      @@juliecolon6081 no! I expected it would be because I have never cut my own hair before but I just went for it and it was actually so easy. I cut it initially and wanted the layers shorter so I went back and was able to regather everything to trim up again. You can do this!

    I did this cut for the second time tonight. It's pretty much fool proof and works so well on my 3a curls - which are sadly thinning with age. This evening I was about two steps away from making an appointment for a keratin treatment because I had it with my hair. I took a deep breath and remembered that usually when I feel like this, it's time for a haircut... and it's been a while since I had one (six months?). For those who haven't given this a go yet, take your time sectioning. Use a rat tail comb to help. Section, check with a handheld mirror, adjust, repeat, repeat again... and then cut. You won't be disappointed. This free-99 DIY cut is better than 90% of the curly specialty cuts I've had!

    Omg thank you for this! I'd been doing the unicorn cut since forever even though it gave me a slight case of triangle head. I always thought my hair was wavy - turns out it's not. After doing your cut, my hair boinged up from 2b to 3b/3c! I guess I needed more layers than the unicorn provides. This shape is much rounder and sproing-ier.
    Thanks again!

    Can’t find anyone to give my hair a really good curly cut so I’ve been cutting the front for myself. Needed my whole head done & tried this. This really worked well and I feel the ripples of curls in the back where I really needed it-it had felt flat & lifeless. This will be my go-to haircut from now on. Thank you love! ❤

My hair is 2B and very long, the biggest lenght (at the middle of the soft "V") goes down to my butt and this haircut still works really well, ends up looking like mermaid hair 🥰 glad to have found your tutorial so i can revisit it and check if i'm doing everything right next time, thank you!

    Oooohhhhhh -- I've been so excited for this video/blog post! Totally worth the wait (can't lie though -- your little teases about your hair were killing me! :) ) -- you did an amazing job with the editing and the blog post is perfectly detailed (but not overwhelming). Thank you so much! I found you 3-4 months ago and it was your DIY haircut post from a few years ago that inspired me to cut my hair for the very first time (something I never thought I had the skill to do). I loved your shorter cut so much that I ditched the doubts and said, "What the hell?!?!? I'm going to go for it!" I did it (no jack and coke necessary) and loved the result. I've had my hair cut by $$$ money pros and curly hair specialists but I'd never been truly blown away. Well, I was after doing it myself. I was thrilled. Now I'm going to try this cut. I have no doubt I'm going to love it. I absolutely love it on you! It's (and you) gorgeous! Thank you so much for all that you do. Thanks to you, I feel empowered to turn my curly locks into a masterpiece. Your tips, videos and blog posts have been wildly helpful. My hair has never looked better. Thank you!

I'm not sure if I'm going to go quite as short as I did then, but something in between this waterfall wolf cut and that other cut. I hope you love your results from following this DIY tutorial, and thanks for all the love on my blog post - my blog is still my biggest baby and I love pouring my passion into it. x

    I did it, I cut off over 25 cm! :D I wanted a big change!
    I have wavy, very thick and heavy (2B) hair, it was with outgrown layers down to my bum and over all it was just too much. The waterfall wolf cut turned out so cool! I had some problems to do the sections because I have to hold a mirror in my hand (I have to install something, so I have my hands free) but this looks like a pretty good haircut. Everything falls into everything!
    I had hairdressers done my hair, and it was not this nice a lot of times because they just could not or were not in the mood to handle my hair. Getting the layers correct and well proportioned is everything with thick, long hair. I totally love this!

    I am delighted with how this turned out for me. I have been doing the unicorn cut for a couple of years, but find that it makes the tope of my head flat and then the sides fluff out, ending in scraggly curls at the bottom. The waterfall cut gave me much more defined curls that are even over my whole head, and when I tie it up for work, I have enough wee curly bits around my face to soften it nicely.... Am definitely a convert to this hair cut!
    Thank you so much!

      I was worried because my hair is a lot longer than hers, but even though the layers don't go as high I think it'll still look good! I was afraid to chop off too much, I figure I can always go back later if I decide I want to try the face-framing layers she has.

  • @Aa-ll1sy

    I just did this cut on my wavy mostly 2b hair (with some 2c ringlets mixed in).
    I have minimum skill when it comes to hair cutting, like I cut my own bangs a few times in my life and that’s pretty much it.
    So I was terrified 😂 but it turned out absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤ I’m way happier with how this came out than when I go to a salon.
    I started with dry hair after wash day, I had just applied products, styled with my denman brush and let it air dry.
    I did not re-wet my hair, so I cut it dry, because wetting stretches my waves out and I felt it would be more natural if I cut my hair in its usual wave pattern when it’s dry.
    I did spray my hair with water when I got to the very last section of face framing layers, I guess that required some precision and wetting it just made it easier to be more precise.
    Also: the first time around I was too scared to cut off too much so I cut off a tiny bit at first to see if I liked how my hair would fall, loved it, and went back and re-sectioned my hair and cut off more “dramatic” pieces to really get that shape.
    My hair feels amazing and bouncy and fresh now. ❤ go raibh míle maith agat

    I did a cut like this during lockdown and it really turned out well. When I got to see my stylist (my roots were shocking) she told me it was a very good cut. I liked that I eliminated the triangle/wedge shape that was unappealing. My curls were a bit tighter, definitely lasted longer, and I used way less product after the cut. I've always found the hairdresser doesn't listen or doesn't understand and I end up with a flat cut basically, no waterfall effect.

    Absolutely beautiful results Gabriella I'm just scared to do this haircut because I'm afraid I'm going to have a mullet because when I do the unicorn cut I get a mullet that's why I've never done it ever since

    • @CurlMaven

      Hey Tina! This cut won't give you a mullet because of the way it's sectioned off, but if you don't want it too short around your face, tie each ponytail section a couple of inches further back from your hair line at your forehead. Hope that makes sense!

    looking forward to trying this - Unfortunately I just kind of randomly cut my hair in slight desperation haha .. Thank you! Great, clear instructions . Question - you were saying we could include bangs or shorter layers around face - Would we do this but in four even sections? Or split the last section into two or.. Thank you !

    • @CurlMaven
      @CurlMaven  8 месяцев назад

      The third section I take (the ones from the tip of the brow/temple) is the layer to create bangs and shorter layers around the face. If you don't want that, don't take that third section.

    How do you get it even with thick hair? I did it and even though i smoothed everything out its like the comb wouldnt even go through the ponytail all the way, kind of hard to know if all the hairs are where they are supposed to be. Now some bits are longer than others on the opposite side, luckily its not too noticable but on the front it is so I had to spend some time tweaking it. I have heard the ponytail cuts dont come out even so ill probably just redo it the more meticulous way.

    I've been cutting my hair for about 10 years using a creaclip. Last time I cut it I used did Curly Tay's version of a wolf cut but used my creaclip for the bottom layer. I want to try this cut now, but I'm wondering if it's necessary to do it wet? I've been cutting dry with great results.

    Quick question, what is the significance of cutting the hair parallel to the ground( elevated away from the face) when doing the unicorn portion of the cut? I’ve seen a lot of people cut their hair using the unicorn method but most do it by pulling the ponytail straight down in front of their face

    • @CurlMaven
      @CurlMaven  2 года назад +1

      it's moreso because it's a DIY haircut and you can see what you're doing by pulling it forward like that, rather than pulling it up and cutting what you see in the reflection in the mirror. Also, if your hair is really long, you may not be able to reach the ends if you pull it directly up.

    Tried this last night hoping it would work but I'm not sure it worked for me. I have a LOT of hair and a side parting and it sort of created a very heavy shelf at the front on the side where my hair parts, I must admit I have had this issue with pro cuts @ hairdressers but they usually then have to go in and spend quite some time thinning this section out or it does literally look like its been cut blunt horizontally across. Not a bad cut but don't think this will work for everyone 😫 x

    3:14 if you wanted more layers could you essentially cut another layer that is between the end of your chin and your jawline? 4:09 And one between your jawline and eyebrow? Would that look bad?

    • @CurlMaven
      @CurlMaven  8 месяцев назад

      I'm not quite sure what you mean. If you take too many sections to create layers, you'll end up with a very round shape instead of the long layered waterfall shape I'm creating with this cut

    • @CurlMaven
      @CurlMaven  8 месяцев назад +1

      you wouldn't be able to do the first cut if your hair is at the base of your neck. But you'd be able to do the second and third cuts to create shape and volume. I've had people with short hair and a similar length to what you're describing send me pics of their results and they've all looked amazing!

      correct, yes. If you don't want the shorter layers around the face or the baby bangs, only do the first and second cuts.

      it looks totally fine when straight, if you look at my website www.curlmaven.ie or my Instagram instagram.com/curlmaven you'll see it straight and it looks absolutely fine thanks to the blending of the layers. They're not choppy and chunky because we're not cutting it curl by curl

    I don’t know if you’re still monitoring this comment section…I’d love to try this, but I’m a bit confused. On the second and third layer you keep saying to hold the hair vertically, but it still looks like the same horizontal position you used in the first layer. Am I missing something?

    • @CurlMaven
      @CurlMaven  8 месяцев назад

      yeah so you're still holding the hair in between your index and middle finger, but when it's horizontal you're holding it with your fingers horizontally, and when you're holding in vertically, you're fingers are at a diagonal with your finger tips pointing away from you and upwards. I hope that helps explain it
