I get that sound even at 50% volume when playing 808 style bass drum sounds through them (under 50 Hz). I too find it very annoying but have learned to work around it, saving the low frequency stuff for my larger monitors. For everything above 50-60 Hz they work very well.
This is called port chuffing. Despite the name, these speakers are designed to be played at lower volumes for critical listening. Try using the high pass at 50hz and turning them down.
I'm replacing a pair of NS10MM with a pair of these. In my opinion this is a non-issue. Sure, this sounds terrible, but I'm sure this is played loud, and you can make any monitor sound like crap if you play it too loud. Get the right monitors for the job. This is a $300 set of 25W monitors.(!) Wanna play bass and bass drum loud? - Get suitable monitors for that! Play these at a level they can handle. You may think that they should be able to handle this, but note the very low bass drone underneath the bass drum. The bass drum and that drone makes for tremendous undertones when they're played together. (The drone may be part of the drum sound - you don't pause long enough for me to hear if it is.) There's a LOT of energy in play down there.
I know from owning these monitors that just about everything below 50 Hz causes this odd sound even at 50% volume. It’s not an issue for me because I simply use other monitors or studio headphones when the very, very low frequencies need to be heard.
@@noelsharp Thanks for sharing your experience with it. I'll make sure to be able to return the set if it works the same for me. I'm currently considering a pair of Genelec X010 or X020 instead. I have a pair of 1037 as my mains so I would like something other than Genelecs to check mixes on something based on other principals, but I really don't need anything powerful, so the iLouds would be very fine.
Yeah but that speaker at that price and at that size with that big of a sound is a feat of engineering. The bass and fullness that's coming out of that thing should not be, per physics.
I brought these a few days ago in Hong Kong, get this disappointing irritating problem exactly the same, this defect is unacceptable. This weird noise generated with the bass whenever sort of 808 style kick drums sound are being played, where my Yamaha HS50M does not have this.
That sounds like a resonance from something else. Does it still do it if you pick them up? I've had similar things with having a glass in a certain place in the room vibrating making an annoying noise.
I had exactly the same problem.....to all the people saying don't play them loud, my pair did this at moderate volume. I'm not sure how can you live with this. Massive no no on my mind... Massive potential in these speakers, but ultimately they are terrible.
I mean, these speakers aren’t meant for low bass frequencies at all… they are amazing speakers, but I guess people don’t read and research what they are designed for.
if you shove a piece of foam into the bass port it stops it, but I don't know if that's good for the speaker. It only makes this noise in certain low's frequencies, so I just live with it...

I have recorded and mixed rock & pop on these micros for years and have never heard that distortion.
Tbh that’s pretty impressive for them to produce that low
that distortion noise is normal. 1st I would have them that loud as I would use for a nearfield reference monitor
As u said it yourself, thats just port noise. Thats only happening somewhere at the resonant frequency (40hz or some)

I'm suffering the same problem, get your groove on and tune them up to listen to your beat and they start making this same noise!
me too, do you have find a solution?

HAD MINE 2 YEARS AND THEY WORK JUST FINE
What did you do to them. They are to never sound like that. I use them after hrs when everyone in the house is asleep

Pasa cuando los usas siempre a volúmenes altos y tratas de exprimir los bajos, lo dañas

Same issue for sounds around 55-65hz, ended up sending mine back.
Just got mine, exact same thing. I'm returning it , immediately.
Apparently, if you stick a piece of foam in the port holes, it’ll stop. The speakers are great, but poorly built at that port area.
Yep same thing I experienced. These monitors struggles with some sub bass notes/frequencies.
@HAYDENMUSICTV no shit they are tiny speakers
Of course they won't handle bass for your sick beats
I mean, these speakers aren’t meant for low bass frequencies at all… they are amazing speakers, but I guess people don’t read and research what they are designed for.
The base sounds good
Yeah. If distorted is good
still you can put inside little cloth, and it will disappear😊
But you might lose some low frequencies
Have the same Problem, i will send it back and buy the mtm from ik Multimedia
now I am for sure NOT buying these. going to save for the Iloud MTMs. That's terrible lol
It only makes this noise in certain low frequencies, so I just live with it... for the size and sound, these are pretty incredible
The MTMs do the same thing
@@devynkeyreally?! I wanted to buy mtm’s
Same issue here mostly main speaker
me too, do you have find a solution?
Do you have a fix for this ?

I have them and they don't sound like this. Its all the crap on your desk or yours are broken.
