I like the R8 chilling in the background. This is an awesome aftermarket upgrade. I'm glad that BMWs (except for new ones) are easy to change the oil on. This looks like a pain.
I already bought one got it last night going to install it tonight after work, oh shit got make sure my torque wrench calibration check has not expired,i hope ECS Tuning gets their precision tools calibrated!!!!!!
Personally after installing one of these I would just recommend getting a oem spare one for changes much more better, aluminum on plastic isn't real good, and the filter plug can be rounded very easily
Installed mine to the correct torque after having a new oil filter unit (my old plastic one was seized on and getting it off cracked the unit it screws onto). Started the car and it leaks from the rim of the housing. Nice one ECS, I'll be putting the OEM one straight back on! Not pleased at all!
Lay Sou There is a drain pan screw that is separate from the oil filter housing the one on the oil filter housing is just to pre-drain some oil out of the filter area in order to drain all of the oil out you need to unscrew the screw on the oil pan and drain it from there the drain screw on the filter is only to get rid of some of the oil out of the filter area but it is not intended to drain all of the oil out of the car otherwise you’ll miss a bunch of oil that will be stuck in the drain pan I hope you didn’t change your oil and only drain it from that source otherwise There’s a bunch of all the oil mixing with the new oil you put in it use the drain pan screw only
Ecs I order this housing which I love but I have a question my bypass broke during the install but fit perfect and has no movement is this suppose to happen? 2013 Vw beetle 2.5l
I have a very small leak from the filter housing area, on my daughters 2010 VW Beetle. (2.5L) I have already purchased and tried 2 of the cheaper Doorman brand housings, but still have the leak. So my next question is this: 1)---Do you think the more expensive one would take care of it, OR 2)---Do you think the leak is coming from above the filter housing and running down the housing? >>>>>Usually by now after having tried 2 new housings, i should probably assume it is coming from above it right? BUT The reason i still think it is the housing myself, is because when i bought the car it did not leak. It did not start until i changed the oil, which was right after i got the car. As i posted somewhere on here, the filter had not been changed in a long time because the filter was a cruddy sludgy mess! The leak is bad enough that i just had to add 1 qt after 4k miles, so i have got to stop this! I can't get a good enough look to see if oil is coming from above the filter. Just not enough room in there to see anything or get you hand in there w/o removing parts. But from what i can see, it does not seem to be? So, what do you guys think? Should i try one of these and go from there, or after trying 2 of the filter housings already, should i just take this thing to the shop and find out where it's coming from before i try this ECS housing? Thanks for reading, and any help here will be greatly appreciated!
[Yeah, I know.. this is an ancient video, but the info is still useful] So… the housing takes 18 ft/lb torque, and the drain plug takes 22 ft/lb. This means the housing will come off before the drain plug??
So now it’s engraved, the housing is 18 ft lb and the drain plug (for the cup aluminum housing) is 18 ft pounds as well… I tried the 22 ft lb and stripped… had to get a new one
LOL, good observation. Actually, look more carefully. They didn't change rims twice but for whatever reason they have one style of wheel on the driver side and a different style of wheel on the passenger side.
1. That's a centre tube, not a by-pass valve. The purpose of the centre tube is to support the cartridge filter and preventing it from collapsing/buckling. 2. Install the OFH drain plug and "O" ring. 3. Lubricate "O" ring with fresh oil 4. Prefill the OFH and filter cartridge assy with oil to prevent a dry startup.

Just installed mine!! It looks MAD!!!!!
What no oil cooler replacement part made of metal?

that sounds like a you problem
how about a video how to remove the piece from the plastic oil filter housing cap and install it on the new billet one from ecs. km refering to BMWs
Trying to attach the valve into the new housing is a PITA
Is there a DIY for the MK7 billet one?
My bypass valve snapped when I tried to install it... where do i get a replacement?
Same, i put it in as is but i rather replace it asap
I just broke my OEM housing trying to change the filter on my mk4 vr6 jetta do you make one for older cars?
Point of reference: you never told the viewers to add new oil (after draining the old oil).
Yes he did!
ignorance is dangerous
is it possible to ship to Kenya? Is there a replacement for the oil filter bracket as well on a 2005 mk5 Golf GT
That would go well with a stainless reusable filter element
Can you make a video of how to drain the oil with your new housing. You can't use that oil filter housing drain tool or can you?

I don't see this anywhere on the site
Is it true that these GTI`s waste more oil because of the turbocharge?
bro these cars fucking eat oil

4 years and no reply? Great customer relationship.👍👍

I lost my bypass valve insert.... having a hard time find a replacement. Can anyone please help me out?
Late response, but I'll go for it anyways. You have to actually find a new OEM housing. It's unfortunate, but true.

So the 22 ft-lbs was for the plug and not the billet housing? This shits confusing and why not engrave it to the aluminum housing?
are you guys just going to sell the drain plug to this kit as the mechanic has rounded off the plug, over tighten it.
rocktheroc Just use the screw on the oil pan to drain the oil
Didnt anyone notice that they changed the rims of the car two times when making the video :) ?
LOL, good observation. Actually, look more carefully. They didn't change rims twice but for whatever reason they have one style of wheel on the driver side and a different style of wheel on the passenger side.
cleanest oil change ever lol
We need some cow bell, bro. Can we get some cow bell? Thx
@ECSTuningMedia o, okay gotcha
Either that car has different wheels on both sides... or someones playing trickery

What sits at the bottom of the tube?
Rename your video. That’s not the housing. Maybe a cup or cover
actually, it's shame on vw that it does make plastic fking filter housing, which is easy to break
They sure do love making parts out of plastic instead of metal... cheap bastards.
