball drills and basketball training in my opinion and the more forgiving but sill sturdy structure makes it very viable for basketball pick-up games in my opinion.
I'm still a huge Metcon fan. They do everything but like you say, as a heal striker, they aren't great for running WOD's. I use the Inov8 F-lite G300 for those. They're fantastic and probably the best all-rounder that I have found. Great comfort for day-to-day wear too.

Have worn the metcons, RADs, and inov8 235’s. RADs are definitely too stiff and narrow for me to even think about workouts in them. I’ve always hated the heel in metcons. Inov8s have been my go to trainer. Haven’t tried the 300 yet. It will probably be my next trainer! Great review!

Nice video man!!!! The small improvements you keep making are piling up!!!!!!! Crushing it! 🔥 Also, love these “smaller” brands!! I have never heard of most; but wow! They seem great!
Thank you, Ryan! IMO, the days of Reebok/Nike ruling the CrossFit scene are long gone. These smaller companies have been really crushing the game and leveling up what we should be looking for in shoes.
I definitely second the opinion on the puma fuse 2. It will take some time to break in. At least for me the upper seemed stiff the first day. But eased up after the first day. The second day with my back, glutes and hams, it felt good.
It's an interesting shoe and better than the first, I'm just skeptical how they're going to hold up over time, so I tread lightly when I say they're absolutely fantastic for CrossFit-only training!
Thank you for the review! Which one would be a good shoe for days when I do some running and some lifting, as a heel striker? I currently have Metcon 5s, Metcon 7s, Nano 9 and Nike Free Metcon 4, and prefer the latter for such workouts, but they still don't feel too great during runs, and I'm curious if there's something better. The Metcons and the Nanos have a really stiff heel which makes them very uncomfortable during runs (I'm 230lb that could be part of the reason why). Love the Metcons for lifting days though.
None of these will necessarily be great for that context, tbh, as they're not designed for that. However, I think the RAD would be the most forgiving with a little heel strike, though! Thank you for checking out the video!
Hi, I am new to CrossFit, so I need a suitable pair of shoes. Just saw some of your videos...great stuff, thanks for that! I am just torn between the Nike Metcon 8 and the UA Tribase Reign 4. Which one would you recommend. I am just doing CrossFit - for running I do have other shoes which I would use further on. Thanks a lot!
Nike Metcon 8 runs a little more narrow and has less versatility but is awesome for lifting, while the TriBase will give you more regarding its versatility and it has a flatter feel due to its lower drop. Both shoes should work well for you, IMO! You could also look into something like the Nano X2 for a blend of lifting/versatility, but that model's durability can be hit or miss especially with rope climbs (which is why I didn't want to include them into my CF-only round-up this year).
@@thatfitfriend Hi Jake, thanks a lot for your feedback! Really appreciated!!! I was just about to buy the Metcon 8, but if you say they are more narrow, I guess, I will go for the TriBase as I need a shoe with a bit of a bigger toe box.

Awesome content and information once again! I love my nano 9s but haven’t found another shoe similar. Do you have a recommendation from this list that would be comparable?

Thank you 🤝 Ugh, this is the second comment they’ve been mentioned! I should have included them. I sat on them for a while, tbh. Could have been a good low drop option for some!
Jake, lets do a deep dive into Rad similar to the one you did last year with GoRuck. Having the engineer and lead creator of the shoe was awesome. So many questions that need to be asked of the Rad folks. I'm currently waiting to hear back from them concerning the Brand Ambassador invite that I got. Rad is my easy number one all around winner. Love the review, however you never say much that I can come back with as far as a disagreement. LOL
That's a dope idea. Could even see if they would want to come on a podcast episode in the future. I want to start hosting more shoe folks as the pod grows - great suggestion! In re: Ambassador: That's awesome, keep me posted on how that goes. I'm with you, it's my current #1 gun to my head pick atm. It's so dang well-rounded. Haha, thanks! I had some disagreements on this one, actually, which I expected and I think adds depth to the conversations on multiple shoes. I want a channel where the community can go back and forth in a productive way on models versus always agree, you know?
Meh for CrossFit-specific work. It's a good shoe for a bit of everything, and they will work for CrossFit don't get me wrong - but when push comes to shove they fall short for rope climbs, and for $140 USD, you shouldn't have to worry about a shoe's durability when doing a low-volume activity within the realms of CF WODs. Plus, compared to the models here, they fall a bit short, IMO!
He was being very polite about Strike Mvmnt's return policy. It is truly horrible. I loved the look of the ones I got but they didn't fit. Tried to return them but no dice. Was told they didn't meet 'the criteria' to be returned so there went $150. Talk about a company that doesn't stand behind its product. If they fit you, awesome. If are one who has to return them and the return IS accepted, that's your sign to buy some lottery tickets!!
Yeah I got a pair and they didn’t fit. Had to send pictures proving they were never worn. Most ridiculous process. I chewed them out about it lol. If everyone keeps doing that hopefully they’ll change it. I also basically talked them into stocking size 12.5 bc 13 didn’t fit and 12s would def be small. They’re gonna release size 12.5 really soon.
@@kyled159 I’ve heard this exact story from other athletes as well. Haha, no way - that’s sick! I’ll start calling you in for some of my negotiations. I have a parking ticket I’m fighting atm, can you help 😅
It's not a great CrossFit-only shoe. IMO, if you're dropping $130+ on a pair of shoes you shouldn't have to worry about them breaking quickly due to rope climbs. I know rope climbs are a small portion of most folks' training, but when it comes to being well-rounded for this specific training niche, the Nano X2 is not in the same playing field as some of these more specific models!
@@thatfitfriend I paid $94 and just started CrossFit. I’m not strong so I won’t be climbing ropes any time soon. Do you think I made a mistake (my budget was $95) with purchasing the X2?

@@fikretpajalic1224 first off, there’s no hate towards that model, lol. Why say that? Did you even read what I wrote? 🤔 I like it, it’s a good versatile shoe that will suit a lot of lifter’s needs. I just don’t think it’s a great model from a pure CrossFit perspective. It’s included in my best cross training shoes round-up dropping next week. We can also agree to disagree here. It doesn’t really matter & I don’t expect everyone to agree with picks and reviews every time. That’s the nature of the beast and everyone having different experiences/perceptions of models.
Not this year. They work well don’t get me wrong, but $140 for a model that breaks quick on rope climbs isn’t ideal The X3 is looking much more promising
11/12 aren’t bad and they work for a lot of folks, but they’re not in my favorites this year. The X1 & X2 don’t deliver the best durability in the context of CF.
@@user-vl5bg8bk4c Not a bad idea! I can try to add it to the list. A bit swamped atm with vids because I do all of my own filming/editing, but I'll make a note in my Spreadsheet, amigo!
@@tracyzhou It's not that I don't like that model entirely - I feel like because I didn't include them here some athletes have taken that like I don't enjoy (or hate) them, lol. It's a fine model that works for multiple athletes, and I understand that! For context, I rotate the X2 and X2 Adventure fairly regularly for cross-training/outdoor sessions and they're included in my Best Cross-Training Shoes round-up that comes out soon. For the specificity of CrossFit, though, the Nano X1 and Nano X2 just haven't hit for me. For their price, they have "meh" durability for rope climbing, and when I compare them to older Nano models or some of the other CrossFit-focused shoes, they just don't do it for me. Again, not a bad shoe, by any means. And they'll for sure work for many athletes, so please don't take it like I'm putting them down - they're just not my go-to for CF and that's been consistent from 2021 (Nano X1) and this year, despite the X2 being a stronger model. I also think there's a reason Reebok doesn't market them as CF-only shoes anymore, too.
@@Deested haha, honestly…not too crazy knowing this niche 😅 Those are limited edition small batch models so I’m sure in a decade or more they’ll be worth a pretty penny. Assuming CF doesn’t implode by then 😂
I skate here and there! I would not use Vivos for it. You’ll shred through their uppers pretty quick even if you’re just doing ollies, plus, for their price - not worth tanking their durability!
In the context of formally competing, I don't compete! I've mulled the idea around, but tbh, it's impossible to review so many shoes and really train for something super specific. This is also why I haven't competed in powerlifting for a minute. That being said, right now - I'd say about 50% of my training is regularly including WODs or CrossFit-style training in the back half of my sessions and using some of their methodologies for conditioning and building my engine. I love that style of training, but I also love my powerbuilding work, so I try to blend the two on a weekly basis 🤝 PS - your comment got me thinking. Maybe I should do a full week of training in the future or something and include how I test shoes in there. What are your thoughts? Would this be interesting or meh?

I've had issues with the TYRs separating where the outsole meets the exposed foam. Love the shoe but I think they'll have dropped to bits within a year.
Yeah, I’m hoping they fix that issue. Mine broke at the midfoot with climbs. My metcons and Nanos also had a similar separation issue
R.A.D seen to have the answer with there design to incase the foam. Think I'll be trying those next after your great review
Metcon 8 all the way.
Not a bad model at all!
great recommendations/review! But...No love for UAs Tri Base Reign 4 :c ? Pretty underrated imo
Thank you 🤝
Ugh, this is the second comment they’ve been mentioned! I should have included them. I sat on them for a while, tbh. Could have been a good low drop option for some!
Is the innov8 still stable?
Yeah, they're solid shoes, imo!
Really great overview.
Thank you!
metcon 9 vs rebook v3 please!
Just filmed it 👀
Jake, lets do a deep dive into Rad similar to the one you did last year with GoRuck.
Can you review Flux?
Already have :) Check the channel!
How is the toe box in the nobull trainer+ vs the nano x2?
Similar! A tinnnnnnyyy bit less tapered in the Nano X2.
Inov-8s definitely the only shoe that has a semi decent design.
They’re a slept-on shoe, honestly
Hi Jake..... what about Under Armour ?
I should have added the TriBase Reign 4, honestly. Only model I regret not adding in here! It’s a solid shoe for some as well💪
What's the heel to toe drop on the TYR? I do like a taller heel on my trainers
9mm
you haven't included Reebok Nano X2 in this video..any reason?
Yeah, they need a good rework of that system on the backend, IMO. Makes no sense why it’s so difficult.
Sheesh hope to get one of this ❤
Definitely surprised you didn’t include the Nano X2
@@GLCEndeavors nah, you’re all good! It will work fine for your context. No regrets and I wouldn’t overthink it! All part of the learning process and they’ll serve you well, IMO. 🤝
@@thatfitfriend You're starting to lose the plot Jake. Why sudden hatred for X2?
@@fikretpajalic1224 first off, there’s no hate towards that model, lol. Why say that? Did you even read what I wrote? 🤔
I like it, it’s a good versatile shoe that will suit a lot of lifter’s needs. I just don’t think it’s a great model from a pure CrossFit perspective. It’s included in my best cross training shoes round-up dropping next week.
We can also agree to disagree here. It doesn’t really matter & I don’t expect everyone to agree with picks and reviews every time. That’s the nature of the beast and everyone having different experiences/perceptions of models.
v235 v3 lites FTW
Another solid model!
no nanos?
Not this year. They work well don’t get me wrong, but $140 for a model that breaks quick on rope climbs isn’t ideal
The X3 is looking much more promising
@@thatfitfriend Had no idea. I suppose I don't climb that much. Still rocking my nano X. cheers
what about the Reebok nano?
It’s fine! Didn’t make the cut this year, though, due to similar durability issues (non fixes) that the X1 experiences.
Metcon 8 please jake my friend 😅
reebok nano ?
11/12 aren’t bad and they work for a lot of folks, but they’re not in my favorites this year. The X1 & X2 don’t deliver the best durability in the context of CF.
UA Tribase 4
A good option, for sure!
What about adidas dropset?
Not a bad model at all - but not my go-to for CrossFit. Would rather rock the Dropset for cross-training/lifting!
@@thatfitfriend Would really appreciate a video comparing Adidas Dropset with Nike Metcon 8. I haven't seen a single video comparing both.
@@user-vl5bg8bk4c Not a bad idea! I can try to add it to the list. A bit swamped atm with vids because I do all of my own filming/editing, but I'll make a note in my Spreadsheet, amigo!
@@thatfitfriend Thank you!
You should re-do this video and include Nano X2 and UA Tribase Reign.
The TriBase reign 4 could have made it, I debated them for a bit! The Nano X2 is not making it this year.
@@thatfitfriend Why didn't you like Nano X2? I personally like X1 over X2, but thought I am the minority.
Mat fraser metcon 4’s
Such an OP shoe
Crazy story, I sold a pair on StockX for $525 back in 2019 😂
@@Deested haha, honestly…not too crazy knowing this niche 😅
Those are limited edition small batch models so I’m sure in a decade or more they’ll be worth a pretty penny. Assuming CF doesn’t implode by then 😂
@@thatfitfriend I still have 3 pairs in 10.5 and 3 pairs in 14, DS. Just in case you want to do a revisiting old shoe review 😂
Does anybody here skateboard, if so is it ok to skate in vivo barefoot shoes
I skate here and there! I would not use Vivos for it. You’ll shred through their uppers pretty quick even if you’re just doing ollies, plus, for their price - not worth tanking their durability!
@@thatfitfriend do you know any open toe box skate shoes
Jake are you a CrossFit guy? You never talk about it.
I love that style of training, but I also love my powerbuilding work, so I try to blend the two on a weekly basis 🤝
PS - your comment got me thinking. Maybe I should do a full week of training in the future or something and include how I test shoes in there. What are your thoughts? Would this be interesting or meh?
Def would make for a great video. I’m still waiting for that mobility video on how you achieved a perfect front rack. #elbowsup
@@joeykarpel4597 Dope! I'll try to put that together this fall. I'm bringing on a part-time videographer soon to help because it's tough doing everything on my own, so I think that will also help make this video more interesting/dynamic!
Haha, all you have to do is rupture both AC joints from college cheerleading and have some nice internal rotation from sitting on a computer too much, then boom - Elbows up! This would be a great video topic, too, though, on the real.
generally I am flexible but I found it’s a struggle to get that front rack mobility even after years of xfit. Plus most videos on the topic are overly simplistic and generally not that helpful.
@@joeykarpel4597 what seems to be your limiter? Or at least, do you have a guess?
I'm probably the only one, but I love my addidas dropset. I like them more than the nano and metcon.
That’s dope to hear you’re loving em’!
@@thatfitfriend I train crossfit mon through sat and go pretty hard. Two months with these shoes, holding up great, performing great, very comfortable. They are now my go to for crossfit workouts.
@@PlanBvideoservices I’m really curious what the 2 will be like!
Adidas could be onto something with the Dropset line 👀
‚eXpescially‘ and ‚option to explore‘
(summary of the clip).
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
You ok?
What is your favorite? 🤔
RAD ONE for climbs/WODs with more plyos.
TYR for lifting-focused sessions.
Haze for an "all-in-one" style shoe while traveling/etc.
Gun to my head favorite atm, probably the RAD ONE. It's so dang consistent.
Please do t promote Str/Ke Mv,not, their company is terrible. Support is lie talking to a brick wall. I’m out money as their system had an error, charged me and didn’t process the order. Support didn’t care one bit, said the shoe wasn’t available.
